You may probably know that the Bard refers to William Shakespeare, who is one of the greatest writers in the English language. So, today, we're embarking on a journey through dusty manuscripts, forgotten folios, and the elusive shadow of this playwright extraordinaire. This is the story of "Shakespeare's Lost Play." Listeners, let us transport you back to 1953. A man named Solomon Pottesman, affectionately known in literary circles as "Inky," unwrapped what he assumed was an ordinary manuscript. Inside "Certaine sermons," published long ago in 1637, lay two tattered leaves-a casual inventory from an Elizabethan stationery shop. Amongst the list, two titles stood out like a beacon: "Love's labour's lost [and] Love's labour's won." The first is a title familiar to anyone with a passing acquaintance with the Bard. But the latter? That's where our mystery unfolds. Not a single scholar or thespian can claim to have laid eyes on it. Yes, "Love's Labour's Won" is a spectral specter, a work shrouded in the enigmatic fog of history. Flash back to 1616. Shakespeare, in supposedly perfect health, signs his last will, leaving the world a mere month later. If not for the foresight of his two theatrical comrades, John Heminge and Henry Condell, Hamlet might well have whispered his last to the ether unremembered, and Macbeth's ambition could've been dust and shadow. It took an actor's heart and Heminge and Condell's diligent collation to preserve the Stratford maestro's legacy in the celebrated First Folio. Fast forward to Solomon Pottesman's epiphany, and the 1950s rumination on those indelible ink squiggles give rise to the most tantalizing of questions: Was "Love's Labour's Won" simply another name for a known play, or has the world truly lost a Shakespeare original? In Sweden, 1904, a fortuitous rediscovery of "Titus Andronicus" shattered the belief in its everlasting loss-a beacon of possibility that "Love's Labour's Won" might one day echo through the halls of discovery. After the rollercoaster of Covid-19 lockdowns, guess what? 2022 hit back as the year of marriages! Statistics revealed by the American CDC's National Center for Health Statistics are in, and they're showing us a fascinating picture. You see, before the pandemic, marriage rates were pretty consistent-hovering around 7 to 8 marriages per 1,000 humans every year. But as the pandemic roared in 2020, the number took a nosedive to just about 5.1 per 1,000. But as we crawled out of our lockdowns, love was officially back on the rise! The figures for 2022 clocked in at 6.2 per capita, totaling over two million marriages. Talk about a love renaissance! Now, why is this happening? Marissa Nelson, a marriage therapist out of DC, shared some thoughts. She believes that those lockdown love tests-the ones where you're spending quite a lot of time together-they weren't just about surviving each other's quirks but intentional deep dives into what really matters.
