Why is it that buskers, most of whom have the talent, don't take their music inside and seek to book themselves in clubs and bars? If you've already proven to yourself that you can perform in front of people, take the next step. Research the venues that offer live music in your area. Visit them and listen to the performers who are getting booked. Pay attention to what they do well and what they need improvement on. Learn from them and apply that knowledge to your own performance. Work up enough songs to fill the time allotted for shows in these venues. Add 3 to 6 extra songs for encores or spares. Prepare a 60 second cellphone video of yourself busking that consists of snippets of your best songs. Dress neatly and visit the venues you're interested in performing at. Introduce yourself and express your interest in performing there. Be prompt and to the point. Don't waste their valuable time. If they say they're booked up right now, ask if you may text or email your demo video to them for consideration as a fill in in the event of a cancellation. If they say yes, also send your name and contact information as well. Cancellations happen fairly often. Be prepared to respond on short notice. If they call and you get them out of a tight spot with a great show, you WILL get booked there for the next cycle. If you love busking, by all means, enjoy yourself. But if you need reliable pay and a break from changing weather, come inside and start gigging.
