We had a successful rescue at our office and Dr. Mary was the victim, Jamesine performed the rescue! Jamesine's American Red Cross training came through as she knew exactly what to do. We are very proud of her and grateful she acted on her training. American Red Cross are the purveyors of hope.

    How come you guys use liners while other guys just pack the soil.? Is one a better option than the other?

    • @cchrysler10
      @cchrysler10 6 років тому

      Joseph Battaglia that depends on what you want a pond for and what kind,of soil you have, how deep, how big

    Awesome ponds.. Just curious, I think you said the sides of the upper pond were too sloped so you redid the walls with concrete blocks.. Was that more of an aesthetics choice or were you worried about the walls caving in? I'm building a 25 x 30 x 3.5 ft pond and am wondering what slope to use for the walls

    • @cchrysler10
      @cchrysler10 8 років тому

      Brian Z The walls were sloped so much it would make retaining plants difficult not to mention getting in and out of the pond for maintenance.

    To be honest I am not sure, the excavation was only part of a bigger project on the property. The liner cost $ 1900.00 (50' X 150'), the well around $ 1500.00, pump and plumbing around $ 1000.00, not including the gazebo I would guess around $ 6000.00 total. I did all but the excavation myself, the stones were from my property, I had the sand trucked in from a near by gravel pit.

    The best time to evaluate a pond is 10 or more years after they are built to see how they will last. Most ponds will look fine for a couple years before they go bad. Why 10 years? That is the usual time people will deal with an issue before they call us. What usually happens? Cheap plastic liners crack and leak ( usually about 15 years later) Pond starts choking out with weeds about 10 years after building.

  • @cchrysler10
    @cchrysler10 8 років тому

    Scott we have very sandy/small stones soil, plus clay lining has a tendency to get mucky overtime. The liner with sand over it is much better for swimmers.

    • @BeautifuLakesStreamsBiologists
      @BeautifuLakesStreamsBiologists 8 років тому

      We seal ponds and lakes with clay every day. They remain clear for many decades. It can be done.

    looks fantastic, I'm curious though. Why did you use a liner for the big pond and not just pack with clay earth? here where I'm from our ponds are just packed with clay. seems costly for that much pvc liner

      It has been died to help reduce alge build up. Also added to the water is beneficial bacterial to fight alge growth and a bubbler keeps water from the bottom moving up the water column. Alge build up is a continuous battle for outdoor ponds.

    The most amazing idea EVER! I wonder how this would work out in Florida? I'm in the TB area and feel that we might get an overabundance of algae and moss. All the local retention ponds around here turn into swamps within a few years. I'd probably have to manually keep the biology in check.

    He obviously didn't do any research before going all Gung Ho putting a hole in the ground. This was one Balls up after another. And it pays to line your dirt hole with old carpet, or if you have the money Geo Fabric. That things probably already leaking. LMAO Classic case of to much money and not enough brains.

      +Sphinx Hutc Calm the fuck down sweet heart. dont get your nose all out of joint. i re watched the video and laughed my way through three quarters of it. this guy really made a lot of basic mistakes that will dramatically shorten the life of the pond. But hey who gives a shit he will just have to do it again wont he. Personally id be embarrassed to put my mistakes out there for all to see. But hey no disrespect meant to anyone i just call it how it is if you dont like it i really dont give a shit. Suck it, Im an arsehole.

      Ram2 is right lol, and plus these ponds all end up turning into real ponds, I wouldnt advise puting all those rocks at the end that is a perfect habitat for snakes too lol

    I love you guys. I have been following this build for a few years I think and I love that you decided to use plants now for natural filtering. but there are nowhere near enough that I can see there. Also, I don't think it was UBER necessary to color the water. I mean, I am pretty sure it was colored, from the looks of it spilling out one of the pipes. I get it, you don't want a cloudy-brown pond of sediment. Idk It would have been good w/o that too.
