    Nice video! I've owned my 57 C1 Corvette for 51 years. Purchased in 1972. It's a best of show car that I drive to and from shows and cruses in my area. I'm the 3rd owner. Engine numbers matching with a 1960 transmission. This past winter I decided to do a little engine bay clean up. I jacked the front end up and the clean-up started. I wanted to paint and install a dated generator tag which turned into removing and rebuilding the generator, replacing the (50 year old) voltage regulator, and the clean-up project grew. Making new wire harnesses with the original tar covered cloth loom. Cleaning and soldering electrical connectors. Then I noticed green fluid around the starter area (anti-freeze). After more engine cleaning and inspections, I saw the fluid was coming from the water pump mounting area on the right passenger side. It was traveling along the edge of the oil pan gasket to the rear of the engine. I found a rebuilt (original) water pump (1957 Flint Michigan) from Corvette Central, $259.00. Back in the 70's I worked the counter at a parts store in Camden N j (Rem Auto). When my original pump went bad, I gave it up to the rebuilder as a core (a $2.00 value) and installed the same as you have. A later mode with the by-pass on top. Big Mistake. I don't throw anything away now. I'll be doing the same as you by supporting the engine under the oil pan. I like to add a layer of foam pad at the face of the oil pan for a little added protection. And of course, since the starter is out Why Not paint it. After rebuilding it! Gotta Love these old cars. All it has done for the years I've owned it, is give me pleasure. Again, Thanks for the video

    @Yavuz, Found some time to watch your entire video. Originally my interest was monitoring. You did lots of things. Very good! How’s your generator operating with your NG conversion? I’m getting Firman T07571 Tri-Fuel (Gas/LP/NG), but will run on NG only. Generator output wattage (start/running) on Firman reduced by 27% when using NG mode. Have you determined your Champion’s reduced output with NG conversion kit?

    Thanks very much for the excellent video!!! I have worked on many Chevy and Ford classic cars over the years and I never would've known that the motor was supported from the top! I too would've dropped the engine without supporting it!!! there are definitely very few videos for the C1 Corvettes. I used your video and reviewed it multiple times during the process. Haven't put the coolant in yet, but fingers crossed everything is good as I used your suggestion of the 3/8 inch threaded rod to align everything before torquing. The only thing I am looking for now is the torque value for the motor mounts themselves. Sincere thanks for the video again!

    • @yavuzc
      @yavuzc 2 роки тому

      Thank you Stephen for your time to watch and comment, and good luck. I do not know the torque for the motor mount but you should tighten them pretty well, but not strong enough to crush and burst the rubbers. We did not use the torque wrench as often in other parts of the world :)

    First: Great video and thanks for sharing. I've got the same generator and want to convert to NG. I've watched a 'lot' of videos on the topic but not one of them shows how well the generator performs under load 'after' converting it to NG. I really hope you'll consider doing so. My gut feeling is that there will be drastic drop in performance and that's why nobody has made such a video. I'd love to hear what have to say on that.

    • @yavuzc
      @yavuzc 2 роки тому

      Thank you. I do not think that there would drastic drop as NG is not much less efficient than gasoline (LPG is though). Even if it was, NG is my emergency backup in case I cannot find gasoline. Also my generator was in break-in period, hence I did not load. Such test requires that you load it well and balanced and then also measure it. I do not have a lab for that.

    Thank you for the video. I have ordered the generator and will order the same conversion kit very soon. I am concerned about the wattage the generator will produce on natural gas. A spokesman for Champion wrote that the generator will not run on natural gas . What has been your experience with regard to how well it runs and the wattage it produces? Can I expect 5000 watts on natural gas?

    • @yavuzc
      @yavuzc 2 роки тому

      I think they cannot officially confirm the conversion because of EPA regulations. I do not have experience or data to compare the wattage as I never ran it in full capacity but I think natural gas isn't as low BTU as propane is. May require some research but energy of gasoline and natural gas may be close to each other.

    Love this video. Thanks for the post. The basics of the replacement are all there. Great idea, using the threaded rods to hold things in place. Clean that mount, clean the block. Use sealant on the bolts. Use a good gasket sealer. Be safe, this is dangerous. Keep hands away, from where a falling engine could land on them. Guessing, I did not have blocks correctly under oil pan. Had major coolant leak between mount and block on passenger side on my '58 Corvette. Is surprising that the engine stayed in place, with just one very loose water pump bolt. Bolt was finger tight and, almost all the way out. By hand, was able to turn and remove the last bolt from from the water pump. Engine did not drop until, the water pump was at least an inch from the block. Then, all hell broke out. Created a lot of panic energy. Book says to support engine with a cherry picker. If using this method ( I saw this video, after my fiasco ), be sure blocks are in correct place, with zero space between pan and blocks. We used rail way ties and 2x6 pressure treated wood. yes, we had zero space. Thanks again for the video.
