My Narrowboat Life
United Kingdom
Приєднався 10 жов 2020
This Channel began with the idea of sharing the day to day activities of Living on a Narrowboat. It is not by any means an instructional video, and just aims to show transparent view of the highs and lows of this way of Life. Since its inception the scope of the channel has now broadened to include other adventures I may find myself embarking on. All Questions are welcome.. Trolls are not!

BUILD A NARROWBOAT WITH ZERO DIY EXPERIENCE
Great boat with real character, just need The Misson, Cure on the decks, lol, super cool
Thanks so much! I’m really proud of what I achieved. I actually prefer ‘Lucretia’ by Sisters of Mercy at max volume!!
Hey Bones, I'm still enjoying your videos. Will we get to see more from you in the new year?
Most definitely! I’m working on another long form video for the final but of my journey to Bristol which should be ready soon
Stunning.
Thank you so much ❤
hi mate interesting blog .I would like to take the opportunity to wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year. let's hope that next year is better than the present one.
Thank you, and Merry Christmas to you as well. Let hope 2025 is better for us all
Lovely shot of the grey heron 😊
@@lanodramallama Thanks! I was lucky to catch it
Fair play to ya Be safe on them waters
@@horsetowater Thanks I’ll do my best! Has the heavy rain affected you at all?
@mynarrowboatlife thanks yes a little up here in Highland not too bad. Stay safe
At least you know your house wont flood
That is very true, its kinda designed to float ;) Do you suffer with flooding near your house then?
@mynarrowboatlife people in the area do but were on a hill
@ I glad you are free from flooding either way
I think you’re doing things the right way by making videos when you feel there is something to film and not feeling pressured into turning them out every week. 👍🏻
Thank you for recognising that! There is a lot of pressure to keep churning out as many videos as possible
I’ve enjoyed catching up with your videos Bones, this one in particular. I know Skye as my spiritual home and I’ve never really been a very spiritual person, but i really connected with what you said about the space and the peace, i feel an enormous sense of wellbeing whenever I’m there. Great video… and music as always.
I’m so grateful you have spent some time watching my videos. I try to make them have a different feel from usual content on this platform. Where is your favourite place to visit on Skye?
The second time I visited the highlands I took a tent (and a short Italian girlfriend). I was drawn to the mountains, so we camped at Glen Brittle beneath the cuillins. I dragged her up to the coire Lagan before it had chance to go dark. It was late in the season, we were shrouded in cloud, the wind was cold, and it was the only sound apart from the odd rock fall echoing off the walls of the mountain. I stood by the crystal clear lachan and as I looked out there would come small windows in the cloud where I could see the campsite below and the shore of loch Brittle. Just f****** magical! I’ve been back a number of times and stood on the summits, I can’t wait to share it with my daughter in the future.
@@jameshornsby886oh wow! That sounds amazing. Skye has a way of creating those very special moments of absolute awe and majesty. I’m looking forward to returning myself. You should document it yourself next time
Great vlog bro,,, good to see ya looking content and happy 👍
Thanks dude, I have come along way this last year and not just in miles
@ I run a business in Pewsey, when ya next there give me a shout, The barbers room (Rich)
Will do dude! Thanks for your support of the channel
Loved the video but I was disappointed you left out one of the most beautiful locations on Skye, I mean the village of Elgol and the Cuillin Mountains, which they call God's Own Paradise which he build for resting on, on the seventh day, It is a wonderful place where up until a few years ago, people did not lock their cars n houses if they were away for the day but with the change and the incomers to the village it has necessatated a change nowadays n most folk not lock their cars n houses at night... I do hope you will visit again n do more investigating into the beauty of the south of the Island..👍👍🏴🏴
Thank you for such an in depth comment. Alas we couldn’t visit all the wonderful places on Skye as we were only there a few days. But I definitely intend to visit again soon
If i like a place then i will stay . Just like all the old boats on the rivers and locks.
Have you ever had any trouble from CRT?
Awesome bud, some vanlifers carry a small monkey bike to get about could be interesting getting it on and off tho👍
Monkey bike? Sounds interesting
Excellent viewing very interesting 👍
@@thevikingcraftsman Thanks dude, hope the camper van business is treating you well!
it's always nice to see you fella..as for a new boat. it would definitely be a sail away. every time.. I have owned both.but have found that a pre owned boat has never felt like home. anyway this is only my opinion. anyway fella as always keep yourself safe and well mate
@@wayneharris7534 I agree! Now I have built my own boat (and been able to shape it to my preferences) I can’t imagine living in what was someone else’s idea of a narrowboat
I love the style of your boat, was it something in mind when you started your build or did it develop over the course of descisions made?
@@olivellanarrowboat4319 would you mind if I use this question for a Q&A reel?
@ thats fine by me 👍
@@olivellanarrowboat4319Thank you so much
@@mynarrowboatlife no worries, it’s something I’m thinking about with my own build. So far I have just been going with what I can find that’s within budget, luckily it’s tying together, somewhat. But Yh, I think your setup is one of the most unique I’ve seen, can’t wait to hear your thoughts on how it came together
Hello! Your boat sounds so quiet. Is it electric?
@@valyd45 Alas no, it is a relatively new engine though. I would love an electric engine one day when they are cheaper perhaps
As mentioned this video is an honest breakdown including things I would change if I was to do it all again. Perfect for anyone considering doing it themselves Follow this link: ua-cam.com/video/UMQCGqRefCo/v-deo.html
Was that Kelston Roundhill towards the end? Nice.
I went through Kelston yeah! Do you live there?
@mynarrowboatlife I work near there, the other side from the river. The little cluster of trees on the hill at Kelston is visible from all round - Kelston Roundhill. 🙂
@vivviedarling9336 It is a lovely spot!
@mynarrowboatlife looks beautiful How far does the law say you have to move?
@AndewLLL The Canal and River Trust says 20 miles of ‘bona-fide’ nablvigation
Hi I’m Pauline and I’ve just found your channel, I’m working my way through your vlogs. I want a narrowboat but I’m in Australia so out of the question, we’ve had a few holidays on canal boats in the UK and absolutely fell in love with it, it’s just a dream now sadly for lots of reasons, age being the big factor and $6000AUS to get our dogs over there. Loving your vlogs and your music. Ten locks and a swing bridge is a huge day for a solo boater, the staircase is going to be worse so sleep tight to ready yourself for that. I think the whole purpose of narrowboat life is to slow down, take your time, enjoy the scenery and the sounds of the wild life and the water. Loving your narrowboat even though a bit unconventional it’s still very cool. OK I’ll go back to the vlog and keep watching, they’re not all coming up in order but that’s fine. Stay safe and I’ll see you again soon. 🥰 PS You’re in the UK, that’s your weather and it’s why your country is so green (mostly) and beautiful, sure it can be a pain but it can also be relax time.
Thanks for the interest in my channel, glad to hear you are making your way through my vlogs and enjoying them from Australia! I’m actually in Bristol now and just working on the the vlog for the final 3rd part of my journey here. Let me know what you think of the other videos as you watch them 🎉
@. I’ve been enjoying them, I’ve been liking them as I go along. Thanks heaps and see you soon.
I appreciate the support 🙂thank you!
How to relax yourself in five 👌
Indeed! Not a bad way at all
Beautiful atmospheric music
Thank you so much, I plan to share more of my musical collaborations with Sarah. So keep an eye out. In the meantime she crops up quite a bit in my previous blogs if you fancy a taste of what is to come 😊
I admire your honesty & integrity. Thank you. A few ideas: 1. The skill that you showed with "building" your boat at the beginning could be further used, by means of "designing / developing" the interior on new builds etc. 2. The skill and ability of your musical talent (narrowboat roadshow ??) as an expression of your "life", as the same way as poets express their own thoughts - so to speak. 3. Treen: your love of wood could be used with the "offcuts" that you find and not just for fuel use, but for (again) designing / making / sculpting, and so by, could possibly be an extra source of income (plus very bespoke / unique ). Sometimes, the skills that we think we do not have are just there, waiting to be unboxed and used / and again the opposite; sadly the skills that we think we know when not used continually are left by the wayside. Thank you once again.
Firstly thank you so much for taking the time to write such an in depth set of suggestions. It was very kind of you and I’m very grateful to have such caring people comment on my videos. Thankfully I have managed to turn my life around since making this vlog over a year ago. I have moved my boat to Bristol and begun a new Life as a Tree Surgeon and I’m in a new loving relationship. My music is still as important as ever and I have slowly built myself back up ❤
@@mynarrowboatlife Thank you for such a prompt reply. Sometimes a 'door closes", only for another to "open". :) With hindsight (ref: costs - from that question about "price), would you advise your younger self the same strategy or perhaps purchase an already "lived-in" narrowboat, therefore saving additional costs / purchases ? P.S grow the moustache again :)
@@barringtonofmorpethThat is a great question! Would you mind if I used it for a Q&A video? (Moustache is back btw)
Very atmospheric!
Thank you! Sarah is superb at creating beautiful soundscapes that draw you in ❤
That was beautiful! Lovely instrument too
Thank you very much! It’s a Banjola and has such an ethereal sound to it. The perfect compliment to Sarah’s voice
So nice to see you back again! 😊 Looking forward to following you on your adventures. 😘🌻
Thanks for the support, how long have you been following my channel?
The last couple of years. But, for some reason I’ve not been getting notifications about your new vids. 🤷🏻♀️ Last one I watched was when you were on the Isle of Skye. 😘🌻
I think you need to click the ‘bell’ icon to get notifications

this was great
Thank you so much! The slow pace of my videos isn’t for everyone. So I’m glad you like it
Been way too long. Hope you’re well.
I am indeed well, did you check out the full vlog?
And.. at last a refreshing vid full of timeless energy , great shots and apt tunes! Absolute joy to watch and look forward to your next episode as you journey to Bristol continues 😊
Glad you enjoyed it! I do try to make videos that I would want to watch, that have a distinct style
Congrats on your venture and getting it done. It’s nice seeing you in the warm season. Glad you will be traveling and making new videos. I hope you have an easy time as winter sets in. 👋🏼😎
Thanks, it was fun travelling in the summer, but autumn is definitely here now. I have another video in the making right now
Great vid bro as always, your style is timeless, where everyone is just walking around towns, saying 'hey look another high street is fucked' This content is so refreshing, and its clearly evident that you were making video's a long time before YT or 'Vloging was even a thing. Love the 'locked on' reference. Also is that the same red backpack, that you did the megawalks (England and Aus) with?
Thanks bro it’s nice you recognise my style, it’s been a long time in the making. That is indeed the same back pack for the mega walks!
Nice one, enjoy.
@@mikehurley5052 thanks! I’m doing my very best to enjoy the whole experience regardless of what happens. I hope that comes across in the video
Looks like hard work on your own. Very relaxing to watch though
@@red9zero it can be tough at times, but I am getting used to it. Hopefully the videos shows me improving!
I'm glad to see that you are safe and well mate. as for living on a narrow boat you will find that it will definitely become easier as time goes by.. anyone who says that they didn't find it hard when they decided to live on a narrow boat .you will find a distinct smell of b. .. s ... in surrounding air. anyway keep yourself safe and well mate

There are quite a few videos on my channel discussing the different aspects of narrowboating. Especially check out the Q&A videos
A very different interpretation of narrow boat decoration to my way of thinking but as a project it seems to be successful and good luck with its use
It’s definitely not traditional!
