    I normally use other Daws like Reaper, Harrison Mixbus or Renoise, trying new programs i like the look of the waveforms and the rounded slots from the midi editor on Mixcraft, i think the software is really great organized, intuitive and that's great. You can show us all the features of the midi editor, how to create and edit fast midi drums? I found the Omni sampler useful since it has a lot of pads that you can load but think they need another sampler to slice some drum loops like Simpler from Ableton.

      Thanks so much for your comment! Currently, I am working on a tutorial all about crafting midi drums that is going to be out soon. It will cover how to actually take drum sheet music and an easy way to translate it into the midi player so that you can use any genre of music. I see a lot of drum programs out there with some great grooves, but I realized that so many of us want other stuff like Latin beats or whatnot. So, since I am able to read drum sheet music, I figured out a way to easily input the beats into the midi editor in Mixcraft. Glad you also found Mixcraft to be intuitive. I love how it is easy to just jump in and start recording. Again, thanks for your wonderful comment!

    Loopcloud is a good example of a service that is overpriced. Mediocre samples/loops that not many people benefit from. There are significantly better alternatives that de facto have very good sound quality. Loopcloud is one such service that is up for a year and then fades away as customers find better alternatives.

    hi I would like to send a Mixcraft track to Ableton live 12 standard. How can I do it? Thanks

    • @commontimeproductions
      @commontimeproductions Місяць тому

      You would need to export all the tracks in your session as stems and then import them into Ableton. Hope that helps!

  • @LezMarwick
    @LezMarwick Місяць тому

    I wish you'd demoed removing one of the stems as well, rather than just soloing them all. Removing vocals for instance would have shown if it would work well for karaoke.

    • @commontimeproductions
      @commontimeproductions Місяць тому

      During my testing I had actually tried that with an old song my band recorded. It ended up removing a huge frequency band section where the vocals were, and the song sounded thin afterwards so I didn't think that it was ready for that type of clarity. It is not something like Izotope's RX11, where it will literally remove only the vocals. I hadn't thought of using it that way for karaoke specifically, but I have used a website called karaoke-version that has a whole bunch of karaoke songs that even include lyric videos along with the tracks. Plus, they have this custom backing track versions where you can select what instruments you want or don't want for the song. They even let you download separate stems so that you can pull them into your daw and work with them that way as well. Thanks so much for your comment, in the future maybe I will just leave all of it in like that in editing so that you guys can see the real raw takeaway for stuff like this.

      @@commontimeproductions Thanks for the info. I'm still on Mixcraft 9 but will be upgrading very soon. I was thinking of trying to repair some of my old songs with 'even worse than usual' vocals due to having a cold when I recorded them, but it sounds like the best thing will be to redo them from scratch... or wait a few more years for better AI.

    • @commontimeproductions
      @commontimeproductions Місяць тому

      @@LezMarwick We have been using Mixcraft since version 6, and I would have to say that 10 is by far the most stable and has lots of great quality of life features that I am super glad to have now. As for the vocals, have you checked out "Revocalize"? That ai tool allows you to upload your vocals and then use ai to enhance them. I also found "voice.ai" and see that they have a free stem separation tool you could try as well for the old songs. Also, if you still have the songs with the stems separated in an older version of Mixcraft, you could always try using Melodyne on the vocals to clean them up and adjust the bits that sound off. There are so many new things out there with ai and music stuff now, check out Matt Wolfs UA-cam channel, his website "Future Tools" has a catalog of a slew of the current and upcoming ai tech and tools that are mostly free to check out or just the super cheap cost of the api. Hope that this helps, I love this stuff and am excited to see all the new tools for music. You rock!

      Melodyne will definitely detect the bpm of a track in Mixcraft. You just need to open Melodyne at the bottom of the daw in the sound panel. Next to the detected key at the upper right of the Melodyne panel there is a detected bpm as well. You can confirm what the bpm is for the track or assign one here as well. Hope that this helps!

    Do you use other DAWS with or instead of Mixcraft? I personally haven't found a need another, which includes Protools.

    • @commontimeproductions
      @commontimeproductions 3 місяці тому

      When I first started using Mixcraft, they were on version 6 back in 2014 and up until Mixcraft 9, it was the only DAW that we had been using. The last 4 years however, we started getting more mixing work that required a DAW like ProTools because of the advanced routing options and the ability to do fine adjustments for phase alignment. Also, as of this last December, I added Melodyne Studio version as well to my process. One of the great things I love about Mixcraft is that you don't need to be connected to the internet to use it. A DAW like ProTools or the plugins like Waves VST's requires the internet to operate when you first boot it up that day. This last December we recorded a full band out in the field using Mixcraft (due to no internet), and then did all of our mix prep and track cleanup in Mixcraft. Then I sent all the stems over to Melodyne for its ability to do multi-track editing at the same time (which is essential for time aligning a drummer that can't play to a metronome). After getting all the tuning and timing done in Melodyne, I then sent everything over to ProTools for the fine detail stuff like phase alignment and fun tricks like the kick compressor trick I show in the video. That whole process is actually a course that I am working out to show, because in the current tech age, it is important to know that sometimes when recording and mixing professionally it is essential that we are versed in multiple DAWS's and music software. Thanks so much for asking this question! I would love to hear how you have been using Mixcraft solely and what your experience has been? Have you found anything that you have had to find a work-around for yet? My first stumbling block was finding that I could not super zoom in on the tracks for fine detail with phase alignment.

    Hi. Do you know😮 why my music sounds great in mixcraft. But when I mixdown to MP3. It's doesn't sound the same .

    • @commontimeproductions
      @commontimeproductions 3 місяці тому

      The first things I would check is with the exporting options for MP3 in Mixcraft. When you press the option to mix down to MP3, you will see a button down at the bottom of the window that popped up called "Edit Details". When you click that button, there are some other options that you can try to make the MP3's sound better on export. Personally, the only time I have run into issues that are audibly noticeable have been when my bit rate was set too low. Try mixing a version down with the bit rate maxed out to 320 kbps and see if that fixes what you are hearing. The other thing you could try is mixing a high-quality WAV down first, of the whole song with no master track effects enabled or mastering stuff. Set the mix down to WAV option at something like 48,000 Hz 24 Bits. Then bring the high-quality WAV into a fresh Mixcraft session and then apply mastering and any mastering automation that you need in that session. Lastly, bounce down another MP3 (try the higher bit rate again) from the mastering session and see if you are still dealing with the audio degradation with that process as well. There are other possible problems like phase and other things going on that could be the issue as well. Let me know if the above helps or if there are some other details of what you are hearing going on. Thanks for commenting a great question!

    • @sr-vw2pm
      @sr-vw2pm 3 місяці тому

      Thanks for the very good reply. I have tried alot of those things. It's more the guitar tone. Sounds great on the pc . But so much different on all other devices. I've got bias FX amplitube. Tonex. It happens on them all. It's like I've not ticked a box. I've got a new pc. New interface. Even went and got a Gibson Les Paul. Still the same. Gibson does sound better tho lol

    • @commontimeproductions
      @commontimeproductions 3 місяці тому

      @@sr-vw2pm Hmmm, that does definately lead me to think that there is something else going on as well. What is the signal routing? Are you using the vst's on the tracks or the master track? Does it do the same thing if you are only tracking DI? What is your listening environment like? Sometimes a not so great mixing environment can give you false impressions of quality and then the minute you try another device or speaker it sounds terrible. There are so many possibilities, but if we go through each step one by one for your setup from fresh project to the mixdown, maybe something in the process will reveal to us what is not translating. I'll talk to Sam and we can think on it. It looks like tonex has a free trial, so maybe we can recreate the issue. Congrats on the new gear and PC too, getting those upgrades can really make a difference in our workflows!

    i saw you put the side chain on the bass channel but, I did no t see you set up a parameter for it to control on the bass itself?

    • @commontimeproductions
      @commontimeproductions 4 місяці тому

      Thanks for your question, yeah I did not use a parameter filter for the audio controller because it is being used pre-fader and is just allowing the compressor to work when the kick hits. To clarify, the compressor plugin on the bass guitar is triggered a few milliseconds early by being side-chained to the kick track. This opens up the compressor a bit early before the actual note of the bass guitar hits so that we can have the full front attack of the bass note. In this instance, none of the parameter filter options would be applicable here. Hopefully, that makes sense, I'm curious if you understand it differently or if I was unclear in the tutorial. Again, thanks so much for your question, I really appreciate the feedback :)

    • @commontimeproductions
      @commontimeproductions 4 місяці тому

      When you install any version of Mixcraft that has Melodyne (9 or 10) it also walks you through the process of installing and authorizing Melodyne through their companies website, Celemony. I imagine going to the celemony website there may be offers to upgrade in your celemony account. It has been quite a while since they updated from Melodyne 4 to 5, but there may be offers still for a free upgrade. If not, maybe write a nice email to their support and let them know you have been using an older version of Mixcraft and would like to keep it due to stability, but would like an upgrade to Melodyne 5. They are super nice at Celemony and we love Melodyne. So much so that I actually upgraded to the studio version. Highly recommend if you decided to go that route. Also, Melodyne does work as a standalone product which you can choose when installing with Mixcraft as well.

    Great video! Why don't you use the new stereo to mono feature on the channel strip?

  • @felixchen8295
    @felixchen8295 5 місяців тому

    Duplicate a left-channel (mono) recorded guitar track to two tracks, then pan one track to 50% left with compression and EQ FX, and pan the other track to 100% right with reverb FX. That can make the guitar sound full!! Interesting but may I know why?

    • @commontimeproductions
      @commontimeproductions 5 місяців тому

      This was a trick we learned to add more width to the guitar from our friend Warren over at Produce Like A Pro. There is also the Dave Jerden trick for mixing big guitars where you can double the guitars on each side and then layer it with bass for a baritone guitar effect which will make the guitars even bigger in width! Thanks so much for your comment/questions!

    Very detailed. I have been puzzled with the SOLO button in a track. SOLO is supposed to EXCLUSIVELY mute all other tracks as a short cut. But apparently SOLO button does not work that way. What do you think about the SOLO button?

    • @commontimeproductions
      @commontimeproductions 5 місяців тому

      Great question about the Solo button! In Mixcraft 10, the solo button isolates and focuses on specific tracks by muting all others not soloed. It's great for those detailed adjustments or examining parts of your mix in isolation. Interestingly, you can also solo multiple tracks simultaneously to see how they blend. Plus, you can use CTRL click on a soloed track which will unsolo all tracks at once.

  • @Obe_Kukun
    @Obe_Kukun 5 місяців тому

    Great video! I don't think the use of output track for that. In my opinion, just use the send track or effects on the track. Quicker we can click the Alt key to duplicate the effects. Do projects with 48khz have to mixdown with 48khz? Because I've heard that mixdown to 44.1khz or a different sample rate will change the results.

    • @commontimeproductions
      @commontimeproductions 5 місяців тому

      Thanks so much for your comment! Yeah, I wanted to show how the outbus track could be used for amps and whatnot. It is more for routing in other ways or for hooking into outboard gear etc. Love the tip on the alt key for duplicating effects, I didn't even think to check it did that even though I use that function in ProTools for other stuff. As for the 48khz, generally when recording we tend to try for the higher bitrate to preserve the most of the recording. So we learned 48khz, 24 bit is a good industry standard. Mixing down to 44.1khz, 16-bit is usually for CD quality and is still quite common as well. The difference would be negligible, but if you are worried about it using something that dithers the track down to 44.1khz 16-bit with mastering would be the best choice.

    I've got Mixcraft 10 Pro Studio back in summer last year & i'm quite enjoying the new features. And in my opinion. The new features & improvements in Mixcraft 10 blows Mixcraft 9 out the window. The new GUI is much better including the light theme. Rock solid stability and flexibility. The bug fixes in new version patches thus making Mixcraft 10 more better head on & many others. Looking forward to see what the fine tolks from Acoustica has in store for us as Mixcraft 10 gets more better this year.

      I think I have it figured out, I need to test a few things since I don't have a mastering device or something analog like that. I have a Presonus hybrid mixer that I am going to try. So far, it looks like you just need to set up an Output Bus Track in the mix and then designate in the mixer tab on it's channel the output to the analog device. I also think you might need something like ASIO Link Pro which will give you many more routing options and a sort of patch bay style routing that will be more what you need for your application. Not sure if I can demonstrate it all in a video since I don't have analog gear that I am running with a loopback atm. If you would like, you could also email me at acommontimeproduction@gmail.com and we can chat more in depth. Hope that this helps!

    super cool. Subscribed. Thanks for this info. I'll keep looking around for the answer to my current situation... that is, in Mixcraft 10, vocal track with the Melodyne plug-in seem to longer allow the automation of the volume & pan. :/ Any ideas?

    • @commontimeproductions
      @commontimeproductions 6 місяців тому

      Thanks so much for your comment and question! I'm wondering if you are meaning that after using Melodyne on your vocal track it didn't keep the automation and panning you had set? If that is the case, you could render the track before and then apply your automation and panning. I will take a look at Melodyne and see what I can find.

      Yes, you can easily have both copies on the same PC and they could be used. I would definitely make a copy of any file from 9 that you open in 10 though, just in case you can't re-open it in 9 afterward or need to go back and reference the settings you had in the 9 project. Hope this helps!

    A tip when you are doing these excellent tutorials for Mixcraft: Perhaps not have so many tracks in your project when demonstrating stuff? It makes the interface and especially mixer look cluttered. Instead just have an empty tracks list when starting the lessons, and add tracks as needed? Make the amount of tracks you're using as bare-bones as possible and focus on demonstrating what you are talking about instead. Just a thought. Also, sometimes you forget to explain a bit about _why_ you're doing something. Fore instance, some words on why you are for instance duplicating the bass and low or high passing the two channels would be very helpful to the student. Thank you for these!

    The sounds that come with Mixcraft are heavily compressed Ogg Vorbis - basically not much better than MP3. Acoustica refuse to inform people about it. Very irresponsible. Someone making serious music does not make it with heavily compressed audio samples, but they do so in Mixcraft without knowing ☹️

    hi how did you get the parametric eq on the mixer tab? it's not on mine. i have mc pro studio 10, did you have to download it?

    • @commontimeproductions
      @commontimeproductions 7 місяців тому

      Hi there and thanks for your question, to enable the parametric EQ in the mixer tab you will need to click on the gear for settings located on the left of the channels. It is called "mixer panel preferences" when you hover over it. Then check the box for the parametric EQ and any other things you would like to see or uncheck for things you don't use. Then to make sure that it shows up for every new mix, check the box at the bottom of the window to make default for new projects. Hope that this helps!
