Okay, listen up. I have a pretty good amount of knowledge about the Napoleonic wars, so I have a good theory about this, if it was intentional. I forgot the name of the map, but this is a real event in Napoleonic history. The Russians were closing in on the French that were trying to retreat from Russia. Napoleon tricked them into thinking he was going one way, and then going the other on rapidly built platoon bridges which is what we see. However, the bridge was burnt before everyone could cross. In the game it is blown up by a singular person, but that doesn’t really matter. Now in the timeline the Russians would capture the French soldiers stuck but they didn’t. My theory is that the blight stopped them from closing in and killed most of their armies forcing them to retreat. Seeing how the people who deliver wood are military Russians, they were probably the people who informed us about what was happening and came from that regiment possibly running away. That figure who you are seeing is probably another person who was part of that regiment. He doesn’t know if you will be aggressive or friendly towards him so he just watches from the shadows. Remember this is I think the first or second instance of the blight being encountered. So that is my theory on what happened. Bridge blew up, Russians tried closing in but were ambushed, some made it out and either helped us or simply watched us. And after this battle part of the bite continued to chase them while the other half may have found out about the people still on the bridge. The other scenario is that they did not chase us but it was simply the graves emerging at that moment and the zombies that are in the ice are probably zombies that were dead (or thought to be dead) by the Russians. Maybe they didn’t know about them and took the river as a kind of shortcut. Remember this is just a theory but it is a pretty accurate one.
