The person you explain in this video is me, I went to high school, dropped out. I got into a program to get my diploma and realize how much I really liked math. I have been I the thought process for about two years about going to community college and then transferring to a uni for engineering. I can say I very much appreciate the learning process now at 24 vs being in HS and just trying to get things done for a grade. I feel like now my brain is hungry for information I want to learn complex mathematics and be good at them.

08:08 that's the flawed mentality I had about university/college. I was trying to cover as much content as fast as possible by watching the videos and just using the lecture slides (hardly even touched the textbook) When AJD was recommended to me, everything changed. I actually opened the textbook, read, understood and applied the knowledge and my Gawd! He was right, the textbook has everything you need, if not, look for it through research 😭 Failed math and physics because of my sheer ignorance and entitlement You get paid to do the work, not by how quick, but how well you do it

I've subbed to you a little while ago off of one video. You are mostly correct in your point of view and I agree with like 99% of the things you say. However, while I think it's good that you're trying to put your views up for offer in the world to counter all the nonsense out there, I also sadly think that you words are falling on deaf ears. I don't have a college degree myself but I'm no idiot either. I'm an autodidact who've used textbooks to learn college level math etc. A relative of mine is a college professor and I'd help grade student's chem papers at night for fun and listen to the woe's of dealing with students after work every night and it was great insight into the state of colleges and the caliber of the students therein. It appears they are still complaining about teachers/ professors blaming them for their poor performance, making excuses, constantly missing deadlines for projects and overall still want to be spoon fed. What a joke. Students who are at a college level who haven't achieved the level of what I call "astute self learners" are going to be employee's, sure, but they will be very average at their jobs. They can get away with that in the current political and cultural climate unfortunately. You can't hammer it in enough for them to realize that they are simply lazy losers. Every video you do, you stress the importance of not using other peoples's videos to learn math/ science etc but it's futile in my view. The fact that having cheat sheets for e.g. in high school is a thing in the US blew my mind away. I was raised in the Caribbean where math had to be done from your head 100% of the time or from actually knowing the material top to bottom. A cheat sheet doesn't exist and it's totally forbidden. You will earn a big fat ZERO if you ever get caught with one during exams. You have to learn the material and know how to problem solve. This is the core of competence. There is some value to watching videos but it is over valued. Textbooks are the way to go. Tutorials and cheatsheets are the way to ZERO. Students need to learn the joy and pain of getting stuck on one problem for extended periods but never looking online for the solution or some tutorial. I still do math for the sake of it and still go days thinking about ONE problem until I find the solution. Nothing beats learning in this way imo. Anyways, great video.

Question(s): I took your advice and studied two weeks prior to the semester during winter break, however I feel that some of the information I learned isn't relevant, and any relevant information I only have a conceptual understanding and some practice on. So I feel like I barely studied ahead of the semester. This question is, is it too late to get two weeks ahead? If not, what would a realistic schedule look like? Are there any one-day breaks? Should I sacrifice sleep? What should I do? Study ofc, but how can I get ahead, effectively? My course incase your were curious: (Or if it helps) - Thermodynamics - Differential Equations - Dynamics - Intro to aerospace engineering - Engineering Drafting - Gen-Ed

@ not the importance of using a textbook part really. But I whole heartedly agree that great textbooks offer better information than lectures and UA-cam videos most of the times . Different forms of media convey different forms of comprehension. In certain situations the books are better. for example, the second hand rule in magnetism or maybe certain simulations of certain mechanisms or machines. Maybe even using certain software. Then the videos are wayyyyy better than books.

This is why I love a good textbook. Just to share a prespective, my education in Germany was so chaotic and garbage, there was practically no curriculum and you didn't know if you pick up a book if it's relevant or not... Learned to go through videos quickly to get an overview of the chapters and topics, then search forums for relevant textbooks, and try to have the faith and patience going through a textbook that it's relevant to what the professor imagines should be in the course and puts on the exam.

As a STEM student I got two things to say here There are are a lot of degrees that allow to balance But let's be real if you can the cahnces are despite whatever fancy names you gonna have in your diploma your degree isn't that demanding and so you are not that good at it And the other thing is that STEM majors which will have the best free time to degree value ratio are the narrow ones And it is important that narrow field is not one which has a small market share or seems rare but the one that where you are required to learn mostly subjects of similar kind Pure electronics Pure mech. eng. Pure civil. I am in automotive and the number of different subjects you have to manage at the same time is just diabolical One day I am designing a tube in CAD the next day I am making a DC/DC converter in matlab the next day I am learning sheet after sheet of law Of course you gonna have very little free time in majors like that with little immediate benifit in return That's my advice to you all 18year olds out there deciding where to go if you stumble upon my comment
