Cyclone Gabrielle caused significant damage to the roading and rail networks in the Hawkes Bay. This presentation will focus on the impact of this extreme weather event on the rail network and recovery work currently underway, with specific reference to bridge damage on the Napier to Wairoa section of the Palmerston North Gisborne Line (PNGL).

Seatoun Tunnel (Wellington) Seismic Strengthening Seatoun Tunnel is a critical heritage asset of Wellington providing access to the suburb of Seatoun. The portals of the tunnel were identified as being vulnerable to failure in significant earthquake events. The Seatoun Tunnel was strengthened using minimal concrete members to supplement the existing portal and ground anchors to anchor the structure into rock. Innovative construction approaches were adopted to carry out the strengthening with minimal impact on the heritage fabric of the structure and cater for widely varying ground conditions at the site. The presentation will provide an overview of the design and construction challenges and how these were overcome by the team.

Bojan Radosavljevic is Wellington Regional Manager for Construction Techniques Ltd, as a Contract Director Bojan was responsible for the overall delivery of the Seatoun Tunnel strengthening project.
