I finally found a working M710 memory expansion board. Was looking for more than a year, then when I gave up, one appears on ebay. Sold!

Certainly an interesting experience as a never used an amiga in my life person setting everything up from scratch after a motherboard repair restoration. (left for dead in a spider infested shed for 20 years, only thing it needed was a ride in the dishwasher and replacement ram chips)

Not many people realize this but you can install PS Now on windows 10 and 11 and you can play PS games on the Atari VCS 🤯
Just throw it away and use ssd, HD sucks all the time.
cool 😎😎
Did you get this board re-capped? You said you'd post an update when done, and I don't see an update, which concerns me! I need to recap the same board.
Nine Inch Nails ahh beat
The Department of Social Security (pre-Centrelink) had many thousands of these Wang 386 desktops in the early-mid 1990s.
i have this exact same computrer, where did you get the mr. bios file? i'd like to try it.
Installing on an internal SSD was not difficult, Windows 11... worth it.
Very cool! Where do you get this stuff?
I used to work for Wang in the late 79"s
I posted a video on my channel on how to upgrade the 80286 8 MHz processor to a 10 MHz processor. 😃
nice, will check it out
Where did you find the schematics? Can you point us in the right direction? I'm making a complete set for this exact board.
I've seen this happen multiple times on some drives I own. What you did (spinning the platters with the heads on) is the worst you can do as it can damage the platters. What I usually do is slowly move the heads towards the parking zone (in your case the side ramp) while making sure no fingerprint goes on the platters, and the disks often goes back to normal. The only problem is that they often get or develop bad sectors afterwards (if they start working at all) because they got opened. Doesn't seem to me like the electronics of the drive are bad. Just seems like the heads were stuck and the sound the drive made when powered on was the drive trying to unstuck them.
I don’t know why but my first thought was to think that it had a good beat
Good
In a former life id be called on to retrieve data from DOA HDD's so I had a cabinet full of different drives to borrow controller boards from to retrieve the Data or do a raw read of the physical drive had crashed. Physical crashes were rare which made the task way quicker and as simple board swap would usually make the data available again with IDE drives, SCSI drives were a bit more work as they were sometimes more complex.
Speak your wizardary magic man
I replaced this today, in continous service since 2017. Platter cannot spin at all, heads will not move and will not park. No scratches on disk surface from the heads and heads look fine under the microscope. Is this simply an electronics failure where the head can no longer move and thats what caused the death ?
Nice! You could eke out a little bit more responsiveness from Vista on this device by using the "Classic" (?) display theme and turning off any and everything related to Aero. That will free up some memory and CPU time. Not sure how many USB ports it has, but a USB Wifi dongle or USB Ethernet dongle could let you get a local network connection.
Nice clunks

Hi there, just wondering if I could get my modem and router to be in the living room instead of the garage (since the living room is in the centre of the house). Since the NTD unit is also located in the garage, given that my whole house is Cat 6 cabled, can I connect the UNI-D 1 port with a ethernet cable to the side panel's ethernet port which is corresponding to the wall data point in my living room, then connect my modem to that data point then the router to the modem? So that I can have all my man cave devices connected directly to the router for full speed.
Did you manage to get this running? This was the motherboard in the first PC I built for myself.
I honestly think that FTTN works fine in my home, 90% of the issues I had years ago were equipment quality so I was offered an upgrade Modem with WiFi and 4g backup. I recently checked the uptime on the modem and it hasn't rebooted since install with very few logged notifications. For what its worth We run multiple streaming services, a few game consoles and 3 or 4 sessions on UA-cam and between the service speed and buffering the system holds its own. We have been offered "Free" install and modem FTTP with an increased subscriber cost but as my actual data speed is well in excess of the stated speed im going to hold off :-)
i have FTTN and it is shit constantly unstable speeds and buffering regardless of the time of the day but no dropouts i'm so fed up with it i'd rather have FTTP
Thanks for video. Subbed! I built my dream machine in 2004 with a ASUS A8N32 Deluxe with a Athlon X2 4800. I left it in the shed and took it out 2 months ago only to find mouse piss all over it. Some of the connectors had bite marks too. I managed to wash everything off but it looks like some of the mosfets and gone. I’m about to recap it and replace the dead mosfets. Where do you buy your Panasonic caps from? I’m from Brissie :)
This crap is why I'm using Ali express more for chinesium, Plus mostly faster freight and tracking. Sellers also have way longer issue and return windows and its getting more professional to use although the platform needs refinement.
Big man! Yeah, SMD soldering is the way. Excellent skill to have :) I’ve had a few life changes recently - I’ll send you an email soon.
What an odd machine
A blast from the past :-) There were some Adult type games as well from memory, a novelty these days like Apples Pandora's box and a few others you could buy as shareware and either burn to EEPROM or load painfully from tape. Love it!
Wow another PET saved from the Pet Cemetrey
Beautiful system. Congrats on the repair, that sounds like it was quite the battle!
Those 4 ICs won't escape ever again... :D
these zip tied video memory srams came from the seller with short legs. Don’t know if they were like that new or if are tested pulls. They work them selves out of the sockets if not zip tied. I am thinking about buying a set elsewhere.
Hi, I'm a long time commodore enthusiast. Congrats on getting that to work. I remember seeing these 8032's on page advertisements & articles in computer magazines, namely in commodore-specific mags. I actually still have those mags. This model was unique in that they had that "futuristic" sleek curves & lines of the case, unlike all the other commodore machines ever produced. Ira Velinksy is the case designer, as well as designing other commodore cases. I don't have an 8032 though, but I still have all my commodore 64 stuff throughout the ages. I too am also into electronics, since the early 1980's. Hopefully you find the other keycaps.
Early 80's I believe the Pet ended, I remember playing with these at a CIT Open Day as a 12 yr old in 1978. A truly interesting example of the Personal Computer and 100% a US product to combat the scourge that was Japanese Tech.... (China was still an Agricultural nation) Built a Basic language kit form ZX80 a few years later which was interesting and shortly after that another Kit form Dick Smith Cat 200 (Dishwashing job paid well) for my first foray into DOS because buggered if I was going to stick to Cassette player data storage lol Commodore Machines were probably the First Games Consoles as that was what most households used them for and tough as nutz withstanding the use and occasional abuse kids gave them. After DOS machines and emulator boards playing cross brand Basic and CMB games on DOS machines was a breeze and 5 inch double sides floppy disks gave a massive 1.2 meg of storage for viewing 8 bit Mono bewbs while playing solitaire :-) Love your work mate!
Well you may have convinced me to get this.
Just picked one up. I was in the market for a mini PC and they were on Sale for $180 usd for black friday.
My dream came true playing gta 5 on a Atari console
just curious but what ram did you buy for uprgrade
this is the exact ram i bought and installed - you should be able to find a seller local to you: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB)... www.amazon.com.au/dp/B019MRBKYG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Thanks mate got mine from Pax for $300
Have you done any BIOS adjustments? The VCS only utilizes 2gb of RAM for the graphics side of the APU. With your 16gb you could allocate 4gb to graphics for more performance. Another thing to tweak in the BIOS is disabling the Core Performance Boost. This Boost mode overdrives the APU at times but it drives up the heat in the system and causes greater dips and spikes in performance. The VCS actually runs smoother and quieter with the Core Performance Boost turned off.
I have not been into bios at all. I read somewhere that with the latest bios update they blocked end user access and the password no longer works, so I never tried. If there is a current password known for the latest bios let me know and i'll take a look.
Thanks for the video. I have one myself and have had nothing but trouble as I have a unit which does not accept the bios password specified by atari after many attempts at following their instructions. I will try once again very soon and do a video recording for them as evidence of following the instructions to the letter. I have discovered others on various forums indicating they have had the same problem. I have been able to install Uhbuntu and Peppermint Linux, but they for some reason (probably uefi security key related) don't seem to remain bootable. I have tried two different external sata ssd enclosures and 2 different sata ssd's to rule out hardware incompatibility, but the problem must be the vcs itself seeing that all those configurations work elsewhere just fine. I've never had so much problems w/any pc or laptop I've come across.
I didn’t bother going into bios, the boot priority already is usb first the m.2 slot second then the internal emmc third. Windows 10 then 11 have been flawless on the machine. I play steam games way more than the atari side. Probably 95% steam and 5% atari, Till theres more exciting games to play on the atari side this probably wont change any time soon. Ive also removed the heat insulative silicon pad under the heatsink now and run paste which has solved the constant fan screaming issue.
Agreed about how versatile the VCS is, yet how misunderstood it is. I have done most of what you have shown with my upgraded VCS including playing RDR II with lower settings, but very playable. Thanks for doing the video to get the word out on what is possible for the VCS with Windows.
The Atari name appears to be cursed, ever since my childhood, no matter the owners of the trading name - they have some good ideas but poorly market them, poorly explain them, poorly support them or what ever. I hope this time the curse can be broken. I’m so far not holding my breath. I hope i’m wrong.
This is good console/PC for that money
Fond memories! Sony TCFX3 was mine
Man id grab one just for Duke Nukem lol Make a good EPC machine maybe?
