This is a tutorial on how to tie an FG Knot with a Rizzuto Finish. Well tied, you can expect this knot to hold up to 70/80% of the absolute breaking strength of the main line. 20-28 Chinese Finger Grip (24-26 is my sweet spot) 6-10 Alternating Half Hitches (I normally tie 8) 5-10 turn Rizzuto Finish (I tend to tie 7)

I tie an FG variation knot for all of the outfits that I cast with. I expect this knot to hold up somewhere from 75 - 85% of the weaker line strength. I typically leave a long leader tag end because it doesn't affect my line a whole lot on casts, and I can see the rate at which my FG is pulling. Not supposed to have ANY hitches if you're finish with a rizzuto. They actually get in the way of the rizzuto and don't allow it to do it's thing.

And you just doubled the diameter of the knot. It fancy, its pretty, but your half hitches stay small. In addition, you can tie a few additional half hitches on the braid AFTER cutting the leader, and it serves to "ramp" the end of the fg over the guides. Then touch the ends with the slightest dab of super glue.

I understand the process but when I pull tight at the end it ends up looking like a jumbled up mess and the tag end of braid is not secured. It can be pulled back out of the knot and starts to unravel the rizzuto

Do you still do the 4 half hitches before the Rizutto finish?
No hitches if using rizzuto finish. They get in the way and don't allow for rizz to clinch down properly
