0:58 Marlon: (sings) It was the third of September. That day I'll always remember, yes I will. 'Cause that was the day that my daddy died. I never got a chance to see him. Never heard nothin' but bad things about him. Mama, I'm depending on you, to tell me the truth. Mama just hung her head and said, son.

They started performing this song in 1973 (2 years earlier) on their tour in Japan and they performed the song waaay better then. The tempo was slower and more like original Temptations version and they had Jermaine helping them out with those vocal harmonies making it sound fuller. They had similar choreography but it worked with a slower tempo and there was no horn section; although I love the horns in this performance.

Exactly. This song is suppose to be mournful but they're lively and excited, clapping in unison, flying through the air, doing flips and squats like they're a circus act. That's not the way you're suppose to act, when you find out that your father died, even if they never got a chance to meet him. Hell, even if he was Joe Jackson. That last part was just me trying to be humourous. I actually had A LOT of respect for Joe Jackson. He saw a vision for his kids and made them a success. None of his kids are thugs, jailbirds or drug addicts, except Michael, the most successful one of all. I've never heard of none of the brothers being disrespectful or abusive to their mother, father, siblings, wives or children. For a black man to raise 9 successful and productive children, up from nothing, during the civil rights era is a huge accomplishment by itself but to raise 2 multi millionaire superstars is amazing.
