Fantasy on a Theme of Penacony - Honkai: Star Rail | #Multiversevistas
Update 7/5/24: I want to express my most profound gratitude to Yoko Kanno sensei for choosing this work as the first place winner. Even now it feels unreal to think that I have gotten first place. To my viewers, thank you for your continuous support!
This is my entry for the 2024 Honkai: Star Rail Multiverse Vistas Annual Creator Competition.
Ever since I started 2.0 in Penacony, I immediately noticed how great the music was, and decided that I MUST arrange the jazzy and dreamy main theme. After the announcement of Multiverse Vistas 2024, I decided to enter the competition with a composition I wrote that uses the main theme of Penacony for solo piano, hence the name, Fantasy on a Theme of Penacony.
This piece is written in three different sections with heavy inspiration from Romantic Era and Impressionist Era piano repertoires such as work by Ravel, Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff. The first section is an introduction and development of the Penacony main theme, it begins by stating the main motif of Penacony in its original form, and decorated by textures that were inspired by Ravel's Ondine, and develops through a seletion of piano techniques used by Liszt, Ravel, and Chopin. The second section is in bel canto style and uses a snippet of the Penacony motif and develops it into what I intended to be a romantic (in the loving way) poem for the piano, with harmony centering around the major minor modality that ends in a rather unsettling way, leading to the third section, which begins with a fugato using the ptiches of the Penacony motif but inverted as its subject, and then finally concludes with a climax that imitates the finales of Romantic Era piano concert repertoire.
Besides the main theme of Penacony, I also quoted the Dies irae in order to represent death, as it is at this point a common reference in classical music and has been done by many major composers. Feel free to look at the musical references below if you are curious
For those Star Rail players that are also music nerds, here are all the music references and snippets I put into the piece for fun (STORY SPOILER WARNING):
2:34 - First reference of the piano intro from "If I Can Stop One Heart From Breaking" used as a accompanying figure under the main theme.
4:05 - Musical representation of Robin's and Firefly's "Deaths," The intro from "If I Can Stop One Heart From Breaking" is interrupted by Dies Irae
4:38 - The fugue uses the inversion of the Penacony motif as its subject as reference to the Dream Ticker mirror puzzles in Penacony
5:15 to 5:30 - The highest note of the right hand up and down figure is a hidden 5th voice, which quotes Dies Irae and represents, F E F D E C D D. This is mixed together with a part of the Penacony motif.
5:35 - Dies Irae motif used in a scherzando (joking and playful) manner, because true death does not exist in Penacony. However, one must "die" to reach the other side.
5:46 - The leitmotif of the Trailblazer, as Penacony's story has deep ties to the Nameless.
There is a score available, however it was solely for personal used and mainly for learning the piece. I still have to make many notational and visual improvements before making it public, but I will put it out once it is ready for those of you who wants to learn the piece. I will probably publish it in a few weeks.
Thank you for watching, and see you next time.
Oh, and good luck pulling Firefly...

Scriabin Prelude For The Left Hand Op. 9 No. 1 (Sound Test 2)

Hi Everyone, This is a second sound test on a different piano, as well as an experiment with camera angles (please excuse my terrible mac book camera quality I will eventually get a real 3rd camera for that sick inside of the piano reverse pov shot, I hope you don't find the faces I make when I am playing silly). This is a beautiful piece, and it shows just how much even one hand can do. Althou...

Hi Everyone! Its been a short while since I uploaded. I was looking for a way to record piano in a more authentic way. Sure, MIDI sounds are great but MIDI will always lack the brilliance and lyrical element of a real piano. I experimented on a few pianos in my college's practice rooms and this one is in my opinion the best one. Now I know it isn't perfectly in tune and some notes are not as ba...

The Most Overlooked Concept in Music

Hello Everyone, Its been a long while since my last upload, but I have always wanted to discuss this topic as I feel like this is one of the most overlooked concepts in musical performance. For the 3 amazing pianists I used as examples in this video, here are the links of the original videos: Martha Argerich Scarlatti Sonate K.141: ua-cam.com/video/Gh9WX7TKfkI/v-deo.html Yulianna Avdeeva Chopin...

Hello everyone, Today is August 31st, which is Miku's anniversary. The same day in 2007, Hatsune Miku was released to the world. Yeah, its been 15 years since Miku was released, and Vocaloid music has really came a long way, we are talking about the days before Miku was even released, when Meiko and Kaido ruled the world of vocal synthesizers. It is a day worth celebrating for Vocaloid fans, as...
Genshin Impact Main Theme - Piano
Переглядів 1,2 тис.2 роки тому
Hello Everyone, This piece is one of the most well-known main themes from any video games. Yes, the chords and structure are VERY standard and on paper, this piece is just another stereotypical RPG game main theme. However, Yu-Peng Chen's way of creating different textures through his polished instrumentation is what separates this "Lydian motif main theme" from every other Lydian motif main th...

Chopin Prelude Op. 28 No. 16 in Bb Minor
A breakdown of my favourite genshin soundtrack? How come I'm just seeing this!?
Finally! You're the first one I've found to talk about the sneaky key change. It's been fascinating me for so long because it's so subtle that I haven't even been registering it as a key change until I tried to dissect the music.
運指が美しすぎる
THIS IS SO COOL?!?!?!? I LOVE THIS ARRANGEMENT SO MUCH!!! The shifting textures and RH/LH dynamics throughout are such a treat to listen to! I looove the rhythmic comping around 0:51 (until the end of the chorus). I really like how the left hand generally feels so rhythmically independent, but aligns briefly to accentuate the repeated C# in the right hand melody :') The jazz voicings around 1:47 are so crunchy!! I also like how the section at 3:33 preserves the left hand jumps while introducing another rhythmic layer... also the way you lead into the conclusion at 3:46 omg. So good Thank you for your hard work arranging and recording this, I enjoyed it a lot :D
Absolutely astounding! Thank you for the composition, will have this on repeat until the end of HSR!
演奏もアレンジも美しすぎます👏👏👏
美しすぎて鳥肌なんよ
This is probably by far THE most unique arrangement for Honkai Star Rail. So many technical details and harmonic enrichments. 1st place is truly well deserved! Congratulations!!
Thank you! Your orchestral arrangement also blew me away.
Incredible, your technique is profoundly beautiful.
Thank you!
Congrats on winning! I voted this and wondered why it didn't have many votes. It's beautiful and very inspiring :)
Thank you for your support!
congrats
Thank you!
Congratulations!🎉
Thank you!
Thank you so much for this wonderful analysis!
This arrangement is insane and your technique is ridiculously clean too. Easy to tell how much care/effort went into it. You really captured the atmosphere of Penacony, fantastic job!
AMAZING PIECE jklsfvgklsarogr; Sen this is great!
damn, she really cooked again with this one
Another banger! And is that a new piano? 😮
The hairtcut suits you
SEN?!
If this was 1 hour I would have watched it twice Great video thank you very much
Afdhdh dude i would totally watch a 1 hour version of this😭✨ There are literally no other music channels that go this in depth on Genshin music
So good ! I applaud you.
The French 6th and the Neapolitan are my favorite chords!
強い
This deserves so many views, amazing
give us more you coward!
this is an amazing rendition !!! i enjoyed it a lot :D
I really liked the dish/spice analogy! David Bruce talked about "out-there" music in a similar way, likening it to a bitter drink that you acquire a taste for (a kind of beer I forget the name of? loll) Extending this analogy to seeing different styles/genres as different flavors, it makes sense why sometimes I'm feeling like listening to Mozart, other times Takemitsu, Ravel, Tchaikovsky, etc., or music outside Western classical entirely (which I could benefit from listening to more of tbh, but what can I say, classical music's my favorite haha)
I’m one whole year late but this video was just recommended to me, and it was a super fascinating and educational watch, even if I don’t know much about music terminology! It is always satisfying and joyful to see others nerd out about Yu-Peng Chen and Genshin’s music and express the same level of love, passion, and appreciation that I’ve always had for the soundtrack of this game. Hoyo-Mix is certainly in good hands after Yu-Peng Chen’s announcement of departure from the company, but I will forever miss his work in the game. He is truly one of the most skilled, talented, and irreplaceable composers of this generation. The game will not be the same without him.
Lmao I have been learning piano for almost half a year now and I don’t think I can do this even with two hands 😂
Soon you will be able to play this too.
Excellent, what's the maximum intervallic span? Within a phrase, not in total.
Eleventh I think. So actually quite rollable, unless you are talking about the interval between the lowest base note and the highest melody note within a phrase. It is almost 3 octaves at the end.
youre really talented. if you can play more pianeet stuff thatd be great.
I definitely will be playing more Pianeet stuff :)
wohh real piano now yayy! Also the sound quality is quite good; in terms of sound tests, this is as well as it gets for a still growing creator.
Thanks for the analysis
For reasons likely to involve how my HS band teachers arranged percussion, I can play rhythm notation #1 much more easily than #2. Strangely, your point still stands with pitched instruments.
That example from the Ravel piece sounds simply wondrous!
Just stumbled across this channel on my recommended. Pretty interesting stuff here!
In 19-TET this scale gets even more amazing
Real spicy for sure 👀
Nice playing
I'm confused... Are you AI generated??
No, I’m real 😯
@@sen_is_busy I don't know what's real anymore
Whole-tone scale is actually harmonized well by major seventh chords with diminished fifth: maj 3rd + maj 2nd + maj 3rd. Example in Rachmaninoff 4 mvt 1. Btw I appreciate that you managed to cover everything comprehensively in less than 3 minutes, it's rare nowadays. It is actually the reason I watched this video, I would have skipped if it were 16 minutes long.
you played this so well especially for a keyboard, awesome job!
I think you are getting better and better at video editing, seriously awesome stuff!
These scales sound like magic and dreams, very cool!
Found here a real gem for a UA-cam channel. awesome
Nice, you might want to correct the title, though
Hahaha I just saw 🤣
Keep going !
Just amazing! Please do more of these
liebestraum recording when?
Hahaha eventually :)
among the better/top arrangements for this song; you are underrated asf
