Well done, Stephen and the Players. Delightfully atmospheric. I tried to guess the key (if, indeed, only one key is used). Could I hear A flat minor? Maybe G major? But I had to give up!
It starts in G major and modulates to Db major at the halfway point and then home to G major. The trick is, in a distant modulation like this, is to get it all to sound natural and effortless. Also note the chromatic descending bass line.

is it in g but written without a key signature? I have started seeing this a lot and am curious if it is the new standard.
It begins and ends in G major but there is a centre section in which it works its way - with descending bass movement - into the the unlikely key of Db major. How do I know? Only because Stephen told me!
Hi Judith, As Pops Coffee has stated it modulates to a distant key. Rather that add naturals to the F#, if I used a key signature, I decied to go without to keep the score as clean as possible. As for this being a 'new standard', I dunno. Cheers, Stephen

This is one way to clear the carb of gas - later I discovered it had a screw to drain the darn thing. One learns as one goes along.
All this starting issue was a super tiny tiny bit of dirt in a carb passage that I finally found and cleared after three years! Now it starts on the first or second kick.

It's a wonderful work....full of a myriad of textures and moods and always the dynamic rhythmic drive which is a salientfeature of this composer's work. I also see the piece as a vehicle for a 1st rate dance troop. The National Ballet of Canada could use this recording for rehearsal. Hard to find a pianist that could play this.
Fun, interesting (in the best sense of the word!), and engaging - I'd love to hear this performed by a live orchestra!
