Just a stones throw from the picturesque town of Oregon, Illinois, lives this happy little rock. For generations, it has served as a landmark meeting place. It was the local "lovers lane" for many years. Public access was sealed off in 1996. The spirit lives on.

Exploring Chicago's Abandoned Ghost Ship
Why not make it into a museum piece
That song.
The clicking and popping from your 2 dollar camera is annoying. Clicked out after 2 minutes
Interesting. I have been on around 80 mothballed ships stored in the Suisun Naval Reserve Fleet out here in the Bay Area. I've been on all kinds of ships. A BB, a CA, AO's, AKA's, AS, AK's, AOR's, T-AKE's, AOE's, AE to name some. There were a few Victory Ships and one WWII oiler that would make this ship look downright clean. By the way it is a head and galley not a landlubber bathroom and kitchen.
My dad worked on that boat when it was being fitted at Port Weller dry docks in St.Catharines ON
Take away from this video : Nothing...
I do wonder how the filmer got on it as well,as another person asked?
What was that on an old abandoned ship, and how?
My question is,if the ship was abandoned for years, why do I hear mechanical noise in the background, like it's still being powered???
it probably has power ran to it so it can run the bilge pump so it doesn't sink.
More than probably, those electric bilge pumps look rather new and well maintained.
Its a damn shame what happened there. It was so pristine inside. There were even guns left at a time...
The decay is insane. I came here a couple years after it was abandoned. Crazy how much changed
Another video by the man!
Definitely out dated but still a nice house. In some ways I miss my old house, it was around the same age. I doubt many houses built today will still be standing in 100 years.
Is your camera as old as the ship? Focus is bad and you can hear the mechanical zoom 😂😂
You go explore the ship then dumbass
@@1pfullerwhy so mad? Did he insult your lover?
Buy a proper camera with image stabilizer, you get dizzy from see this
Exactly!! The camera is from the ship
I had to stop watching, I felt nauseous.
Old fashioned but you can see they took good care for it. Very nice house. Thanks for taking us there 👍😃
😢 How sad.
So cool to see that old Royal typewriter in the office yet!
Did that phone just ring??? IDK 🤷🏾♂️ starts going on!!! Lol...
Wish you got more kf the engine room, as an engineer would have love to seen it
Damn. Do you have any more footage of the engine room? Shes one of the last reciprocating steam powered lakers in existence.
For safety reasons im glad he didnt go in there as theres probably alot of gasses in there
@tripwire3992 there is another urban explorer who did make it into the engine room. Risky business, but I do appreciate the footage albeit shaky.
19:54 According to eBay there is over 300.00 Dollars USDA of soap sitting there!😀
Ive seen this before i have a question about the ghost ship how did you get up im going with my kayaks
Your right it should be restored.
Beautiful, it deserves preservation indeed 👍😄
Schoolhouse? I thought it said school bus. Now I’m bummed out. My first chance to see a real life Flintstones bus and it’s just a house. 😢
Knowing Chicago they found a way to tax it which is probably why it was never dismantled.
i like your content but it would be nice if you could pan an area a little slower, makes me dizzy when you do it fast,...but good content. i never knew there was a lake back there, i've only seen it from the expressway
It’s the potato he’s filming with
Im from 130th and whats crazy is… drivin pass it on the expressway, u cant even tell its water there. You wouldnt think the ship was on water😂but 1.. how did u get on it? 2, i wonder how much, if anything, is valuable. 3, this ship should be in a museum
Had to stop watching half way. The videography was making me dizzy
This ship was a filming location for the Dark Knight! ua-cam.com/video/jAgGqQDv32k/v-deo.htmlsi=djsDFufemiMtWkwK at the 2:00 mark
Brooooooooo
It wasn't this ship, it was the john sherwin that is currently in Detour Michigan. The sherwin is in the same state as this ship and left to sit until it goes to the scrapper.
Second house looks like a bomb went off in there, brave to head upstairs
surprised the homeless have not moved into it
i would think this would still be a good ship to rebuild ,,as historical ship
Great find, Alex. I like industral stuff more, like the old boat, though ☺️
Duly noted.
Man this is a blast of a video, always extremely interesting Also, did you made that guitar track in the end?
Thank you, and yes I did make the guitar track.
@@alexplore92 cool!
Imagine going there at night... 👻
I kayaked the Chicago River at night, and witnessed a tugboat crew dumping their sewage into the water...
Absolutely shameful, but more ground is needed for people expansion and all these people have no one to stand up for them. Humans don’t a care any more. 😂😂
Absolutely true.
July 2012 on that magazine... man, it doesn't take long for stuff to go does it?
Youre right, once it starts to go, it goes fast.
@@alexplore92 Thank you for documenting it. Your channel is criminally undersubscribed. You'll get there. BTW.... check out a song called Island Clay by Lennie Gallant. To me it encapsulates what these houses feel like perfectly. The breakwater version is best, if you do go looking for it, not the duet.
Beautiful house, shame that it's trashed. You can't really see the beauty through the stuff
All too often, people end up collecting too much stuff over the years.
Very cool. Calumet River Fleeting also owns(and is looking to sell) this boat's sibling, the Mary E. Hannah. The boat is currently out of use, but very much functional and in great shape for her age. She is pretty similar looking inside, but not all dusty. I think she had the fortune of being repowered with a pair of 'modern' (perhaps i should say serviceable in 2024) EMD 567 powerplant when she got to the Lakes in the 70s. Something many of her siblings did not. Another one of her siblings is famously rotting away in the old boat graveyard in Staten Island New York. She is the biggest and most intact thing there, and is in much worse shape than the Kristin.
I might try to find her sister in Staten Island. I might have found the Mary E. Hannah, she was in rough shape but still afloat and with an embossed placard with her name on it.
Occhio,quella è la zona del sergente…. #chicagopd
Love your vids
Thank you!
Stay away from
I’m from Chicago I’m 29 and have passed by that boat at least a thousand times that has been there since I could remember my dad said it’s been there since like 70s or 80s. I would not trust those old rusted line if they pop you can die if you get hit
A cot?? This kid isnt too bright.
That's why he is a kid! You were a kid once, right?😀
No graffiti whatsoever? Tells me nobody gets on this ship without permission
The whole area is secured and you can’t get in unless you work there.
Ooooooh call the police 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@BodyChamp96 you sound how you 👀 dumb ass hell
Not "captin quarters " its the wheel house.
I had it when I saw the door marked Stairs to Dungeon. No dungeons no dragons for me no no...
That was "stairs to dunnage"! Dunnage is the stuff used to secure cargo in transit like ropes, chains, lumber, nets and that type of stuff.
