WAYS Episode 15 - Living Sober Parts 2 & 3
Greetings all! I am still reading through the book, Living Sober. Today I started out by reading part 2 but it was pretty short so I added on part 3. This sections discuss not drinking that first drink, and just having the goal of not picking up that first drink, and just not drinking for 24-hours. I really love this book, because there is so much I can relate in it. Hope you enjoy. As always if you want to reach out, I can be reached at asonofrecovery@gmail.com. Peace.

Greetings all! So a long time ago, back during COVID, I started this UA-cam page to help my own sobriety during that time and hopefully help others. I read through the AA Big Book everyday, and then I started reading other books, from other perspectives on how to get sober. So, I thought I would start doing that again as well. Not every day, but at least weekly, possibly more, we'll see. Thanks...

    I'm super grateful I came across your channel. I'm in early recovery and living in a sober house. I just moved in 1½ weeks ago so I'm still on restriction. Part of it includes reading a chapter or a story out of the BB each day and writing how you relate or your thoughts..etc My brain is still foggy so listening to you read and following along myself helps 100% cuz I can't seem to read on my own. Thank you and I'll be back to your channel tomorrow!

    One day at a time never worked for me because 15 minutes before the liquor store was about to close I'd say to myself that if im going ro drink tomorrow, what difference does it make if i drink tonight? And then id go out every time. To drink is to die. Think about the misery. 😮

    Hi, my name is dave, I'm an alcoholic from the Twin Cities, and I'd like to thank the uploader who created this video content for creating it. On youtube, Alcoholics Anonymous does have a lot of good audio etcetera mostly for the big book but nobody has anything on the living sober which is so important for the new ones like us or me or whatever. Again thanks to the uploader the living sober is what's going to get me to my 30-day mark because after I got my first 24-hour I only made it about a week

    I just read this story too on my own . I have 64 days sober and I haven’t been this interested to read the stories in the back of the big book like in these recent days. I’m a woman so I thought I could feed that relatable side of this story into myself to spark up more desire to continue to stay stopped. . I relate so much . I also noted the way she mentions salvation … to be save from destruction. So profound . I hope you do more of these . I was able to understand the story even better after you read it . God bless you and thank you for taking this time to speak on this and a bit of your journey.

    I'm the widow of a man who married me despite his fear and died that same year. He was from Detroit AA with a sponsor who had 55 years when I met him on the phone. I never understood how important that moment was to him. He truly lived his vows our four years together when he put the ring on my finger. He met me at a flea market where I was selling books and stopped dead in his tracks. He asked me on a date Sunday afternoon and I met his mother that day. A week later we were engaged 9/11/2010. I have missed him the past 7 years but never read this story in my 16 years of recovery. He just showed me how to do it when he was alive. He died Halloween 2014 leaving me alone my greatest fear: being a widow. But we started a group with his sponsor before he died just the three of us. From that I always supported the start up of groups after my group folded after 6 years. He was able to hospitalize me when the cheese slipped off my cracker. I went through recovery blind without him so I thought until I learned what prayer was in all its different forms. He said he wished he had the step pamphlets from Detroit to show me. All I had was Eminem's Recovery Album to go by. That was enough to understand what I didn't understand walking through fear. Now my third step Prayer is I"M NOT AFRAID and my seventh prayer is CINDERELLA MAN. He connected me to Detroit legacy and my dream was to visit Detroit in 2020. But once again I saw Detroit in the walls of a mental hospital this time as a milieu manager in the suicide/depression unit. I'm back in community with my RCO I started while getting my CDC degree and an active member of my ROSC. Now I'm helping with a membership drive to get our NAACP chapter back up to 63 members for our charter. I just happened to purchase an Audible book of The Big Book. Early Saturday morning I woke up with this story playing. I was shocked what I heard. Someone was telling my life. And then I replayed it from the the beginning and was even more shocked. That was Bill my husband was doing and I never knew he was going by the script of Detroit founder. It blew me away. I shared it at a meeting that night as topic when I chaired. The impact was so amazing to newcomers. They opened up and identified and some long timers agreed what they were struggling with was walking through fear but didn't know about the story either. Amazing, huh?

    This is codependent bullshit. If someone is on a relationship with an abusive drunk then they need to kick them out or get out themselves. This book is nothing but a guide to “how to be a doormat”

    Thanks for including this story. I've been searching for the guy's name, but all I see is "anonymous" so I guess he preferred to keep it to himself. Some years ago, I heard him give his lead at a meeting here in San Francisco. It must have just been a few years after he wrote the story; he did tell us he'd written it. He really looked very young. I got sober at 28yrs, so I enjoyed seeing his story in the 4th Edition. It is one of my favorites as well.

    Thank you for sharing, Sam! I have struggled with addiction and bouts of sobriety for almost a decade but I am new to Recovery Dharma and am definitely drawn to what I’ve learned so far. I struggled to gain benefit from typical 12-Step or NA/AA meetings and what’s frustrating is that those formats are pressed hard onto folks in detox, sober living, etc. I know the program has helped many countless lives and will continue to do so but I know I’m not alone when I say I felt lost in those church halls trying to relate and grasp onto what sobriety I had. I am glad to see there are more alternatives out there as recovery is not one size fits all.

    • @asonofrecovery1790
      @asonofrecovery1790 3 роки тому

      Good morning and welcome! I have known many others who have felt similarly. 12-Step programs are great, and are promoted so much, because they have worked for a lot of people. But, as we all know, that doesn't mean they work for everyone. I love it, but that is just me. I have also found strength and wisdom from other things as well, such as Recovery Dharma. No program claims to be the definitive answer, thankfully. Keep going!

      @@asonofrecovery1790 That’s true! And right, recovery certainly isn’t one size fits all. Something I learned in a 12-Step Meeting a few years back has struck with me since… “take what you need and leave the rest.”
