Here is a Brazilian funk groove inspired by the "partido alto" feel. Some improvisation towards the end..
Funk Samba

Heres a few examples of some samba rhythms used in a funk, rock, or fusion context. The first example uses the left hand playing a samba rhythm between the hip hat and snare. The second example moves the left hand between the snare and floor tom, with a different rhythm. The third one is a fusion samba example between ride, snare, and kick, and the last one incorporates the floor tom as the " S...

Brief solo after putting the Evans Calftone heads on my Bucks County Drums. No miking, just the mic from my Zoom Q3. Not great audio, but gives an idea.

Sextuplet around the drums between hands and feet

Still working on this one. Seems the hardset part is the last "and triplet" of beat four between the right foot, left foot, and right hand on floor tom. Particularly at faster tempo.

My second time watching this video. Outstanding.
Thanks Al, and thanks for the follow! Have to pay more attention to this page in the future. Updated vids coming soon!
@@tomcottone I know right? I've forsaken my YT channel and mainly use as a testing ground.. but seriously, this is excellent music and I found it very interesting to hear you talk about it. Promo it the heck out of it!
Exquisite Tom 👌
A great example of matched grip being just as dynamic & capable as traditional grip. Kudos to Tom. Otherwise, don't play your Calftone heads with rock sticks, heavy hitting will quickly ruin them, they're not very durable; wanton whacking will quickly blister & dent them. 7As or the Peter Erskine signature Ride sticks, & a sensitive touch, are best. CHEERS
had this loopin' while I program in th bg, nice jobs on the discrete moments you've hit this ride cymbal which, perceivably, group together as 1 'job well-done' according to my brain my brain thanks yours
Great flow Tom, you also strike the head properly ,pulling the sound out ... lovely 👌
Great vibe and sound Tom. Came across your playing on Bucks County Drums Instagram. 👌😎

Thanks so much!
Wow man, love your playing. You just sold me on these heads
nice "brushing" dude.bravo
So, what do you think of the heads?
Thanks! It's a Bucks County Drum Company maple/ash kit. 10x8, 12x8, 16x15, 20x16 and 5x14 snare.
tomcottone part of the clarity of tone is coming from the ash more so than the head, disclaimer ;) if you people don't have ash or birch the tone will still be good but different.
Nice playing. What kit is that?
