Highlights of my first expert race! WERA LWT SBK - Talladega GP - 4/13/24
This was my first weekend as an expert and it could not have gone better! I dropped over 3 seconds from my lap times in 2023, down to a 1:05.36. Still riding an old SV650.
That full lap is in this video, along with highlights from the rest of the race.
Brice Deboer came down from Canada, getting ready for MotoAmerica at Road Atlanta, and ran away from the rest of us. Great racing with Blake Werner, learned a lot following him and then trying to stay in front of him after he got ran wide by someone from another class.
Next race is Cycle Jam at Road Atlanta, hoping for similar improvements there but it will be radically tougher! Let's gooooo!!!!

Barber Lightweight Twins Superbike race from July 29, 2023 Technically this was my second race win, the first was earlier in the day in the Formula 2 race, but that one was less eventful. After 15-ish years off and only had a handful of weekends at the track this season, I'm kind of surprised to be up there at all. The home turf advantage definitely played a huge part! I managed a 1:40.635 in p...

    I barley got me a Ducati 821 a 2016 model with 8k miles for 5,200 it came with clear clutch cover a hydraulic clutch a weeks exhaust a tail tidy kit and new rear tire I felt like I was robbing the dude cause he said he’ll take 5k flat but I was ok with 5,200 and for only having 8k miles is crazy

    Well now, this doesn't happen every day! ... Your video of the Monster 821 convinced me! I'm 65 years young, got off a Suzuki TL 1000R and onto a Ducati Monster 1100 Evo which suits my riding comfort needs without ANY sacrifice of the pleasures of being astride a fire breathing mechanical beast that, as you alluded, SPEAKS TO ME. But I desire something a little less maintenance intensive, an acceptable daily to work and back commuter, the 821 & 1200 were on my radar, like you I 'like' the 1200 but just can't really justify it. The 821 then competed in my mind with the 937, ... Long story shorter, your video=821 solid winner! Thank you, subscribed, obviously liked, looking forward to more. PS ~ NOT moving the 1100 Evo on, it's a keeper 2012 with just under 7500 miles🙂

    That is on my bucket list of rides. When I lived in SoCal we had Ortega Highway and Angeles Crest Highway that were famous for nice twisty's, but there were always squids that thought it was a race track and caused a lot of delays when they slid out. Was that a problem on the Tail of the Dragon?

    which would you pick SV650 or MT07???

    • @woodyracing49
      @woodyracing49 Рік тому

      For the street, MT all the way. It's more modern, looks great, sounds great, arguably more just fun to ride on the street. The SV makes a better track/race bike because it's cheaper, more common so everybody has spares, and it's easier to set up for the track. The MTs have really odd geometry and suspensions for the track, you have to do a lot more to make it handle right.

      The GPRs are good, no complaints. This one has probably never been serviced and it's still partially functional but has definitely leaked some fluid out and isn't 100%. The SV doesn't really put it to heavy use, so I'm just riding it as is until the end of the season. I was also just at the Dragon with my MINI Cooper. There are tons of good roads in the area, plan on staying in Fontana or Robbinsville. Also, have a meal at the Tapoco Lodge, fantastic food and biker friendly. Take 28-74 into Bryson City, if its a weekend grab an ice cream at Soda Pops then hit 19 through Cherokee to Maggie Valley and check out the Wheel Through Time museum. There is a ton more to explore in the area, but I think for a short trip, that should be the highlight.

    Hi, im getting the monster 937 and planning to ride like 500 miles. I was told from people around me that during summer, the heat from the engine gets hot and its hitting the legs. Also, since its a naked bike, i will get tired easily. Did you get that experience? The people around me are riding the GS1250 btw.

    • @woodyracing49
      @woodyracing49 Рік тому

      They get pretty hot in stop and go traffic, but on highway trips, it’s not an issue at all. It definitely doesn’t have the wind protection of a GS but I’ve never found it to be a huge issue and, if it does become a problem, there are aftermarket windscreens. I come from sport bikes where the wind gets pushed to your helmet if you’re not in a full race tuck, it’s much more comfortable for me having no windscreen than a short one. I would probably rather have cruise control and a better way to attach bags than more wind protection, but it’s perfectly doable as it is.

    • @soulevolution2735
      @soulevolution2735 Рік тому

      @@woodyracing49 That gets some worries off my chest. So basically it depends on the level of individual's tolerence. I'm fine with naked bikes. It's just probably people's exagerration and trying to convince me into getting the GS. Mind games. Anyway, thanks for replying!

    • @danrzipkin7730
      @danrzipkin7730 Рік тому

      @@soulevolution2735 So much also depends on the kind of riding you frequently do. I owned one bike, a BMW K1200LT that you didn't feel the wind at all. Hit cruise control and turn up the radio. But the this was over 900 pounds and impossible for a relatively small guy like myself to maneuver in my tight and vertical driveway. I prefer to feel the wind over that any day.
