Game is fun 80% of the time, the other 20% is dealing with squad leaders who dont know how to squad lead and refuse to make spawns for the team. This is also usually followed up by a commander who refuses to make spawns, and then it becomes a 5-0 very quickly

Love this angle on psychology! I have my own commandment that I teach every new player that sails with me: never run, always fight. And for several reasons: - About 80% of the player base doesn't really know what they're doing, the chance that you'll run into someone of your own skill level is high. - I recognize that shaky combat footage, I used to be so nervous during battles. My heart would pound, my hands would shake, that's adrenaline. Your opponent is likely to feel as anxious as you. By being the agressor, you can intimidate others into fleeing or making mistakes. I don't agree with Focks' point of not standing out; be a peacock, get translucent sails and colored lights. Blackbeard used showmanship to intimidate his prey too. - And the obvious reason: practice makes perfect. Combat in this game is complicated; you need to know sailing, firing cannons, ammo types, repairing the ship, sword & gun fighting, and you need to know what to prioritize at what moment. This can be overwhelming in the heat of battle but it gets easier over time. And your poor opponent will likely also be scrambling to keep afloat. - Galleons are a scary sight to behold, but they require a coordinated, skilled crew to control. Most galleon crews have 1 or 2 sweatlords, a turd and an empty player slot. They sink to three holes in their lower deck 😅

I started playing recently, after years of owning the game. Have been Slooping with a guy I met on the Discord. It has been the least toxic experience I have had in any game. He is, genuinely, a wholesome guy and it makes even the lows feel like highs. We just had our highest of highs though. We're terrible at PvP, but we decided to go attack a Reaper we saw nearby, after selling our loot before we logged off for some fun. They were definitely better than us and tried sailing circles around us. I pulled my first two Anchor Turns, keeping us from getting CoD'd. It was during the second anchor turn that we lost sight of them around the island we were fighting, but I caught a glimpse of their crows nest. I don't know if it was because they thought they had pulled a fast one on noobs or they panicked, but they stuffed themselves into a small inlet. It was that moment that I made a decision. FULL SEND! I crashed our sloop into theirs, had my duo keep distracting them with cannons, while I snuck up behind them. It shouldn't have gone the way it did, though. They were better than us, for sure, with the snipes they got, while I whiffed all of mine. I sent both of them to the ferryman though. While that was going on, my duo kept cannoning and even manuvered the ship out of the inlet. Then, he sees me come, running and jumping out of the enemy sloop, a Blue Mermaid Gem in my hands, shouting, "I got them both, holy crap. Go, go, go!" He takes off on our sloop, I run around the island, panic tucking and trying to hide, before my partner reminds me I can bury it, while he is being assaulted by the sloop, having gotten free and repaired. He was sunk, but I buried the gem afterwards and mermaided back to our respawned ship. Then, we slowly made our way back. That was the easiest part though, since the other sloop had Reaper Chests, so we didn't need the map to see their general position. And we had done it. We completed our first heist of another crew this evening. Sure, it was a Blue Mermaid Gem and only 1,000 Gold, but you know what? That was *_our_* BMG, stolen fair and square! Hands down, the most fun I have had in a multiplayer game in *_years._* We're gonna nan more goodies now that we've cut our teeth on it, too.

as a primary reaper player with my crew, the tip where if you're funny or interesting most of the time we might really leave you alone.... for a while...

Simulating legally blind soldiers is the worst thing about HLL, and learning to use that fact is the gunfight. There’s lots of tactically realistic shooters where where you don’t feel like you’re blind, such as Squad44, RS2, Isonzo, etc

Just got the Deluxe Edition for sale. Played 4 matches giving me 10 hours in the Combat Zone. Trying to get my eyes trained has been difficult as distance perceptive and my actual field of veiw is way different. 400 meters is an easy target to identify irl for me. But even though there have been a few who were upset with me kind of exploring and gaining my bearings most seem to just know whats going on.
