Let's Compare Nova G3-D with Nagu 10600
I bought this Nagu 10600 on Amazon for around $70. Their add copy claims that it is compatible with Nova G3 for jaws and accessories. Here is the exact ad copy:
"""
Dedicated to fit 1" x 8tpi lathe spindles. Accepts full range of NOVA & Record Power Chuck Accessories
Anti-release spindle lock (reversible); Ensures chuck will stay securely mounted on the lathe during forward and reverse turning applications
Fasten jaws with the included t-bar handle in order to quickly tighten screws and minimize stripping
Jaw provides precision when adjusting your slide alignment and positioning
Open back for easy cleaning and Auto safety stop feature-jaw slides can't protrude past the chuck body.
"""
This seemed like a bold claim, but I wanted a second chuck body because, well who doesn't? I don't enjoy the removing and replacing of 8 screws each time I want to swap jaws. I looked on the secondary market, but even used, people wanted more than $100. So I thought I would give this a try.
No one gave me anything. I spent my own money on all the equipment involved. I am not too proud to accept stuff, but so far, no one has wanted to give me anything :) I am not doing this to endorse any product, merely to show what it is, and how well it does or doesn't match up with the Nova product.
If you can think of any reasonable test to compare these in use let me know. Perhaps I will make a follow up video of it. (No promises... :) )
Just to be sure to say it again, "This video is NOT a paid advertisement, or endorsement, or sponsorship in any way."

This may not be the best way of doing this, nor is it intended as an example of best practices. It is intended as a video to share how I actually did it. It was minimally edited to remove long boring shots of my shoulder when I got in the way of the camera, and also the process of going through the grits of sanding, which I doubt anyone wants to see. Otherwise all cutting is real time. Please u...

    Nice looking soap. I bet you could sell that cutter to many soapers! I love those inexpensive silicone molds. When I want to make a smaller batch of soap or I'm creating a new recipe and design, I'll use that mold. Way back in the day when I first began soap making, I hated lining my wooden molds. Then silicone molds began appearing for baking. I used those expensive baking loaf and cake molds incased in wood for insulation and support, not an ideal fit or soap shape. lol Finally good quality professional silicone/wood molds came to soap makers made from craftsmen like you! Pardon me if I'm assuming incorrectly that you're a cabinet maker from the looks of your shop. Soapers love looking at "soap porn". So if I can make a suggestion, give a close up view of your soap so other soapers can enjoy too.

      @AbsintheOnYT Рік тому

      Sorry to take so long to respond, but I never got a notification :( Thanks for your kind comments and advice. The original "expensive" ones are sort of angled on the sides, and definitely make for some funny looking soap. I have known people to trim them square. But, that seems like more work than it is worth. I do some cabinetry, but quite a few other things as well. You just happened to be in the "cabinetry" angle view of the shop :)

    Just wait for all the soapers to get cross with you... no gloves etc

    • @AbsintheOnYT
      @AbsintheOnYT 3 роки тому

      I believe I addressed that. I never use gloves, but always use eye protection. I am not but a few steps from the sink and I can quickly flush any soap batter or even lye water that I may get splashed on my skin. However, I don't shame anyone who chooses to use gloves or any other PPE for that matter. You have to know what is best for yourself and protect accordingly. Also, some things (like mixing lye in glass) I definitely don't normally do, but in this case I wanted to be able to show the liquid going clear. I think I mention it quite a number of times that this is not how it is supposed to be done. But in making a video, there are some risks that one chooses to take in order to get the correct shot, or visual representation, not unlike removing guards from power tools like table saws. So I do think I have explained how to properly do what I am doing, and effectively warn against things I have specifically chosen not to. Let me know if I have missed any, and I will post a message accordingly. Thanks for the comment. :)

      @@tukicat1399 So far, I have received only positive response on this. I did expect to see issues with the "safety police" but so far I have not, thankfully. Certainly, this is neither a beginner's video, nor a beginner technique. So perhaps those who are interested enough to actually watch it, mostly already know how they choose to use PPE and aren't too concerned with the way I am doing that aspect. Then again, as of right now, it only has 76 views, so perhaps I am not getting enough exposure for people who might make some of those comments to have even seen it. :)

      @@tukicat1399 I am glad you enjoyed it. I have tried to share and explain a few of these ideas to people over the years, but sometimes it helps to make a video. This seemed like one of those times. :) At one point I made a few tutorials and just took a bunch of still pictures and wrote up some text and build a web page. I may revisit a few of those and see how they come out as videos. As for the cooler box, I have found lots of people get concerned when they see the giant bull's eye of partial gel. This will usually assure me that I get full gel. I know other people jump right into the freezer with their soaps to avoid gel altogether, and I can understand how they might like the lighter colors and such, but I am of the opinion that fully gelled soap will resist "melting" when dealing with a little standing wetness. Not sure it really makes that much of a difference, but it is measurable. I do have 3 similar cooler boxes, and they were all free. I couldn't bear to toss them, I just knew that they would come in handy for something, some day :)

    Would a bigger csn give it more bass?

    • @AbsintheOnYT
      @AbsintheOnYT 5 років тому

      The can acts as a resinator, it provides volume. Bass is determined more by the size of the string. When you use a fatter string you get more bass, but less volume so it helps to have a bigger sounding resinator. I did one with a low e string. if the sound check isn't here it is on my Instagram, you can hear the difference.
