Yo this is my shit I be playing this in the car
I was in that band and that was the highlight of my high school musical career. 7th Chair Tuba 👍🏻😎 it was awesome!
I'm the horn soloist and the flute soloist is literally my crush. It seems the planets have aligned.
I want to write a song to this one day!!!!
I got to play bass clarinet on this in high school. Still one of my favorite pieces of music. I miss band so much. I'm glad I met so many great people in band and my husband. This song will forever stay in my heart. ❤
my friend luyndasy said ooh damn damn
Currently learning the marimba and toms part for this song and I can officially say I'm terrified, but extremely excited because this sounds AMAZING! It's going to be hard to get used to it switching from 4/4 to 7/8 but I still can't wait.
I PLAYED THE MARACAS @1:06 THE SCORE WENT FROM 7/8 TO LIKE 2/2 TIMING, VERY COOL!
I still remember playing this freshman year of high school. Tam tam for the win!
I preformed this at my final high school concert on 5/12/22. My band director who I’ve know for 14 years of my life announced his retirement in April and this was the last song we got to play. Half the band couldn’t even keep it together we were all crying. Even the most hardened unbreakable people were breaking down. At the start of the piano solo at 4:51 our director slowly put his arms down and looked up into the sky his face completely soaked with tears. The entire band crying together as the beautiful piano solo concluded not just my high school career as a musician, but the career of a man whose been teaching in the district for 27 years. Elementary, middle, and high-school. A man whose touched the lives of thousands upon thousands of kids over the year and had left a bigger impact on our small community than anyone I could ever think of. I simply can not think of a better end🥲
There's something about this song that is such a good finale. I had one more year left, but for some reason I feel this deep, I dont know, sadness? Listening to this song. Like it was the end of something great. It was the last song I played that year, last time with my friend too. I don't want to call it sad, maybe emotional. But I totally understand what you meant, and I'm genuinely distraught over the end. It was a different time then, and its gone unfortunately, but those are the things that make you who you are
These days aren't coming back... I came in two years later in 2009. The memory of these days feels just like memories of 'the one that got away'. I didn't know how wonderful these experiences were until they were all over.
1:48 2:59
does anyone have alto sax part 1 they can share? I cant find mine and just want to play it recreationally on my own, not for a performance
This is the most beautiful song I have ever heard in my entire life. It brings tears to my eyes and fills me with so much emotion.
We were going to play this for UIL competition but then corona hit 😢
Lol they sound better than Mississippi State University band
agreed
This isn't a symphony; it's a cacophony. Possibly the worst piece I've ever performed. 5:08 No real music theorist could tell me what tf happening. In fact, their best postulation would be that Ogren let some random-ass 2-year-old start writing the shit for him, with the random-ass trumpet claptraps and euphonium rubbish. Never write music again, Ogren, for the sake of our ears. But this all is just modern symphonic music.
Does anyone know the story that the piece is telling? I'm the horn soloist for this piece and I want to convey the story it's trying to tell, plus it's more personal if you know the story of the piece. This piece reminds of Fantasy of a Japanese Folk Song by Samuel Hazo: two lovers are torn because one misses home and wants to go back and the other is convincing her not to. Percussion instrument are used to symbolize certain things, such as the drums that are her heart beat, or the horn solo that represents the boys fear of losing the girl, and the flute soloist represent the girls longing for home and sadness. It was much more personal to listen to it knowing the story 😊
Easily one of my favorite songs we played in middle school. The swells felt so nice in your chest. We played this in DC and lots of the audience cried at its beauty. This song will forever remain in my heart
Just played the horn solo of this piece, one of the best songs for sweet French Horn playing out there next to “ One Life Beautiful” and “ A Basque Lullaby”
If you've ever played this song, then you know about letter r. Start at letter r because that's my favorite spot in the whole song because our band director had to make weird faces every time the brass and low woodwinds got louder. He even did the faces during concert. Lol.
Also who else has this song memorized because your band director wanted you to play the song near to perfection?
Imagine making kids march to this song 'cause even trying to walk to the beat of this song is nearly impossible.
Played 1st clarinet on this piece for UND Honor Band this year. Absolutely loved this piece
My daughter had to leave her first chair clarinet seat to play the piano for this piece. Musically talented humans are a different breed. I love you all so much!
Definetly my favorite piece I ever played in band. Heritage Wind Symphony plays this tomorrow for district band festival, and I am playing the bass clarinet part. 125 needs more of the bass clarinet/baritone part heard.
As a tuba player I found this quite soothing for my needs to play loud with beautiful sound😍
Middle school memories right here. when my school band wasnt shit. 2nd place only behind a performing arts high school and by half a point.
I genuinely cried when I heard this song again I played it in 7th grade and it was so great
I can't say enough about this piece. I had the relatively boring trombone part, and it is still one of my favorite pieces I've played
This is actually the TMEA 5A Honor all region band, I was there for the symphonic band.
My band played this for our spring concert and my band director cried, it’s such a beautiful song
Gonna buy the score so my band director has to let us play it. Better work...
This is very Peaceful and is it just me or does somewhere when the middle sound like Jurassic Park?
I'll never forget getting this music. My director for whatever reason didn't have the 1st horn part so I played off the score. I nearly crapped my pants when I first looked at it. One of the most rewarding pieces I played in high school.
Kinda upset my part is almost entirely rests (I'm euphonium) but that means I get to listen to this up close and personal
Indigo Azai anything fun in the euphonium part? I just found out we’re playing this beautiful song this year and I’m one of the two euphoniums in our band.
@@finalolympian6912 It's been about 3 years but if I recall correctly, euphonium gets some of the parts at 2:10~2:40 and 3:20~4:30. Everything else is either rests and just a sprinkle of whole notes
Mallet players needed softer mallets
We’re playing this for our Spring concert
It sounds like a character death scene, and a major one at that, with the tragic sobs. We’re playing this for our MPAs, and our Flautist and French Hornist are soooo amazing!
love the flute solo and horn solo. when they come together (we are one) it’s so beautiful
Our all region band just played this last night.
I played this last year for UIL. I'm kind of bad of tonguing things quickly, (I play oboe, and that was mostly in the very beginning), so yeah, it was a little challenging, but I still had fun doing the oboe solo! But it's too bad you can't hear the oboe solo very well in this recording because the trumpet kind of overpowers it...
@@eniiif so sorry that I didn't reply sooner, didn't see your comment. However, my best advice would be to really take it slow and gradually practice at faster tempos. Think about using fewer taste buds on your tongue; that helps to make it feel less sluggish. Also, using faster air helped me greatly. Good luck and have fun! P.S. It's kind of obvious since oboe depends on this, but making sure you have good reeds is always a priority.
The most emotional piece of music I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. This song captures what it's like to love. To be human. To really *feel* . I will never not cry listening to this...
I got to play trombone for this in my high school band. It's an amazing song!
Me too mate! First chair this year in Wind Ensemble!
Really good, maybe of the non-melody parts stood out more. My favorite part of this piece is being able to hear so many parts at once.
I played this in seventh grade. The clarinet entrance at 0:45 was so fun.
WHY ARE THE CLARINETS PLAYING THE FRENCH HORN CUE NOTES! 3:29
Probably because the french horns weren't able to play the part strong enough
I PLAYED IT IN SEVENTH GRADE TO OMG! I was the snare player
Seventh grade? Really advanced piece for seventh graders
just played this yesterday, small band, we played the ques because its just 3 clarinets and 2 horns. 7th grade for this is quite impressive. COVID set everybody back though, so either you were really advanced 7th graders or it sounded horrible lol.@@connorgibson4528
we took this piece to state and they said it was one of their favorite performances of it
I just played this in band!
This my favorite band song that I have ever played #euphonium
This is by far my favorite piece that I have played.
