I don't think we are completely misdirected. Margaret says in the story he isn't sure which one is Stan and he goes on to then count off each person with Lucas. That is when I figured out who he was. That is misdirection for pre-war France, though. Hope you will do more Maigret stories!

Your teeth coming in are painful -- but they're just as painful coming out as well.😅 I've said it many times before but I'll say it one more time: I love the commentary, the sleeping dogs, the page turnings and the teething grandchild. I wouldn't take your channel any other way. As for the story I knew it would be good, being one of your narrations, but this one felt even more immersive. I thoroughly enjoyed the foreign (to me) aspect along with all the incredible accents -- as well as the dry humor so rarely featured in American boilers. To this homogenized American, the old Paris Ghetto holds quite a bit of romance. As always, thank you so much for your time and hard work. Love to Sheila, the dogs, kids, grand-kids, the scrapman, random parakeets and everyone else whose generosity forms the part of you that your audience has the good sense to engage with. Live long, Tony Walker.

I actually think Christie was trying to make a comment about older men pursuing younger women for sex by painting his inner thoughts about her as rather absurd. He mourned the loss of her 17 year old beauty in a way that gives Lolita vibes. Agatha Christie was nearly 40 when she wrote this, I rather doubt that she agreed with the protagonist's pov.

Hey Tony! I really enjoy everything you did on the segment. How you were explaining about the history of the authors and the difference in U.S. vs. European detectives. Also, I like that you mess up about, "You want women". Funny! Please repeat information, since I can not remember things well. Also, the narrator, was good, I would mind listening to him again. Nothing to be critical about. Please continue. I like listening to these. Thank you!

I don't think she withholds information from the reader. There are no sudden strangers who appear at the end. She puts in all the clues, but does not give the proper interpretation, often allowing a character like Hastings to express an incorrect meaning, Even in Roger Ackroyd, she has the doctor say, "I did what needed to be done...." without spelling out the specifics. I love the way she fools me, sometimes even on re-reading. But when l do remember the murderer, it's fun to re-read and see how skillfully she constructs the plot. She was an amazing writer!

Speaking of class dynamics, the British couldn’t do it better. The British BBC did a beautiful series on “The Plantagenets” that I’m pretty sure is free to watch today. It was filmed as a series in the seventies I think. Although Canadian, I lived in England for two years and I enjoyed all of their shows and mini-series they did - wonderful actors ! 🙏❤🫠

Good story, well narrated. Thank you, Michael, for narrating. Thank you, Tony, for coordinating. The audio seemed to have an annoying (to me) echo, as if recorded in an empty room or a tunnel. These things happen. We get through and move on. I did wonder, briefly if the echo was connected to the TBI; however, I listened to other videos with no echo.

Love this-true hard boiled! Of course, there is the dick that can write down the number plate number without taking his hand out of his pocket, a pistol-firing flapper, in San Francisco with a view of Twin Peaks, who overpowers her gangster boyfriend and at the same time bamboozling her bent, tycoon dad into giving her precisely what she wants and all the while out maneuvering the press. Brilliant! Great narration with all those different voices! Thanks to both of you, Michael, Tony, for a very enjoyable experience!!!!!
