Depends on what you want and what its going into. There are a few “off the shelf” options for top mount and bottom mount manifolds. Some custom work may need to be done depending on your setup. Im currently running a spa bottom mount on my new build. As for the rs3 turbo, you could use that but would have a buy a manifold adapter to make it work. Those are also usually much more expensive than a regular turbo and manifold setup.

Its just like the 02q swap on the 2.5l. Only requires you to shave an 1/8 inch off the top of the bell housing. Other than that its direct bolt up. Couple different options for clutch setups that are “oe”. The front diff bracket to the engine will need to be modified or custom made, but there are threaded areas on the 2.5 block in that area.

If you can understand wiring diagrams and can re-pin some connections the swap is basically plug and play. Only modifications are moving some wires around. Engine and trans fit the same, radiator and condenser may need to be swapped for a 2.5 style, along with some small stuff. I have a write up for the swap linked in my instagram bio.

Its the same motor. Just bolt on parts.

The engine has stock internals. Not sure how much power it had but somewhere around 250-275hp

Lol im working on it. Unlike others i do not have an endless budget and it is an ongoing project. I am gathering more content and working on new videos. Plugs were gapped properly. Misfire was due to a bad fuel pump.

If you’re worried about blowing an engine, i wouldnt be unless you are trying to run over 400hp on stock internals. As for reliability you may run into a few more repairs due to there being more parts involved in a turbo setup, so more places for things to go wrong. My advice is dont cheap out too much. Usually the cheap parts are the first things that will need to be fixed again. Ive never blown an engine, ive blown some seals but that was my own fault for bad pcv plumbing. Not sure what im at for power havnt got it on a dyno yet but my guess is just under 300hp and im only running like 10/11psi. If you want reliable id stick to lower boost levels sub 14psi. Thats safe for stock intake mani and stock internals. And if you do somehow manage to blow an engine they tend to be only a couple hundred buck for a replacement engine.

These engines are amazing boosted or not. Ive never had any major engine issues in all my 5 years of owning 2.5s. They take a beating and you shouldn’t ever have to do head-gaskets or timing chains in them. Best of luck!

I’ve put 40k miles on my jetta and I’ve not been easy on it, I haven’t done a single repair to it other than a windshield wiper motor lol. 2.5s are amazing

SPA has a few things for the 2.5s like manifolds and internals. IE also has a fair amount of stuff too.

It was only like that temporarily it now fully latches. But hey thats what its there for right lol

For my first build i had a tune from 034 and it was a mail in flash tune. They never did any refinements for me and the tune could have used it. Thats was the low boost one tho. My current build is bought a used ecu with a um tune and um told me they dont tune for turbo size or boost pressure so refinements wouldn’t have to be made. If you’re able to get a dyno tune for your specific setup thats the best way.

The engine setup lives on today in another shell and i still have that old shell so in a way yes.

Not the car/build i really wanted. It is cool and one of a kind buts its not me. Cant afford to keep up with body maintenance costs of a golf r and i like the mkv platform more than mk6. My buddy is the one who actually owns it and still does but he also cant afford the loan payments on it anymore.

The R actually belongs to my buddy, i did the swap for him and changed my mind about buying it. Its not what i really want. The gti was my original build that the r motor came from and still the car i love the most.

Spa exhaust manifold, precision 5858 turbo, ie intake manifold, fmic, 550cc injectors, um tune. Stock engine internals and a couple little things. Ill make a more in depth video down the line talking about everything specifically on this current build.

Stock manifold works ok for low boost applications. Will limit power obviously. Not all mk6 2.5s are hydro but they can be modified to work. Spa also just made a aftermarket manifold to work with hydro setups.

10 lbs of boost is the max for stock intake manifold. That should give you around 300 hp .

Ive seen people run 15+psi on a stock intake mani. I used to run 14. Just not recommended for anything higher because it will be a power loss. Its possible just not recommended for obvious reasons.

Im not sure, dont know much about that platform. The mk6 2.5s have the same ecu connector as the mk5 2.0t. Just needs to be repinned. Im not sure what ecu the mk6 2.0s have. Engine mount will have to be from a 2.5 but should bolt to the frame just like the old. Trans mount will be the same for whichever trans you’re using (5spd/6spd).

Honestly id recommend the spa turbo manifold if you’re ok with doing a bottom mount. Its a good price and good design, but here i did a customer log manifold using the factory manifold. And yes you can tune the stock ecu, some people move to standalone if swapping into a different shell or like a racing setup for more customization ability.

Not easy to get a tune for a boosted auto. Im sure its possible but likely not worth it. But idk i dont drive any autos.

I used a factory harness and ecu. Just had to repin the ecu and the engine bay connector. Now sure which version of the 2.0 you have. That might change some things. This R had the older style 2.0 with the oil filter on the bottom. Wiring might be slightly different on the newer style, not sure.

Yeah I have a MK6 R filter on the bottom with basically fSI motor. So you used the factory R ecu and harness or pulled it from a 07k car?

Factory harness and ecu from the 07k. Body side of the ecu connector will have to be repinned. Depending on if you use a mkv or mk6 2.5 you may have to replace the ecu connector or just have to repin it. I have a swap guide on my insta that give alot of info on it.
