Today I am out exploring with my friend and fellow spring enthusiast Josh, We originally came to this trail to search for a hidden spring, but when we got about a ¼ mile from the spring, the swamp was just too dense and we decided to save it for another day. We didn’t want to waste a trip, so we quickly pivoted and decided to see if we can find WELL C. This is the first Well I searched for, but missed it due to incorrect coordinates. This time I’m equipped with my Garmin 66i and what I believe are more accurate coordinates. So we are heading down the trail and hope to find the Well before the sun goes down.
This Portion of town is the tail end of the home steads, I like to think of it as the back of the neighborhood. There were clusters of homes leading up to this area, dating from the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. The old road we hiked down was a common road that lead to this well. It’s possible this could have been one of the main sources of water for the locals as the other wells on the map were located in more of the agricultural parts of town. The Barbwire fence we crossed has clearly been there for a long time as the posts were rotted and the wire itself was grown into the pine tree and pulled about 4ft higher than the fence line. These small traces of history help, they’re all indications that I’m getting closer to my desired target. Well C
