My oil filter housing completely gave out and dump almost all my oil, this caused a bunch of codes to pop up regarding intermittent signals, will this go away once I clean up and replace the housing or does this mean wires may have shorted out or failed due to the oil? and is that tin foil around the wires?

Note for anyone doing this themselves - a "universal ball joint separator"-sized pickle fork was too large to remove my 2013 Elantra ball joints. The smaller "tie rod end" pickle fork may have worked, but I ended up just using a 3/4" jaw-style ball joint separator instead. And that 130ft-lb-spec bolt on the hockey puck end of the control arm? Multiply it by 2 or 3 for what to really expect if the car was driven in snow or rain. Even after soaking both ends of that bolt in PB Blaster overnight, I BROKE a 1/2" ratchet with a 19mm socket on it before I jacked the car up to the moon to fit a giant 1080ft-lb rated HF corded 1/2" impact pointing straight up under the car to finally break that 19mm bolt free. And by all means, get yourself a ratcheting box end 19mm (and 17mm, and probably a 3/4" too) for this whole job if you value your time at all. I also highly recommend replacing he tie rods while you're replacing the control arm! The OEM inner tie rods have no flats and Hyundai used thread locker AND a barely visible/accessible snap ring to hold it in place. It's a heck of a lot easier to get to all that crap with the control arm already removed. In fact, I don't know how you'd do the job with the control arms still in place. I couldn't have anyway. Also know that a pipe-style inner tie rod tool does not work at all on the OEM inner rods (because there are no flats for it to grip) and the commonly used U-Bolt clamp tool for inner rods without flats didn't work for me either because it couldn't grip hard enough for the borderline-insane amount of force it required to break those loose. With the control arm out, you can turn the steering wheel all the way in the appropriate direction to access that snap ring and also make the inner rod cone accessible to a (big) pipe wrench. A big pipe wrench was only tool I found that could break the OEM inner rods loose, and there's no way you get a pipe wrench or anything like it on that inner rod cone with the lower control arm still in place. So do both the rods and the control arm at the same time or you'll end up doing the control arm again when you ruin the ball joint removing it to do the tie rods.

if you’re gonna do this repair, for your sake replace the housing with an aluminum model. the reason these leak is because the plastic oil housing warps over time from repeated temperature cycles causing the o ring gaskets on the bottom to no longer be effective. dorman makes a good part for this and if you look around i believe you can find the aluminum housing being sold on it’s own without a cooler so that you can reuse your old one and save money

But if doesn’t go away it may be something more severe like if you accidentally dropped something inside the intake and exhaust ports but you can tell if you vehicle has a misfire. I hope not!!😬 but anyways ,let me know if your vehicle did well or not. Greetings!

Very clear instructions! I was searching like crazy to find the wiper/ wash relay. I've got an issue where it wipes/ washes the rear window (Corolla E12 hatch), but not the front. So the fuse(s) should be okay, it left me with either a bad relay or a defective switch. I guess that's two for one 🙂. Thank you, saved me a lot of time in unnecessary diagnosis 🙏🏻

THANK YOU! This saved me a large repair at a BMW dealer. Just note: that if you have blind-spot warning and a camera in the mirror, you must be VERY careful with the electrical connectors. The blind-spot warning light is just two very thin wires and a very hard-to-remove connector. In my case, I munged the connector a bit and that set off a blind-spot malfunction error in the car. Letting the car deep sleep overnight corrected that issue.

Then, I go and try to start it and first try it starts right up. This happened about a month and half ago and then again three days ago. Last night it rained hard and this morning when I went to start it? Bingo. Started right up. Any ideas? Six months ago a mechanic said there was a corroded wire that he replaced.
