I lived in Elizabeth City, NC about 20 miles from Hertford. My dad always bought his cars from Towe Motor Co in Hertford. Loved eating at Glen's Place and White's BBQ. A sliced BBQ sandwich, fries and a 7 Up. Those were the days.

How come no one will come and cleaning the yard

I visited Hertford a few months ago so I could visit Catfish Hunter's grave and museum. It's crazy how many abandoned houses and buildings there are in Hertford. Hopefully they clean up the town soon. There still are some very nice areas in the area where houses are worth $500,000 and up.

Hey Clay, Happy to find your channel. I am a child of the piedmont. In 1969 a band of gypsies posing as my family kidnapped me, left me sequestered me on a faraway south sea island (Hawaii). But for strong spirits and wayward women, I am unable to return. Your channel is very nice visit home. Visit Duplin County. Look for the Guy cemetery. As time went on family moved up river to fresh soil. Anyway, Thank you my Tar Heeled brother.

1978 is the year the first Halloween movie came out, perhaps this is the house Michael Myers did all his killings at, and that's why everything ended suddenly.

I wish he would have been able to talk more about the house & it’s contents: approx age, what type it is (Victorian, etc) point out that it has been electrified ( depending on age), is the would on the walls, shiplap, make & age of the stove & TV, what does it mean if there is clothes in the dresser, there were 2 signs indicating a gallery & he said there was art - any connection, etc

So many of the small towns in West Virginia are just like this.

I took my family to Chimney Rock mountain in North Carolina. There is another mountain directly across the river. No one could tell me the name of the other mountain. Our beautiful cabin was at the base of the unnamed mountain. We decided to go up the unnamed mountain. It got dark. We encountered a small ghost town. I am from New York City. I decided to not be in a slasher movie and turned my giant SUV with my family around on a Mountain Road. 😊😮. I love the Chimney Rock Inn and am looking to go back but like most tourist attractions I will not venture off exploring. ⛰

Nice to see someone recording the history before it all goes back to nature. I'm in SC at the opposite end of NC. Most of the towns established here remain, though some have lost their 'city' status and are just communities now. Some bigger towns got hurt badly when textiles died and are just a shell of what they once were. On a cross-country trip back in '91 I saw a lot of dying small towns in the great plains along the backroads whose economic reason for existing was no longer valid. I'm guessing many of the towns are empty now. Good buildings, good roads, no people and no real reason for anyone to be there anymore. Kind of sad watching life fade away like that.

So basically the outer banks and they discovered hurricanes suck. Fair assessment.

Family probably signed it over to the land trust to avoid paying taxes. Can't build anything on it after that.
