How much shadowing experience/ hours should an applicant have to be competitive for the applications?
There aren't any specific hours! What is important is your reflections and how you present them in your personal statement.
Can you do a video on UCAT preparation?
You are free to ask me any questions on UCAT! Due to time constraints, I won't be able to do one on UCAT. But stay tuned for videos on medicine interview!
@@Guidenotguru how to get better at abstract reasoning? I find it the hardest section and time is just so limited.
@@maggieisamix When I did it, I used the SCANS mnemonic and once AR started I just wrote down all the SCANS in details on my white board, and so I had sth to reference from.
Did you get offers from all unis you applied to? I'm in Y11 also from HK so need desparate advice

Does your personal statement have the top 3% score? How did you find out your PS score?
Sorry if I made it unclear! I was admitted to UCL Medicine as an international student so the acceptance rate is roughly 3%.
Hi Adam this is such a useful vid thanks, one question about work experience tho: if i am writing about specific cases i witnessed during shadowing how do i ensure that i don't breach patient confidentiality? like would including age or sex of the patient be a problem or should i go more general?
@@alliiicccceeeee you can be specific with 1. the disease 2. the treatment of the disease but do not disclose the 1. name 2. age! e.g. ❌ “i observed a 59-year-old patient called Alice who has hypertension, and she worried about her condition” ✅ “during my shadowing, i observed a patient with sleep apnea. while the patient was worried of having hypertension, the cardiologist comforted her and proposed ACE inhibitors as a treatment. This allowed me to understand that compassion is important to build a robust doctor patient rapport, which is crucial to build trust in facilitating clinical outcomes.”

I have to have my PS done by October. I have done significant academic research into stem cells and neurological disorders but I see that you have been more proactive, such as doing RNA sequence analysis yourself. I am actually writing a research project ATM. Do you have any advice for me? Anything actionable I can do in the next 30 days on the side that will be as influential to my application as that?
Hey, thanks for commenting! What do you mean by "academic research"? The personal statement places more focus on critical reflection and thoughts than having a research project intrinsically. Would you be looking forward to a video where I share how you could incorporate research experience into the PS?
