I’ve bought a ton of these little drawer and cubby units… I paint them all white and have puzzle pieced them onto the wall in my studio and use them to sort and store all my little goodies!!!

I like leaving the card revealed! Otherwise there’s no point using cards as the substrate! I’d even go further and let each card inspire the alterations & additions! Like an Ace might feature a plane (flying ace) or a 2 features a couple… etc.

Wow, I'm 70 years-old and I have NEVER seen butcher paper in the markets on the west coast where I live! From the looks of it, the closest thing I come across is paper bags or packing paper (or even the brown gift wrapping paper on tubes). I do save and use those things in my journals. A 'secret' I've come across is the 25-50 pound bulk bags which are often two or three layers thick. The inner layers(s) are usually heavy brown paper, and the outer layer is white with the writing on it. One can get many sheets of paper from the bags, and I use even the outside layer with writing on it in my junk journals.
