I think Super is attempting to pivot away from a simple "higher power = winning" view to a more nuanced outlook that factors in technique and energy control, evidenced by Vegeta's recent admission that he, Goku and Jiren were physically in a similar range power-wise, but that Jiren had superior control of his energy. I think this concept, in addition to Whis' advice that Goku train to use the technique of Ultra Instinct without the transformation, suggests Super is taking a multifactored approach to scaling. Or that's all just a cope and Dragon Ball doesn't have nor has ever had good and consistent writing.

The "Goku doesn't know what kissing is" bit occurs in both the Super anime and manga, so it was likely a joke Toriyama specifically requested to be included, so that's another example of Toriyama's sense of humor screwing with characters because he found it funny.

Honestly only a few changes need to be made for the humans to have some spotlight without affecting the plot. Have em learn kaioken while on king kais. Tien gets his moment against semi perfect cell. Have krillin and yamcha encounter imperfect cell after piccolo because he wants their ki. Have em use clever techniques and combos to injure him and flee. Then in buu, tien is training for the martial arts tournament. Since hes been training for 7 years, he has a noticeable Ki and gets attacked by dabura. Have him put up a fight, lose, get his energy stolen, then stoned which explains why hes not involved for a bit. Buu has an issue with lack of minor antagonists so keep dabura around slightly longer, and piccolo and krillin together as revenge for becoming stones and a throwback to their teamup vs nappa. take him down while gohan fights buu. Tien reunites with em. Then all the z fighters could pass in fighting skills and techniques to goten and trunks. They have a last stand against super buu when piccolo and gotenks are trapped. Note that Chichi is one of the few characters that can ride Kintoun, which denotes pure heart. Her negative sides come from being overprotective with Gohan, and a little bit old-fashioned-countryside in mindset. Everything else points her towards being a likable wife who loves her husband. Considering everything that happens to Gohan in the Sayan saga, I can understand a mother reacting like that. I don't think that's the REAL Chichi, like this video perfectly explains.

The only real problem with chichi is that she keeps trying to have a normal life (at least by traditional Japanese standards) with someone like Goku, who’s the polar opposite of that.

Chi-Chi is a genuinely loving wife and mother with big anger issues. In that aspect, Goku is the perfect husband for her, because he understands her well enough not to take her outbursts to heart. Even though he's often the cause of the outbursts.

well i mean vegeta can be argued to work/train harder NOW. but the thing is goku trains SMARTER. he comes up with new ways to train, finds new tools and methods to take advantage of, whereas vegeta just copies goku and works himself to the bone for very little benefit, its the idea of too much of a good thing

Regarding the kissing joke in super, my head cannon is that Goku is actively messing with Vegeta by acting dumb. A lot of Goku's dumb moments involve Vegeta almost having an aneurysm after all. He was shown to be training with King Kai at the beginning of battle of gods, so I think he's been training his comedy too.

Glad to see some Chichi appreciation. As a kid she annoyed me, but as an adult I appreciate her as the GOAT wife she is - she cooks well, helped Gohan to pursue his academic dreams, trained goten and stayed loyal to Goku throughout all his deaths and resurrections. Probably not the best written character, i think Bulma is a way better written character, but the hate for her is too much.

The more I grow in age, the more I empathize with Chichi. Try viewing the series from her POV makes everything she does perfectly understandable. Hell, if anything I'd say she is still way more lenient than most parent would be if they were in her shoes.

Hating Chichi is stupid and misogynistic. Why? She's a mother whose husband is regularly either dead or in the process of dying again. She had him dead and her 4 year old son kidnapped by his arch enemy. After not seeing your little kid for a year, how do you think you'd feel or act? After said kid almost died. On top of that allegoricaly speaking: Chichi is married to a very powerful man, he can and does literally do what he wants, always and she doesn't have a say in it. And when she at least wants to protect her son and keep him from pursuing the same often destructive path his father is on, she is hated on and Goku literally sends her flying once ... Sure that was a mistake, you could say he pulled a Johnny Depp on her ... yet he wasn't even drunk. Now this is of course a series about buff men and aliens punching each other, which is fine. But in such a world, where women have basically no agency whatsoever, since the men hold all the power, and they only serve as utility to the men (bulma through her inventions and her technical know how, Chichi through her reproductive labour and 18 as a prop for cell to become stronger), when a woman tries to enforce her own will upon this world even a little bit, she gets all the hate from a mostly male audience. It's a trope as old as ancient greek. Literally. Socrates wife became the annoying, nagging wife poster child. But in reality during that time women were viewed as 2nd class humans, they were not allowed to vote and Xantiphe surely wasn't able to survive by herself. She definitely had a lot to complain about. So ask yourselves, is that representation in media just a fluke, or does it say something about our real world, that we treat women like Chichi so poorly? Perhaps she is insufferable, but perhaps if you take a minute to emphasize with her position, you'd see why and wouldn't be so mad that she isn't just providing unconditional love and assistance to Goku.

Toriyama himself stated that he doesn’t like Chi-Chi, hence her character. And in Super she reverted back to that early Z behavior with only a couple of moments when she’s not obnoxious as exceptions. The very reason Toriyama even put those two together is to force himself to draw her as a sort of punishment. It’s really unfortunate, because Chi-Chi could have been better or Toriyama could have simply chosen another girl ( Bulma was right there too, but there was also Suno. Or simply wait until later and use that as a character growth arc for Goku )
