I Read (Donna Murphy in Passion)
Переглядів 86 тис.13 років тому
the town is remote, isn't it? and provincial, don't you think? not mine, no infringement intended, just wanted to share the whole of this beautiful scene.
Inception, Interstellar, Footloose.
Breaking the barriers once more of what theatre is capable of, thnk you mr Sondheim (and his incredible performers). Donna Murphy is one of the pearls inside the oyster.
“You should have kept the book longer to meditate over.” Who talks like this lol.
Meditate means to think deeply or carefully about something.
@@user-rh2io7gm1l I’m aware what meditate means lol
Trust me: I saw Donna live onstage in this. She weaved a spell. It's not that others can't sing it, pretty much anyone can sing it. It's the very specific physical acting that informed the inner life she gave the character, the peculiarity she gave to it, and the very unique singing voice of being frail and beautiful and lovely sounding and the next moment a belt that would scare you because of her intensity. She really was a tour de force.
i'm going through a period of deep melancholy ...
the genius of Sondheim. Murphy is more than outstanding.
This is a wonderful play. This actress is so good.
I find that a lot of Sondheim’s works require specific phrasings/delivery to make an ethereal impact. I always thought Donna Murphy destroyed future revivals of “Passion” because I don’t think anyone could do Fosca justice other than Donna. The way she immersed herself in the rope and sang the songs with such care and delivery….simply flawless.
Couldn’t agree more. Some roles are just completely claimed. Barbra in FG, Patti in Evita, Collum in Shenandoah, etc. There’s just no point in mounting these shows without them.
Honestly, Clara by Marin too.
Not really. Just requires talent and honesty.
1:53 I read
Epitome of a Siren
I remember working front of house for Passion. I loooved it. Always.
I saw this on Broadway when it was in previews. Sondheim's melodies and words never disappoint. Donna Murphy was incredible.
This is truly one of the best if not the best ever performances in history. Donna was Simply breathtaking in this role. Nobody comes near
So I'm a contralto who's more an actor than singer and I have to sing her music for a Sondheim assignment. I'm a little terrified
You can do it!
That chick is a dude.
The sister? I mean, yeah. Brenda strong, no. 🤦🏾♀️
Wow. She’s marvelous.
I have only just discovered this video and I am wiping the tears from my face. What a performance! So touching and real.
?
I like the way she reads. I like my life, but living the life of characters through a book is just so exciting. I do try to take lessons from it too, though.
She is UN.REAL. GEEZ.
And by the way it is physically impossible to cry and sing at the same time but THOSE ARE REAL TEARSon her cheeks.😲😲😲
I wanted to kiss her feet after seeing this. Brilliant. Inspiring.
Just cuz we all need it 4:27
She’s not an actress, she’s an ARTIST!!!
Watching this again and again 'till we got to 2020 :') ... I'm sorry Ms. LuPone but Donna Murphy S L A Y E D
Anyone find this version by her recorded?
What a beautiful haunting version! Wish there was a full version!
Still mad this show never gained traction. It's fantastic. I bought the soundtrack all the way from Poland because it's nowhere else!! So worthwhile though. This is such a fantastic show.
God. Her voice is angelic and hypnotic at the same time. If I were in Tommy's place and the dream didn't end horribly like Tommy's did, I'd be happy to be near that woman. She must have such a warm and welcoming energy about her in my opinion as well as her voice. Plus her body is something cool to write home about too. After coming to sit near her, we'd embrace and smooch it out like a bride and groom do after hearing they were officially made husband and wife by the grace and love of God. Or gods since the Christian God isn't the only one around in religion. After parting lips from one another, I'd ask if I may rest on her lap or her chest. It would be chest for me so as to not only hear her sing Bali Ha'i, but hear her goddess like heart beating rhythmically as much warmth and gentle love as her lovely voice. Sending me to sleep like a lullaby would. Course she'd also play with my hair while I wrapped an arm around her. But of course, that's my idea and interpretation of this clip from 3rd Rock from the Sun. Anyway, this maybe an old video from 9 years ago, but thank you for uploading this wonderful clip from NBC's beloved sitcom. Besides, I've been recently watching reruns of 3rd Rock from the Sun on LaffTV lately and man, this show had almost the same wit as Frasier. Still, a fine gem of a sitcom from the 90s.
Issa a man
@@sambo314 Yeah, I know what you mean now. It was Tommy's dream so Harry springing up to turn it into a nightmare and wake him up makes sense. I was just saying if it was just this part of the dream and not Brenda Strong morphing into French Stewart. Just a good dream like that with no change into a nightmare, that's all.
I adore and love Sondheim he is genius of theatre and song and Broadway
Thank you.
Will this ever be a film or is it impossible to find any Fosca better than Donna?
This version was pro shot and you can purchase it. It’s out of print now but there are copies on eBay. I don’t think there will ever be another Fosca that will come close to this masterful and gorgeous performance from Donna Murphy. It’s perfection.
It's funny she'd played sexy prostitutes in two shows back to back right before getting cast in this!
Truth is hardly what I need
Does anyone also think of Laura Benanti’s Halloween story when listening to this?
Maya Davis-Goodstein yes, the answer is yes.
Z Botello 😊👍🏽cool
Came here after listening to that story 😂
this is art. donna murphy brought every part of herself to fosca and it shows.
Am sorry , I just discovered that I made a thumb down to this wonderful song , it must be by accident , it is one of my favorites ❤
Biscuits
oh my god WIG
Thomas Church is such a tit
Murphy blowing my mind. incredible
Marin Mazzie and Donna Murphy in the same show.
Kasino80 that’s it, that’s the comment😭🙌🏻
I have cried enough tears because of this performance to fill a small ocean. Nothing I've ever seen is as powerful as this.
This show is quite amazing in it's music, mood and construction. I was blown away by Donna's performance. It stayed with me for days, and I'm still moved by it.
I really want a full version sung by Brenda Strong.
She is so beautiful and dreamlike singing this song.. I love this episode. I've never seen South Pacific but she's perfect here.
Donna Murphy is incomparable . I have heard many people sing /act this and no one holds a candle( Sorry Patti / Judy ) .. But .. I have to say ... there is one .. .we are waiting Renee Fleming .. bring it.
Renee Fleming can definitely do the music brilliantly, but can she handle the acting?
Look at me! No captain *tablesmack* LOOK AT MEEEE!!

my my this is the first time ive ever seen anything from this. there is something so intense and special about it. it feels a bit sondheim but not...who wrote it? i will go look it up now god i have to see the whole thing ....i feel that way about books, i read to dream :)
you probably know by now but it is by stephen sondheim
I know this is listed as to be sung by a mezzo, but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on if this could be sung by a Lirico Spinto soprano?
Utter perfection.
I'm completely convinced by Donna's performance...
