    How is the clutch mechanism on this one? Ive heard a lot of people complain that it is loose, resulting in lead slipping. How does the 8b lead fare?

    • @PaolosNotes
      @PaolosNotes 5 місяців тому

      Mine's good, not loose at all. So maybe it varies? I haven't had a lead slip while using. Could also be that I'm light with a pencil. 8B is good, really loving it. Only broke some leads when I dropped the pen from my spinning habit. But from regular use, no issues.

Someone on reddit posted his K-I-N 5201 with the staedtler sharpener (www.reddit.com/r/mechanicalpencils/comments/j38hsa/kohinoor_5201_my_writer/). The 5900 and 5201 are identical apart from color and labels, so it seems to be compatible.

      When you remove the clip from a m.pencil,you affect the control,because you change both the weight and the balance that the pencil was designed with. It won't write or draw the same.Also on this model,you will damage the paint if you try to remove the clip. It has the best build quality and fit and finish,that also means. no rattle anywere,no tip wobble etc (even my 50$ Rotrings,have that kind of issues, TK4600 doesn't!) Also, it's design,makes it the best pencil for shading when drawing. Precision when writing, is better than most lead hodlers, however, the grip is thin for long writing sessions,which is the only negative IO've found on this pencil. Here costs only 5 euro,which is a steal for what you get! PS: TK 9071 2mm leads, are the best you can use for this pencil and the only I'd suggest.SAme value as the pencil itself! which lead holder do you prefer more? This or the MH500 from Mitsubishi ?

    • @PaolosNotes

      I prefer this. The MH-500 does the job, simple, but it is plastic. I like the heavier weight of this one, and this is likely more durable because it's made of metal. The sharpener is a nice bonus in case you don't have a separate sharpener, but honestly, I just use the separate uni sharpener all the time.

    Thanks for the video! If you compare this 8b to a traditional 8b pencil, do you think they are much different? I mean, I read somewhere that higher leads such as 8B for lead holders tend to be too shiny compared to traditional pencils. Did you notice something like this? Thanks!

    • @PaolosNotes
      @PaolosNotes Рік тому

      Hey Marcelo. Didn't notice much difference when it comes to shine, they look the same to me. Some have noted that lead holder leads seem to be a few grades lighter than their wooden counterparts. I can't say for sure because I normally use 6B and up for wooden pencils (Uni Mitsubishi Hi-Uni) and they only have up to 4B for their 2mm lead refills. Koh-I-Noor has up to 8B, but i've never tried a K-I-N 8B wooden pencil, so I can't do a fair comparison. I like both KIN and the Hi Uni 2mm leads, fun enough to draw with. If the shine is bothering you, I suggest you try (Wolff's) carbon pencils if you haven't already.

      @@PaolosNotes Hi there! No, I don't own this lead holder. I'm just asking if it's made out of plastic or metal? In fact I don't own any lead holder (2 mm or above). I only own 0.5 mm and 0.7 mm mechanical pencils (and one 1 mm). Most of them from Rotring (600, 800 and Rapid Pro) and they all are second to none, simply fantastic! But I was looking whether or not to buy a 2 mm one. In such case, I like the Rotrings, but they happen to be way more expensive than other choices and that's why I started seeking other models and trying to figure out if they are really worthy in terms of quality, or should I go straight for another Rotring... ¿?

    • @PaolosNotes
      @PaolosNotes 2 роки тому

      Hi Mauricio! That was in reply to Olart, the commenter above who you said the pencil was no good. I personally thought the opposite, and was asking if he could suggest something better. I'm always on the lookout for amazing pencils! Regarding this, it is metal. I highly recommend the pencil. I actually was looking at a 2mm rotring but got this first based on someone's recommendation. Prior to that, I had a Uni MH-500. That was my first 2mm clutch pencil, which made me fall in love with 2mm. I only used .5 mechanical pencils and wood pencils before the Uni. I'm not sure how much you liked the 1mm and how big a difference it is from 2mm because I haven't tried a 1mm, but if you can easily get your hands on this, I'd say this is a good pencil to try out to see if 2mm works for you. It's not that expensive especially considering it is metal. Most clutch pencils I've seen have plastic bodies. Also, people who own the older, classic versions say it's almost identical, whereas a lot of pencils change the parts for the later versions, cost cutting maybe, and aren't as good as the original ones. I think you shouldn't compare this to a Rotring, as they are different classes. A 2mm metal pencil you can look at if you like rotrings is the staedtler 925-35 2mm. It is a mechanical pencil, not a clutch. Anyway, that's it for my novel! f you decide to try a 2mm, let me know what one you end up getting and your experience with it. Like I said, I'm always on the lookout for good pencils!

    The lines look great but you seem to be missing the whole point. It seems to me that the point is how the shapes and forms fit together as a whole instead of line by line. Starting with the larger shapes and refining the drawing as you progress instead of trying to judge each line individually as you draw. Kind of like starting with the head shape and position, chest shape and position, pelvis shape and position then connecting the muscles after you get the general position and pose of the body. The bigger masses are the foundation and the smaller lines are the icing.

The price of delivery doesn't go up significantly though so if you are buying more than one you quickly get to sub £5-6 per holder. I usually order with other things to combine the delivery, some mechanical pencils are outright cheaper on their own (with delivery) so the delivery becomes a non factor. Easy to go overboard though. i think the best way of studying bridgman isnt actually copying his lines, but actually trying to understand what he's trying to tell us, like this one in the video where you copy the torso, you drew it straight on without anatomical structures first that's why it's actually out of proportion , i suggest you try to think and see how he made it, like seeing the structures inside and not just copying lines since it doesnt really give much knowledge , if you want to learn about the torso i suggest you learn about the major parts of it such as the ribcage to the pelvis and then learn the muscle groups after that you can now draw a nice full torso without copying anything from the book.

    • @PaolosNotes
      @PaolosNotes 2 роки тому

      Thanks for the advice, John! Fully agree, that would be most effective, especially Bridgman. His lines are pretty loose, not meant to be copied exactly. I try to analyze when I have the time. I love how Bridgman simplified his explanations, especially when trying to understand how the body parts work in relation to each other. However there are times when my brain and/or hands do not want to cooperate when I want to draw. When that happens, I try to force them by copying. Probably learn very little, if any..maybe a bit of muscle memory. but anytime I'm able to draw anything, I consider it a small victory. As much I love drawing, sometimes picking up a pencil and drawing is difficult. I'll try to do more in-depth studies next time! Thanks!

    The brand have choosen a very nice and fancy dark red color for their pencils, that makes them pretty atractive as an oposition and diference from other brands than most commonly use cold colors such as blue, gray, green, black, and others

      Agreed. Black is nice too, but common. This color (maroon?) stands out, and is pleasing to the eyes.

    Very beatiful pencil, however it didn't work properly. It lost some clicks, where it didn't advance the lead. Everytime I try a new pencil, always come back to Faber Castell or in some cases Pentel.

      Yeah, the pencil just looks really gorgeous. Sometimes not advancing wasn't much of an issue for me, but I really wish the tip was retractable. It's got a nice weight but that doesn't work in its favor in case the pencil drops. I keep thinking that I'll eventually break it out of carelessness. Pentels are always nice. What Faber Castel pencils do you come back to? Any specific models? I have a bunch of cheap mechanical pencils from Faber-Castell, but what I want to get from them at the moment are clutch pencils.

      @@PaolosNotes I mainly use mechanicals for drawing/sketching but I also use them for writing. The Faber Castell TK Fine Executive 0.7mm, is great for writing. Has the suspension system and I've never broken the tip while writing! It feels way better wuality, than what it costs and it performs great too! I won't recomend it in 0.5mm though, because I find that Pentel pencils, performs better on those 0.5, 0.3 etc thicknesses.. I also love to death, their Lead holders (TK 9400 and 4600). The Executive 0.7mm, especially when I remove the clip which is great, however, it becomes the most comfortable, and the most enjoing pencil for writng, than any other I have use! If you like Pentel P200, then the Executive will feel like a Mercedes in your hands!! way better quality and feel!

      I haven't tried .7mm pencils, I often use .5 then jump to 2mm. I don't think I need anything more precise than .5, and I really like the flexibility of the 2mm leads. I mostly use pencils for drawing, but some mechanical pencils just give me the urge to write. I certainly love the Pentel P200 series, so I'll add the Executive to my to buy list. Since you mentioned sketching--do you also use Faber-Castell leads or do you load it up with something else?
