    Something I did on my spreadsheet for my Sinking funds is added conditional formatting on the Current Balance column to highlight when it equals the Needed Balance column. It makes it easier to see your progress. Just a suggestion for something you could add to your spreadsheet.

    We count our medical bills as bills owing until they have been posted 6 months for facility/ hospital bills, 3 months for provider and other's bills. We remain "late" yet work to pay the bills off before the 3 and 6 month time frame and accepting a payment plan for the balances owing. We aim for the least amount of money per month and the longest time frame as possible if on a payment plan; then work to pre-pay it as soon as possible. We have some predictability on some of the bills in terms of amounts and no clue on the amount for many until they post. Even so, the provider/ provider's billing folks can go for ammended claims and have upto a year after the previous approved claim to file yet again; I think there is a 3 year limit from date of service of some type. There is then a parallel amount of unpredictability about when a claim will pass through insurance to the provider and yet again when it will post in the provider's system. I generally budget a certain planned, maximum amount per month, every month for medical. I call or elsewise check with the provider's billing systems once to many times per month to find out what's posted and pay during the month to the sum of the planned maximum; what's left over already has a planned reallocation. If there's not enough, I tell them that I will catch them next month and no, I'm not interested in a payment plan yet. This said, at the end of the month if there is money left over, I make another call and allocate it to one of the bills. I try to pay by line item because if things end up in collections, each line item is sent as an individual bill.

    Good call on increasing the grocery budget! It’s very hard to eat Whole Foods on a budget, especially with 6 people! Honestly, I still think $1500 is great 😊

      Thank you! It is so hard. My sister has a family of six and her grocery budget is half of ours but they don't have the food allergies we do and just eat differently. I get a little jealous sometimes but remember my mantra about food, "No thanks. I choose life." 😜

    Increasingly, the pat response to the question of "how much do I owe" from multiple creditors is the latest minimum balance due. That $25 versus the @$400 to @$500 could easily be simply be what you do owe right now, this billing period as opposed to the "pay off amount". Recently, we were told we owed "nothing" on a bill to which I responded, "So, were paid in full?" There was a bit of flustered, fluttering and mouse clicking to bring up another page on the screen.

    • @BethelBudgets
      @BethelBudgets 14 годин тому

      🤦🏻‍♀️ It is so scary to me the way that has become the mindset. That when you call the creditors they even misunderstand the question. Yikes!

      I laughed out loud when I read this. Honestly. Same. At one point I would have started a new tab for my 2025 but then I would have been using three tabs for Sinking Funds. So then I decided to change the year. I could copy and paste the next year's dates to the bottom but was worried about that setting me up for errors. So it remains: January to December and as the months pass I change the due date. I totally get how that could make someone twitch a little though. Lol! How do you do yours?

    I’m trying to have all of my sinking funds written down the way you have them on your spreadsheet. It would be great for me to do that and be able to see what I have coming up and how I plan to have it fully funded I really enjoyed watching youmake adjustments! So I have some that are funded like my insurance for the auto but I need them all written down so I can feel comfortable about the status. Thanks so much for sharing!

      Thanks so much! I'm glad you found this helpful. I like to know the status of each of my sinking funds too. Some people keep a pot of money for different categories but I used to get anxious not knowing how much should be in the pot and when that would be due so I list them out. I'm glad you have some funds for insurance and I hope you find peace in writing out your sinking funds too!

    Hello :) Just came across your channel and I love the purple vibes 💜 Could you perhaps do a video in the future sometime about credit cards? I understand when you say we should be responsible and pay it off in full every month, BUT as someone who's living paycheck to paycheck, and budget every single penny to go to some bill or variable expense down to the dollar, I can't see how paying off a CC is going to leave room for "free" cash still available; e.g if my groceries and one or 2 bills come to say 700 for the month, and i pay that off with my budgeted paycheck (I get paid only once a month), where's the "extra" money? It's seems like living in a constant cycle of debt, isn't it? (Or maybe I still don't understand the ways of a cc so I guess I shouldn't be asking this??) If I hadn't said it already lol, new subscriber here 😃

    • @BethelBudgets
      @BethelBudgets 2 дні тому

      Welcome to my channel! I'm so glad you're here. I think making a video about how I use my credit card is a great idea! I know I won't be able to do that this week though so I want to attempt to answer your question the best I can. I want to make sure I’m understanding your question so I’ve broken down a few things. Feel free to clarify again if I’ve misunderstood. Extra Spending - I’m not putting extra spending on my credit card, only what was budgeted. Carrying Debt - In your example above. I start July with a zero balance on my card and I have $700 in spending on that card. That $700 was planned in my budget and I pay it off with my July paycheck. I guess in essence I am carrying $700 in debt for 30 days but paying it off - is that what you mean? In that case - you've challenged my thinking about that being debt and I'm going to ponder this. I appreciate that. Timing Issue - This may be a disconnect over timing. I get paid July 1st, spend my $700, then pay that card off on July 31st using July 1st paycheck money NOT August. So it is not July spending paid for with August money keeping it from being a more traditional buy now pay later situation. Extra Money - when you say extra money are you referring to spent money or saved money? You should be doing a zero based budget where every dollar is assigned to a category even if that category is saving. My “extra money” that I’m putting into my sinking funds comes from underspending in categories that I planned. Say I planned to spend $200 in dining out but only spent $100 that gives me $100 in “extra money” to transfer to sinking funds. I hope that helps. Let me know if I missed the mark with answering your question.

    We have had to go on medical debt payment plans a couple of times. We have found it beneficial to gowith the lowest monthly minimumm possible because they aren't very giving with late or reduced payments. Then we've worked to remit additional payments; often as fast as possible and on more of a weekly basis than a monthly basis. The "effort" and "intent" to pay off your bill has given us graces. It is CRITICAL that you clearly deliniate between your 3xtra payments and your minimum payment. Else, you can remit a hefty number of dollars yet not get credit for having made your minimum. Often the medical world's books have charges for each transaction billed to insurrance and these are counted as invoice numbers, accounts, or individual amounts owed. Should your balance end up in collections each of these internal balances owing is sent as a seperate amount. Let's say the entire amount owing is $1800 but $1800 actually covers 18 line items of differing amounts. They would then get sent as 18 bills owing. If worst comes to worst, it is generally better that only a couple of larger balances get sent rather than all 18. We work to pay off the smaller balances or line items first if they will allow you with the statement that: " You can only get so much blood out of a turnip; we want to save as many of these items from going to collections as possible." Coupled with showing effort and intent, the financial 9fficers at many places will give a wide assortment of graces including advice of how thier systems work, how to best manuver through thier systems, and provide letters of recommendation towards financial aide.

    Medical debt does stink. Most providers will take small amounts monthly without hounding you or charging you interest. 😊

    • @BethelBudgets
      @BethelBudgets 23 дні тому

      I agree and we will get there. Unfortunately what a lot of my budgeters have brought to me are these payments that don't fit into their budget because the medical company states that the payment has to be X%. Then the budgeter feels powerless and ends up accepting a payment that they will end up struggling with. Now I advise them to consider applying for financial assistance with the medical company and negotiating their payment not just accepting the X%.

    Reason 1. Too few oil companies 2. Oil investors and executives believe themselves entitled to megawealth 3. They can get away with it right now with the energy sanctions on Russia due to the war in Ukraine. The blunt fact is, the world has already adapted to the embargo on Russian energy. It is greedflation right now and election scheming.

    • @BethelBudgets
      @BethelBudgets 25 днів тому

      I like the term "greedflation" - I don't think I've heard that before. I do NOT like what it is doing to our economy.

    • @frankhoffman3566

      @@BethelBudgets - I didn't invent the term. When I first heard it, it seemed to sum up a lot of what many were noticing - In particular the stubborness of inflation. If inflation were only an artifact of the numbers, changing the numbers would have an instant effect on it. That, of course does not happen because of the weight of inflationary psychology, mainly its greedflation component.

    This is the best video I’ve watched all year! ❤ I am 100% guilty of continuously making a budget then not tracking and scrapping my budget until the next month. Some months out of pure laziness and some due to life events. I had to have a hard talk with myself this year as I found myself sinking into debt again. I have tracked every expense daily for almost a month now and I’m right on track. I have realized many things about myself and spending habits along the way. Thank you for spending the time to teach and encourage others. I do truly love your content and I hope more people will discover your channel! 😍

    Do you think a demented President can develop a strategy to make market forces drop prices? He already drew down the Strategic Petroleum Reserve for non-strategic purposes and no longer has this option.

      @@BethelBudgets Unfortunately, most of the factors of gas prices are political in origin from the countless varieties of "boutique" gasoline to be used in summertime blends, to limited refinement capacity, to allowing of drilling on public lands, to pipelines, to ANWR. Non commenting about political factors, which are far greater than the non-political factors, renders your assessment essentially moot.
