This is a real treat for Dutch viewers! On 2 March 1964 the Dutch show master Rudi Carrell recorded a unique television show. In this show he is marooned on a deserted island with as his only company a chimpanzee called "Vrijdag".
He is visited by a beautiful sea mermaid in the roll of the then very popular Israeli singer Esther Ofarim.
The story is lightly based on the book Robinson Crusoe by William Defoe.
A huge waterbasin was constructed on the stage of the old Circus theater in Scheveningen. Rudi Carrells show was awarded with the prestigous Silver Rose prize at the subsequent Montreux television festival.
In later life Rudi became the most popular showmaster in Germany. His popularity lasted for over 40 years. Sadly he died from lung cancer in 2006.
