hat to say it because I love Gretsch but the Mapax drum set sounds bigger and fuller.

This is the type of sound you can only get with thick birch shells.

i like that the Sonor has less ring to it naturally, unless its the way you guys tuned it. although, I agree that you should have the same tunings for a fair comparison

My dream kit--well, as of late, anyway--would be a Tama Superstar-series 'Re-Issue, painted in the Granstar-series color of "Heather Metallic," with one if these Bell Brass snares. Surround it with a sweet array of Paiste cymbals, and I'd be in BUSINESS!

Sonor for sure. The sound is much more controlled and tonal. The DW drums have an overtone ring that, for my taste, is not as pleasant.

Mapex toms and Gretsch snare

The maypex is so much rounder and fuller. Tama drums always just sounds so dead to me with no projection.

Both of these sets are probably made in CHINA probably in the same wholesale drum factory with the exact same materials! They just slap on different hardware, covering/finish and badge. Lol

A little late to the party 1 yr later (Blame it on the YT algo's popping this video up). One kit is made in China (Sonor) and the DW is made in Taiwan. Are they really Sonor or DW ? I would have to say the DW is closer to American made stuff (HVLT maple, True pitch rods, Magna throw etc). The Sonor... the snare sounded decent, But the kit looks cheap . I've seen better looking kits on Alibaba... oh wait cha ching ! 😂🤣😂

They should have added the A to the model number like they used too. This is just confusing. Now these higher model numbers SEEM to have the cheaper Sitka spruce tops. It's a stupid move from Saga. That A is NOT redundant! (owner of a BR-283A)
