It just goes to show how a simple shift in tone could turn a somber dramatic scene into a comedic one. Excellent acting!
Americans are theater Philistines.
Uhh this isn't a comedy ladies and gentlemen... Stop laughing out loud....
I feel like the people laughing don’t get the point of the scene
Never knew Denzel still did plays
I want to see Samuel L. Jackson play Denzel's role in this production one day.
These people are so low iq they turn a sad moment into a joke
Is the audience brain dead or something? This isnt a scene that is supposed to be funny, nor is the delivery hilarious... or was this a different more.. humorous adaptation from the James Earl Jones version?
What the hell these people laughing at?
This was not a laughing scene…
honestly an embarrassing version of it, even compared to his own other version in his movie. Feels less like an awkward father son moment and more like drake and josh
I would love to see this live ❤
I don't think the gravity of this scene resonated with the audience at all.... Just stupid laughter!
It’s not a comedy you spastics
People laugh for more than one reason..... If I was to chose one, I suggest, some recognise or resonate with the scene from their personal life. I had that experience and the scene made me chuckle out of relief in seeing that someone connected to the script knews or experienced this too. The brain can strangely lessens the full impact of possible trauma, in knowing that one is NOT alone.
I fall down on you and try to blast a hole into forever.. i cried when I watched the movie at this part n I'm crying now lol it's sad but it's funny.. disrespectful but funny
Wearing those Jinco khakis
Two maestros at the peak of their powers.
This was a hit movie and it aired on Cinemax. And later MyNetworkTV, which stomps The CW in ratings, much like how UPN stomped The WB.
Hes a good stage performer as well.
I wanted to see this on Broadway.....never got around to doing it
Wait sooo they did this live performance to 🤩🤩🤩🤩 just thought was movie and old school play back in day
Laughter sucked here, and it was not near as good as the James Earl Jones version anyway.
Im getting mickey loves mallory vibes here
I didn't know Denzel and Viola did the stage play too. I thought they only did the movie.
I hate the laughing
Soooo, no, you don't like him.
I like how this cast came back to play thier roles in the movie
This is the only scene in which Denzel was unconvincing as an actor especially coming behind The great “James Earl Jones” plus the crowd laughing just made this scene not convincing
Dont care what people say about this scene.. this was LOVE shown by Troy, teaching his son integrity instead of giving sympathy
Of course she mothers him too much, someone has to show him love and compassion
It's amazing watching the same scene with James Earl Jones and Denzel Washington the crowd reaction it's way different with more James. Earl Jones gave you that father figure straight discipline stone face look. Not saying anything different from Denzel's point of view but the crowd just makes it seem very bad because it was a message being delivered. Both of them did a great job in the scene, but of course James Earl Jones delivery was more harder and of course with Denzel there's no different but the crowd just makes it bad for Denzel's part. Both are a powerful scene nonetheless❤
People always say they don’t like the laughing , this rendition has been done some many times in a serious way, James earl jones perfected it the best. But for Denzel to turn this scene to be humorous for the stage but have the same strong impact is golden. That’s hard to do for such an iconic scene
This is why so many black men are emotionally broken…and they keep creating emotionally unintelligent and unavailable sons…who do their sons the same way.
I guess the people who were scared out of their skin from James earl Jones’s performance in this scene were relieved to see Denzel’s completely different interpretation as a “safe” version. I don’t know why else anyone would find this funny
people complaining about the audience laughing are totally missing the point. this is being played very comic. fences is a funny play in a lot of parts. it deals with difficult issues, but there's a lot of comedy for people who have faced those difficulties in their own lives.
I’m not a huge fan of this film because the father is unsympathetic. He angry that his life didn’t turn out the way he hoped? Life ain’t fair. Do the best with what u got.
Jesus was crucified. The moronic audience "LOL"
I like his approach through a slightly comedic approach, but there's a crazy weight when James Earl Jones does this scene. It's just plain brilliant.
What kind of a moron goes to a play like Fences and laughs during this scene. Tourists are one hell of a sad bunch!
Comparing performances Jones was a better delivery. Was more intimidating but also more sincere and tender when it came to the end of the speech. Denzel is a great actor but can’t change gears like Jones can.
I think the people need to get it straight that this is not a comedy skit
Tones all wrong... This is not suppose to be a comedy... The James Earl Jones production is more in faith and on point then this one... JEJ also slams it home and adds such nuance and conflicting emotions to his delivery- he's a real thespian... Denzel is meant to be in movies but i think he's out of water in this play... No offence i think they are both great actors in their own realms...
Crowd ruined the scene
Denzel Washington and James Earl Jones. Two different interpretations from two extraordinary actors. Both slap
James Earl Jones did it better. RIP legend
This crowd thought this was a comedy lmao
*This is a dramatic scene but the crowd making it seem like Stanford & Son*
"I DON'T WANT HIM TO BE LIKE ME" >Sabotages his son's sports career to make his son exactly like him
Is this a laugh track? It can’t be real. This one of the most emotionally intense scenes in the play.
