Flying the SFM Hawk and Gentle Lady.
Переглядів 6025 місяців тому
Gentle Lady did not want to come down from the good, floaty thermals today later on in the flying session. With much overspeed and flutter she came down. Thankfully the carbon reinforced spars held out. I think a spin may have been much safer, with hindsight!

Arrival into Williton, Hymek waiting, William!
Nice sailplane! I used to fly the super questor and an Olympic ll back in the early to mid 80s my friend flew a gentle lady back then with me.
It reminds me of the “sofisticated lady” from the 90s.
It does a bit, although the wing loading is probably double!
I love mine also but yours seems a little nose heavy the way it pitches down when throttle is pulled back. Or you got to much down in it when throttle is off. Mine will climb straight up on half power. It is supposed to climb steeply with throttle I barely use quarter throttle for a slow graceful climb but. Reduce throttle on mine she will set her self into a flat level flight and barely loose any altitude except during turns.
Interesting. It's probably my poor flying as all my motorised aircraft behave this way. I probably should feed in some down as I ease the throttle back.
Hey buddy, can you tell me what motor youre using, and prop size, thanks Colin
Had one of them many years back , loved it !!
RIP fox 7822
Great video again, can't get enough. Every time I watch your G/L it inspires me to fly mine. Love the Ladies ! Thanks
Ahh good, thanks! I think she's about my favourite on a calm day. Wonderful manners. The camera on top does affect the handling and I'd made some last minute, and incorrect rudder throw adjustments, but she still flew well! I hope you flew yours too then...
Thanks Steve, Good to be out in the ☀️
Nice to see you flying 😊
Thanks! Some wing ribs - most outboard ribs in this version, I created shorter outboard panels with balsa ribs which I normally fly her with now, fuselage sides (but not doublers), wing sheeting apart from centre section and spoilers are 2mm foam sheet, not sure if it's actually Depron though. Fuselage foam sheet is skimmed with glass bubbles, some with woven glass cloth!
Nice work sir. What pieces is changing from balsa to depron?
А тот что внутри ссать захочет,что будет делать???-?
There is no one inside. He is a robot :). Besides, it's a short performance only.
Bro there is
Which one was that one
It was 7828 Odney Manor!
ok
Thats a cool video my friend, hard to believe our Lady's are almost dressed alike, orange wings and tail sections orange, fuselage white. Love the G/L my go to plane. Do know the aprox. altitude ? Thanks
Bro now evrry one seen my face reveal anyway I playing Fortnite
When i was a kid i won a glider competition with a gentle lady. Spoilers are needed lol
My first one didn't have spoilers which is why this one does! I won't be entering any competitions, mind...
@@wizard_techie they are a thermal loving bird, I pushed a flight to 45 min and got worried about the rx battery and brought her down. Fun bird
It's been too windy this year to fly her much, and sadly no strong thermals caught either. But I have my doubts whether the spoilers would be effective enough to bring her out of a strong one, but they do assist landing in limited spaces very well, which was the main brief when spec'ing her out.
When you make videos please hold the camera or phone in landscape mode so you don't get the black bar down the sides
Thank you for your comment. It was intentional. Subject fits frame better in portrait mode, especially when filming at this range. Basically this content was made to watch on a handheld device.
😂😊
Well done!
I seen that
I built one of those many years ago, but it wasn’t that beautiful
nice
Nice
Ahh thank you! Yes I originally had longer outboard wing sections but I built them too light really, and experienced flutter. In actual fact the flutter seems more related to CG position. I prefer these shorter sections which also have less dihedral. It circles easier in thermals, not that I have found any this year...
Always enjoy your G/L videos, nice job. BTW do you have 2 sets of wings these look different than some of your other video's or is it my old eyes ? Thanks
Grazie!
William is impressed!
I sure hope the camera crew got a neck rub after that !!! Good job 😉😎
Nice flight, I'm building one now from a 40 year old kit bought from a charity shop for £7 !! Where did you get the folding prop & motor from as I'm struggling a bit to find them on line. Thanks jd.
Thanks - gosh what a bargain! I bought the motor from hobby king, not sure about the prop, but it's this one www.jperkins.com/products/5506991 hopefully you can pick one up, seems to go well on a 1350 KV and 3s.
@@wizard_techie thanks for reply Jeremy, I'll get prop & motor sorted & get model finished. I like your colour scheme & may copy it ! If that's ok ? Transparent covering is hard to source now as hobbyking stock is always on backorder....alternatives seem to cost a fortune...never mind...thanks again jd.
@@johndawson7302 Good luck! Yes - or course - would be nice to see finished model!! The wings look yellow but they are hobby king orange. Yellow and blue always go nicely I think. The only issue with this scheme on this model is orientation, sometimes If I've taken my eye of, I can't work out if it's become inverted. RRs need constant input, so I have put a stabiliser in this because of the orientation issue.
Good flight .I'm build this model right naw .
Thanks! I hope you enjoy yours too...
Rest assured. The first 3 notes of that "music" & volume immediately dove to zero! (And stayed there. LOL.) Good explanation of the building process though.
Thanks! It's not for everyone, or perhaps anyone!!
Very nice! Beautiful flyer! I have a Gentle Lady that I made a wing pod for and using a 2212 brushless. It's a joy to fly. I caught a thermal 2 summers ago with it here in the U.S. Midwest and almost lost it. I also have a Carl Goldberg Electra and a Great Planes PT-Electric I put on my UA-cam page using a keychain video camera for an aerial view. Please check it out. Thank you for sharing your video.
Thank you for your kind comments. This one flies much better than the first on I built 20 or so years ago, which I eventually put a .15 glow in up front. I think as it's lighter. I will watch yours for sure!
Thanks Jeremy 👍
I thought the flying of powered model planes with electric motors was banned on Dartmoor according to their bylaws?
@@normanhughes9169 Hi Norman, indeed it is, the uploader has explained to me the circumstances of the flying and it is in order on this occasion hence my comment
@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes Absolute crap mate! This guy should not have done what he did. I have been in touch with the authorities at Dartmoor in the last month and they have told me the same thing. There is no way that what is shown here can be defended. Good luck to you pal.
@@brianwells5829 Hi Brian, I think it's sorted now, cheers
Stick to models...
What kind of motor-esc-prop and battery did you use? Nice video
Thanks! 8 * 4 prop, 1350 kv 2826 Propdrive motor, 1300mah 3s 40c, 40A turning ESC!
Wow This Is Accualy Pretty Good!
Thanks... I think!
@@wizard_techie Yeah I Got It From Searching My Name BACKWARDS!
Beautiful!
Sad, you don't have the skills to get it up that high without a motor, what a waste !
Yes, I cry all night...
@@wizard_techie yes you should.
Range test.. lmao
Oh good. We like filming and flying her! Yes, originally I built it as a 2.5 metre but I then created smaller removable outboard sections and reduced dihedral. It also has spoilerons which work very well and the wings are built up using balsa, foam and carbon/glass fibre. I have a few other videos relating to the build. Yes all that space and still managed to fly her into my wife. At least I missed my car this time... :0
It never gets old watching G/L's fly BTW did you change the wing ? You have such a nice landing area I'm jealous , mine is asphalt or I try to catch it like you did with about the same success LOL. But I'll keep trying if the plane survives . Thanks again for the video's.
I built one of these in the early 80s shortly after it was released, I believe it was my third plane. Was able to teach myself how to fly it using a high start. Hope you're enjoying your plane.
Yes thank you, a well sorted model. Lovely to fly!
Great maiden flight. I have the same GL on my building board now. Can you share the specks of the servos you used on the rudder, elevator and spoilers? How about the motor, prop and battery? Did you shorten or lengthen the nose? Did you post a build log on one of the RC sites? Again, nice flight and good videos and camera work.
Thanks! I think cheap 9g servos for rudder and elevator, and probably 3-4g digital servos on the spoiler(on)s - just what I had lying about... PROPDRIVE V2 2826 1350KV Brushless Outrunner Motor with a 8 * 4 folding prop / spinner unit, 1300 3s battery about 40c I think. I redrew the plan so that the tip of the spinner is where the tip of the nose block would have been. The fuselage sides were the original length and I added a ventilated balsa block spacer and ply motor mount. I did make the front of the fuselage sides deeper so that the spinner profile blended into the fuselage better. Thrust line was mid-way up the fuselage (at the nose) and perpendicular to the plan bottom (no down thrust or side thrust added). I have done some build videos for the original build and when I created shortened wing panels: ua-cam.com/video/ATfz8PoYytA/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/6xaUcXySZGI/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/vnHLftgXrb8/v-deo.html I have passed on you kind comments regarding the video to my good lady wife!
Bruh that is loud
Bruh I can see that’s a field with nothing lol 🤑
I could lay down and go to sleep in that field! Nice
Shame the Sun wasn't out . Might try again next weekend.
WOW, what a find, finding someone else flying a powered Gantle Lady, Just maidend mine 2 days ago put a 960kv motor, 1300 3s, 40amp ESC and a 9x6 folding prop . Mine also is orang&white. Flew great for first flights just a few minor tweaks and we are good. Always liked the G/L so built another one after many years but this time it's powered. Really like your video's nice job. I'm in So. California, US in the wine area so we have pretty good thermals and the Lady loves it. Thank's again for the video, I subscribed for sure.
Thanks for your comments. I am really happy with how this one flies. Probably yours is not a dissimilar spec to mine. I'd normally be able to get an hour out of a 1300 3s. Hope to see a video of yours soon!?
I flew one for many years off a shortened Hi Start, absolutely loved it!
My original GL was the first model I'd owned that died from severe hanger rash, not pilot error! Never tried it with high start, it had a 0.15 glow engine I think, installed as I didn't like flying it from the slope very much...
Where do you put you battery for the right CG ?
Hi... It was right on the CG in a cutout in the fuselage under the wing.
100% for artistic filming of Stogumber, thats a first great shot . Clive
Thanks Clive. Looking forward to seeing you soon!
Hello do you have cg please
Sorry I don't have the model to hand but it's where the CG of the model is when built as a standard, out-of-the-box chuck glider.
