I painted a plaster sugar skull with watercolor!
Переглядів 6614 днів тому
Just in time for Day of the Dead and Halloween, this was a totally experimental, unrehearsed, never done before (by me), painting with watercolor on plaster. Can it be done? YES! It works pretty well, so join me to see how to do it. Today I used: a variety of watercolors from Daniel Smith, M. Graham, Winsor & Newton, and Van Gogh - but use what YOU like a plaster sugar skull from Michaels - che...

I used to have a great little cutter, but the blades dulled, I didn't use it that often, it took up space, and finally, it became so obsolete it wouldn't work with current operating systems. I was missing my little cutter, but I found an even better cutter, and it didn't cost me a thing. I don't have to buy new blades for it, and it's not my problem if it becomes obsolete (but I think that's pr...
Super clean transfer from sketch to finish paper

If you have art in your sketchbook or on random paper and you want to make it into finished art, I'm showing you how to do it neatly and cleanly. Today it's real time, not too much editing, no music, just talking about what I'm doing and art. Today I used: a photocopy of my sketched art, or trace your art on tracing paper if you don't have a photocopy a 2B pencil but there's no standard on lead...

This is a very short, unedited video from my phone. I'm working on a slightly larger scale as I transition from small to medium-sized art. I'm using only three colors on my palette to simulate a cymk palette, minus the black. Those are M Graham nickel azo yellow, phthalo blue, and Winsor and Newton permanent rose. I'm using Fuumuui Kolinsky Sable brushes and Fluid 100 300 lb. cold press paper.

It came out beautifully. I think I am going to use your skull as inspiration for to paint my dog sugar skull. I like the way the water color looks rather than acrylic

Watercolor supply that has the most impact is the paper.
For me, too.
Beautiful palette and paints❤️
Also, tell me the watercolor supply or tool that made the most impact for you.
How many times did I use the word "pretty" in this video? Let me know how many you think, or just say, "Hi!"
Great & funny! Tx
Thanks! 🙂
Hi Kelly, I have been watching your neurographic art style on youtube & I have to say I love them! I am an artist who has been struggling with my art after domestic violence. I have been getting back into art after 24 years of artists block. I am slowly realising that it all still exists in my brain but I feel a but like I am feeling like I have imposter syndrome. I have ptsd so that gets in my way alot of the time but recently I realised how much fun & peace I feel with just a nice pen & good paper. I have just finished watching one of your clips from 2 years ago & have watched some others you have done. I have to say 'you are such a talented woman' & I thank you for letting me come along for the ride. For some time now I have been searching for 'my thing'. I am going to really throw myself into this beautiful art form that you have great talent for. I am 60 years old & the only time I am truly at peace is when I am creating. My 7 year old granddaughter is staying over tomorrow night & she loves art. She is such a blessing when it comes to learning as she really listens. I am going to share with her some of your clipsb& then we are going to do our own. Your work is beautiful and I expect somewhere down the track that you will be remembered for your talent (& your wicked sense of humour). Again, thankyou for sharing. Linda from Australia. Take care & keep sharing please. Bye the way, I belong to a community arts group & would, in the next couple of years, be wanting to show others the power if peace that can be enjoyed by this art style. Look forward to watching more of you on UA-cam ❤
You're on a journey of recovery, and art can be really healing. Thank you for your kind words, and glad to have you here. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
You had me in hysterics about the tv ads. We dont have as many ads as you do, and we dont have voiceover disclaimers - they are hilarious 😂. Your neuro art is àmazing, tha ks for sharing
Thanks ❤️ those ads, lol!
How fun! I don’t have to wait for it to dry?! I need to try this ❤
Yeah, it's super fun and cathartic ❤️

Hi Kelly, are you on instagram ? I enjoy your work ,stories and humour
@sarahbarker1637 thanks, yes, I am. Same handle as here
I didn't know about this. Thank you for letting us know.
We have a lot of resources in our area. There's even glass blowing in KC.
Kelly...how lucky am I to have stumbled on this video today! Mesmerizing to watch your piece come alive...I've never seen so many different shapes take form in one place; so many different marks and patterns. Wonderfully mysterious (how does one know to do this and then that?!), and completely inspiring. Like everyone here, your laughter is just the best medicine. I feel like I just received an irresistable invitation to create. Subscribed, and will be digging into your library of videos. Thank you so much! 🙏❤🙏 P.S. - Serious question, only if you have time at some point. What are the building blocks to the mind coming up with these patterns? Not sure that this is the right question, but wanting to understand what are some of the general steps in going from first time drawing zentangle-like patterns, to a brain and hand that flow into the patterns you created here. Regardless of whether you have a chance to answer - thanks for all of your content, sharing, commentary, and humor.
Welcome! Glad you're here ❤️. Uh, well, as far as the patterns go, I was ear deep in grief, as we had lost half our family recently. Those patterns and doodles were a kind of meditation and way to focus my attention. It's been a few years, I've worked thru the worst of the grief, and my art has changed a lot. Now this would be rather tedious to do. I still love patterns, which I get from architecture, historical ornament, etc., but I don't exactly copy it, it's more like the impression I get from remembering them. I hope that answers your question. Thanks for your kind words. ❤️
@@kellysartthrob So wonderful to get your reply, Kelly. Thank you. I cannot imagine the shock and the journey through that kind of loss, and am so grateful to know you're finding your way to a more peaceful place. It's easy to see how getting lost in the patterns would help soothe your nervous system and provide a support through some of the intensity. Looking at it as a meditation is a wonderful analogy - a process of releasing control and learning to follow impulses and inspiration without judgment and analysis. Incredibly helpful. Thanks so much, and so glad to have found you. ❤🙏❤
The Pentel brush pen looks great! I giggled when you were talking about how the chromatek {sp}? brush pens might be too bright. I really love your videos, Kelly! ~Paula/plankton54
Thanks 😊
Do you follow a pattern or draw spontaneously?
It's spontaneous and intuitive, so not a pattern like zentangle.
This is exactly how my school books looked after each lesson. Maths in particular!!!!! Thank you for sharing.
@@ThorneyRose you work a lot faster than I do 😁 Thanks for stopping by ❤️
Is what you draw at 12:25 the infected perineum? Lol. I agree on the crazy commercials and can't watch tv either

Hey, Kelly, I found your instagram site, and wow, you are so multi-talented! I think you are my muse. This a way-cool journey, set to music against a backdrop of laughter. Thanks!
Cool! Thank you, and I'm glad you're here ❤️
Thank you!! I loved watching you, I like the combination of close up and broader views. You were laughing while you did this, and I laughed along with you. It turned into so much fun. I'm new to this, so will look for more entries from you. "Is this or isn't this Neurographic art," was an interesting question. I'm not concerned about following a particular set of rules. Wow, I'm still laughing.
😁 😁 😁
l Brilliant
Thanks 😊
That´s cool! I´m very bad everything I do.. And worthless!
Thanks, and please be kinder to yourself ❤️ I used to be really hard on myself, too, maybe thinking it would make me be better? It backfires! I decided to talk to myself like a good friend, and I wouldn't speak to a friend that way, so why say it to myself? I hope I didn't overstep, but your comment breaks my heart 💔
WOW! simply blows my mind....so creative.
Thanks for sharing this. Another benefit: not having it smell up your house! I'm sensitive to smells and that would be a deal breaker.
Yes! It wasn't too bad. But it was there, LOL!
❤ fantastic! I love your style!
Thanks 😊
I love this.. and your laughter made my day.. this was so fun to watch. I love your work. I love the combination of close ups and zoomed out.
Thank you 💗

Thank You so much! I really enjoyed this video. You have a wonderful laugh that made me smile on a difficult day. Your voice is very relaxing and I love the drawing you did! 😊
I'm glad, and I hope tomorrow is a bit easier 💗
so beautiful
Thank you 💗
Just found you….you crack me up!!!!! Your drawing is mind blowing…..what a happy channel😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks 😊
That was amazing to watch and your laughter and (snicker) “unprofessionalism” had me delighted! I love the close ups as I like to see what the tip of your own is doing. Your stippling is crazily satisfying to watch.
Ah, thanks. Love me some stipples ❤️
Edit: own: pen (can’t figure out how to correct them after posting on mobile lol)
Ooh! Not only am I envious of your technique, but also of your lovely mandellas! (also that you do not need to go through reverse Imaging to set your pattern!) I’ve been using a light colored pencil so I can see where I missed something without lifting the paper, and the color doesn’t smear like graphite does! Thank you for anothre great lesson!❤❤
Thanks, Anna! The colored pencil is a great solution. Have a great weekend!
Thanks for showing us this. Always love your channel. Have a great weekend.🙂
Thank you! You too! ❤️
First of, your mandalas are just gorgeous! Second, this is a fabulous idea for more detailed designs. Sometimes even when I use my lightbox, I can't see well enough. Thank you for this great idea!
Thanks! Glad it's helpful 🙂

Wow! This is so cool! All I need is your nimble fingers to set and remove tape! Again and again…So, let me know when you have 5 or 12 free hours, ok?! *heheh*
