I Now Know What KILLED My Caridina Shrimps...

I've probably spent close to $200 on my shrimps shenanigans. None of it survived, except 3 neocaridinas that you saw in the last video. I now have a solid theory of why they're always dying.

    My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.

    Helllooooo, 😊 I wa kill more shrimps, more than you, maybe And maybe, i find you, here in UA-cam, is a destiny, to share my experience and knowledge to you. Ok, what i have found about the shrimps, is about their genus. Neocaridina is just like a middle-class, they're not an extremes. But caridina is the extremist lovers, believe me. Caridina crystal shrimps or bee shrimps, and all of their variants is soft water and acidic lovers, so the Sulawesi, they're the opposite, the warm, hard water, and alkaline lovers, that's it. This about your water My water Our water And the climate around our house or shrimp farm. I have try many times with bee shrimps, but I'm using my well water. With ph 7 slightly hard kh is 4 and gh is 7. So all crystals shrimps become sick..... Ok, i can buy reserve osmosis unit, which will make me cost more for shrimps. Then the problem not stop, because around 2 or 4 month every years, come the hot summer, yes really hot which temperature can reach around 35 celcius, and to continue keeping bee shrimps, i must have air conditioning or chillers to all shrimp room.... Weewwwww Then i realize, ooh wow, my surroundings conditions is match with what Sulawesi shrimp need, then i try them and voilla.... They're dying😢, but this time not about anything, but about my mistake, because Sulawesi shrimps, most of them, from ultra Oligotropic (sorry if misstypo, something about that) lakes, which mean super poor nutrition of lakes, so their lakes is warm, full of algae and minerals, but lack nutrients, which meanings never send much food into their aquariums. And then..... I have hundreds Sulawesi babies in just next months, if you're my neighbor, I'll give some for free. Now, I'm enjoying my Neocaridina colony and from day to day have more love to them, they even have no problem eating the expired fish food😅, please don't call me cruel, they just very like it and happy, so i continue give it, but sure because their voracious appetite, soon they'll have new produced food. Please remember, this about our water ans the surrounding of the aquarium, the shrimps is act like very stubborn, they insist to continue traditions of their ancestors, than adapted to new environment. Hope i can help you, even with little info. Any question? Please reply and i will trying to help

    • @mapleandcherry
      @mapleandcherry 6 місяців тому

      I don't think so, no. It's not in the video but I also have a copper test kit and it doesn't show that there's any copper in the water. For more context, the medicine was Fenbendazole which commercially sold as pet dewormer, like for dogs and cats. I've treated fishes with it before but not shrimps. I've read online quite a lot that it's safe for shrimps, but as others pointed out there's safer alternative, I might look into that next time.

    Hi there! Thanks for the video, very nice scape! I love the tree trunk theme, I just built mine version of it in a 85 gal :DD I think you should fill up the water to the top of the tank, I can see what was in your mind, but the dry part really not give that much, and you betta will appreciate the extra space. It is not even a very big tank, so this space is really valuable for the fish. You can cut some holes into the lid and extend the hardscape to get the feeling, or even add terrestrial plans to give a better filtration and ascetics :3 You can always add more leaf letter to get more tannin, and even prettier with that I think. Add some shrimp and snail, even bettas need companion :3 About the video itself, a tighter cut could rise the quality by classes, 10 or 15 minute in length would be nice! The second one, it is really not necessary, but if the subtitles grouped together in sections (for ex.: at the start, middle and the end) it can be enjoyable. I whish you luck! Keep up with the great work!

    Nice video, shrimp always die and over the years you will learn on your mistakes how to make them die less. Just don’t give up and carry on keeping them. You’ll get better. It was good start with babies and berried shrimp. Just be careful next time with putting any new plants or anything to your tank. This is how you get your hydra and fresh water limpets. Keep it simple and don’t do much changes to your tanks. Just watch it, feed your shrimp and do regular water changes. Thats it

    I've noticed that saltwater reef keepers often do quite well with Sulawesi Shrimp. Probably because we are used to using RO water and specific salts while freshwater folks often cut corners and due to the hardiness of freshwater creatures, they can usually get away with it. I admit, that 8.5 salt is a PITA to dissolve but still, that seems to be the best for these guys.

    • @mapleandcherry
      @mapleandcherry 7 місяців тому

      Me personally, I came from aquascaping background, with low TDS, low KH, low ph, all that jazz. Sulawesi shrimps are very different from what I used to for sure. Also using DIY minerals when keeping these shrimps is probably a dumb move by me. Have to try 8.5 in the future

    your first problem is your are using buffering substrate with neo caridinas, buffering substrate lowers ph, your need ph to be above 7. The buffering substrate wont kill them but they wont thrive. Caridina need the buffering substrate. Next time you have planaria or hydra problems, use a product called no planaria or planaria 0, they are shrimp safe and you can keep snails after you do a big water change. I think you overdosed on your medication you used. You also have planaria in your tank, i say it at 3:50. Good luck

      Good catch! I didn't see the planaria, it should've been dead by now. I just want to test if the tank really have major problems and getting another batch of caridina shrimps is just too expensive. Needless to say i was very stressed and agitated. This tank will be my Caridina tank so maybe I'll setup another tank for the neos. I'll try no planaria next time, thanks!!

    That's why I never use meds. If it can't be fixed with a water change, turning up the temperature and/or some aquarium salt, then it's generally not worth the fix. I'm not going to upend the entire balance of the ecosystem in my aquarium by dozing meds to save one sickly looking organism.
