    Say, Viv, why don't you consider Scene Illumination as one of the factors of exposure?? It makes a difference. It is certainly controllable. And in fact it was one of the factors in the ORIGINAL "exposure triangle", before ISO became controllable. Why do we no longer consider it?? Why not the exposure quadrangle? Too complicated?

    • @studiovyv
      @studiovyv Місяць тому

      Scene illumination is definitely a factor that affects exposure, but the reason it isn't included in the exposure triangle is because as much as in certain situations such as a studio, the scene illumination is controllable, in many situations you're dealing with natural light which can't be controlled. Hope this helps :)

    Being a long time very seasoned photographer this video is a good way to put it. Also a good point that whether slow shutter speed is good or bad depends on the effect you WANT, and not only on if or not the subject is moving. It may be kind of a lot to process for any photography newbies. But seems fairly processable for photography newbies.

    As chocolate syrup is for me a more vital sundae ingredient than the cherry on top, I consider that to be more analogous to the back light, with any added color lights being the cherry on top.

    (2:13) 'The goal of the key light....' Pretty sure you meant to say 'fill light' there.

  • @ronmackinnon9374
    @ronmackinnon9374 2 місяці тому

    Nice and clear. It avoided the confusion I find in many other sources which say that shutter speed and exposure time 'mean the same thing.' While they're obviously related, the relationship is an *inverse* one. If they were 'the same thing,' then increasing one would mean increasing the other, same for decreasing. Whereas the actual relationship is the reverse -- increasing the shutter speed reduces the exposure time, while reducing the shutter speed increases the exposure time. This is just as with anything expressed as a fraction: Provided the upper number stays constant, then increasing the value of the lower number (the divisor) makes the value of the fraction smaller; while reducing the value of the lower number makes the value of the fraction greater.

    • @jasonbodden8816
      @jasonbodden8816 10 днів тому

      They actually *are* one and the same. Exposure is the amount of light that reaches your camera's sensor or film; essentially, the general brightness of an image. Shutter speed is the length of time the shutter curtains stay open to allow light through the lens into the camera from the moment the shutter button is pressed (the process generally being how long the camera takes to complete the shot, which is the "exposure time"). That's it. You're complicating things for yourself with all that meandering talk.

    • @ronmackinnon9374
      @ronmackinnon9374 10 днів тому

      @jasonbodden8816 Increasing the speed at which the 'shutter curtains' move back and forth, open and close, would *reduce* the amount of time that they 'stay open.' What complicates things is equating 'speed', which is related to motion (such as moving back and forth, opening and closing) with 'staying open,' i.e., with *not* moving.

    • @jasonbodden8816
      @jasonbodden8816 10 днів тому

      @ Again, you’re complicating things for yourself to the point of being wrong. It’s still exposure time - how long the sensor is exposed to light for. Whether it’s faster shutter speeds reducing the time the curtains are open or slower shutter speeds increasing the time they’re open, shutter speed is essentially still exposure time. This is why Shutter Priority is also called Tv (Time value) - because the setting YOU prioritize is the one that controls how long the camera sensor is exposed to light for, also known as shutter speed.

    • @ronmackinnon9374
      @ronmackinnon9374 10 днів тому

      @@jasonbodden8816 'Whether it's faster shutter speeds reducing the time the curtains are open or slower shutter speeds increasing the time they're open....' Yes - the relationship is an inverse one. Thanks.

    • @jasonbodden8816
      @jasonbodden8816 10 днів тому

      @ Regardless, shutter speed is still exposure time and that’s been my point this whole time. That’s the last I’ll say on it. Not perpetuating this back and forth with you. You can have the last word if you like, though. Have a good one.
