Mezcal Tasting: Unique Ensemble of Agave Inaequidens & Tequilana Hacienda Oponguio | Mezcal Buzz
Welcome back to Mezcal Buzz! Today, I’m excited to share a unique mezcal tasting of Mezcal Hacienda Oponguio, an incredible ensemble made from agave tequilana and inaequidens. Crafted with Don Pepe, co-founder of LA Tequila Club, this mezcal combines the best of both agave varieties for a one-of-a-kind tasting experience. I’ll take you through the aromas, flavors, and the traditional production methods that make this mezcal truly special, from stone-lined pit cooking to the unique Filipino still distillation.
Key Tasting Notes:
Aromas: Floral, citrus, and sweet cooked agave with hints of ripe fruit
Flavors: Sweet, ripe fruit upfront with citrus zest and a mild bitterness
Mouthfeel: Medium body, peppery with a smooth, coating finish
Big thanks to Don Pepe and LA Tequila Club for this unique collaboration! If you're in the LA area, I recommend checking out their events and tastings. Be sure to subscribe for more mezcal tastings and insights into agave spirits!

so I went to purchase all the ingredients for the Alma Negra and boy oh boy, what a great drink! I hope I don't become an alcoholic because of this drink! I find it so delicious! Gracias!
AWESOME! I’m glad you liked it! Of the 3 it’s also my favorite. We were drinking it all week 😅
@@MezcalBuzz same! this is not good! :(
@ it’s not bad 👍🏼 Drink Responsibly and enjoy!

Thanks for commenting, and glad you liked it!
Anise is nice 😋
@@larrywave totally 🤤 - are you familiar with a Mezcal pulquero?
@@MezcalBuzz no not really 😁
@@larrywave you have something to look forward to 😀
I don't like it at all.. especially for the money.. I think I will give it away or use in mixed drink
@@1maineboater honestly after this video it’s what it ended up doing, going straight into drinks
😁
@@larrywave Salvadores definitely brings a smile cheers
Ah! Another Joven masterpiece! I can't wait to try it!
@@ernestguzman4962 yes! The Madrecuishe definitely 💯
Great times and great mezcales!
@@theloveofmezcal3873 it was dope to get to meet you guys in person. Keep it up!
Love Aguerrido! And of course Salvador and Flor with Salvadores. Great people!
@@theloveofmezcal3873 absolutely 💯 It’s always a pleasure, you know 😉
Dude. This stuff is expensive and tastes like charcoal
@@CourtneyTyeryar you’re on point
Gotta look for this one
@@ernestguzman4962 🙌🏽 absolutely- where are you located?

Fire Daniel and hire me. I will never say no to your mezcal tasting 😅😅
@@franciscoordaz568 🤣 he got written up - has to taste double now
Never knew there was a egg white replacement. Is it noticeable in the taste?
@@michaelserrano4597. In this case, make sure the can of chickpeas is un-salted and it does not affect the 👅 taste. Otherwise you’ll add a salty flavor
I wanna try more cocktails. Where can I get tecojote syrup?
@@FrancoGutz in my case I purchased at Vallarta, over the counter. I bought the tejocote and used the syrup. I’m sure many culture stores might have it.
Going to have to try some of these out. Thanks for the info Mr. Buzz 🫡
@@michaelserrano4597 🫡 To the rescue! Wait till the next video, I’ll share my personal favorites from the channel.
Lalocura is my favorite. 100% recommended
@@franciscoordaz568 I definitely wanna try more of Lalocura
Another excellent video. Your consistency is impressive.
Thanks Anfernee! I hope you find some value in it
Interesting
It goes deeper, I invite you into the rabbit hole of Mezcal 😅
I like the Bozal Tepextate
Me to! I have 2 bottles of their Tepeztate, and each is different. I got them at Costco lol
Ancestral hands down the best. I tried mezcal Lalocura from maestro Eduardo "Lalo" Angeles in Santa Catarina Minas, Oaxaca. If you can get a mezcal bottle from Lalocura you'll never regretted.
@@franciscoordaz568 I reviewed a Tobasiche from Lalocura on the channel. You’re absolutely 💯right!!
Maybe it’s because I’m Mexican but this mezcal is not bad at all I can take a good double shot of this and relax
@@rodrigoramirez8891 definitely mexi -can, not Mexi-can’t 👊🏽 que se sienta el power Mexicano!
Bozal is 🔥🔥
Awesome, do you have a favorite expression so far?
😁
😀
Do they ^* eat * those legs of lambs after distilling with them, is something I've always been wondering about pechugas. Do you know.
Hey, great question! As far as I know, the protein is tossed. It comes out extremely dehydrated and fiberous
More Ilana please. Good humor and of course hermosa.
@@ositofreitas 😂 you’re awesome - thanks! We’ll work on that
Oaxaca!? I'm from Oaxaca.
That's awesome! what part of oaxaca? Salud!
@@MezcalBuzz Nowhere exotic. I was born in Xoxo, right outside the city.
@@thedrunkweddingphotographer that’s great, salud!

🥇 Salud!! 😆
Just picked it up from sams for $20 on clearance. Its ok chilled. My bottle from zacatecas la esclava is way better though
on clearance sounds about right. Nice, describe the bottle from zacatecas to me! How do you like it?
Juliancito puts out good product. Love his Chato.
💯 their product is fantastic and Juliancito is so cool. The chato is 🔥
Don’t forget to dry shake the lemon and egg white 🫡
You got it! Thanks 🙏🏼
We have a Sotol produced from him as well, but under the Mil Lumbres brand. It has a long finish. Sotoles from Durango are 🔥🔥🔥.
That's rad! I'd like to taste more sotoles - cheers!
Interesting
It's quite an interesting spirit. Have you tried any Sotol?
@@MezcalBuzz no never its not easy to get drinks from there to here(Finland)
@@larrywave Oh man, well salud all the way to Finland! I'd love to visit Finland one day and bring some agave spirits to share
Gilberto is a wizard with Cenizo and has great Verde and Lamparillo also.
Agreed 👍🏼 I still have a bottle of his Mezcal Lamparillo and it’s nice to sip on here and there. Thanks for commenting!
Yes 👏
@@MezcalBuzz Sorry, had to edit as I meant Cenizo first but yes, his is a Mago de Mezcal.
@@ositofreitas Ah, I would love to try the Cenizo!
Got a bottle coming tomorrow, looking foreward.

I had a Chuparrosa from Amaras Logia. It was very pleasant.

Absolutely 💯 it’s 🔥
Great Content & especially since i am a Mezcal Drinker....👌🤟🤙
Right on, thank you! Glad you enjoy it
Don't have too much experience with mezcal, but enjoy mezcaliitas from time to time and this is my spirit of choice. Sweet but not too sweet, lets you feel the smoke without overwhelming and blocking other notes. Give it a try for sure!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
What’s crazy is that this shit gets support by some Latinos smh
I’ve never had a Mezcal made from Agave inaequidens, so, you’ve piqued my interest; so much so that if I can’t find your Mezcal out here, I’ll have to fly out to Michoacán 😊
It's quite savory! Where are you located? Let's get you some Hacienda Oponguio, thought Flying out to Michoacan is not a bad idea!
Do you know what year your bottle is from? We tasted a Largo from Real Minero at Tahona SD in 2021, tasted like banana laffy taffy. We bought a bottle of our own in 2022 and it was very earthy like carrots. Goes to show how diverse mezcal can be from one batch to the next, same agave, same palenque etc. and different experiences. ¡Salucita!
You know, I’d have to check back on that - I don’t remember. I agree it’s interesting how different it may be from batch to batch - Salud!
Cirial is our favorite from their silvestre, non-destilado line up. Great review!
It’s my Tops of theirs as well! What is the “non-destilado” I never heard that?
@@MezcalBuzz their expressions that distill with, destilado con cafe, destilado con hoja santa etc.
@@theloveofmezcal3873 ah I see, the “destilados con” 🙌🏽
Yeah, you got it right 👍🙌 like that you added the bitters….. You got style 😋.
This is the 1st and only mezcal I've tasted, i barely got into mezcal, im a big beer fan and just started on mezcal, i drank with fever tree grapefruit water and lemon and coarse salt, its amazing
Welcome to the world of mezcal! Warning, you have entered the rabbit hole, that will lead to endless bottles, varieties, culture, and more. ENJOY! #FindYourMezcal
