If you are having trouble with thread continuously breaking while quilting on the Grace Cutie Frame, it might be because your quilt is hooped too tightly on the frame. In this video, I show a quick test you can do to make sure your quilt is not hooped too tightly. This same test applies to the QZone frame, other hoop frames, and even rolling frames. Where did you get the over handles? Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving
I have a Qnique machine. The handles are attached to the machine and I don't need the upper carriage of the Cutie Frame.
Great ruler work by you!
Thank you so very much. I just bought a cutie and a 16. I was so freaking but now I feel that i can
Thank you so much for your clear explanations on this video. I just got my Cutie Breeze quilting frame & I'm still getting it put together. I have numerous large & small quilts so now I have a better understanding on the "how to's! "
Thank you for such an awesome tutorial video!! One question-what is the purpose of basting each time you begin a new row or section? Or did I misunderstand?
This is so helpful! I recently got a cutie and my goal is to do a king size quilt for my bed and thanks to your video I have confidence that I can do it! I am a visual learner so seeing each step is so helpful. Thank you so much😀👏🏻🎉
@@carold1280 glad this was helpful!
Is the background music from Incubus?
Finally.a BIG quilt not another demo on a wall hanging or baby quilt! Thank you . Thank you! Thank you!
Thank you, SO much for going thru this process with us!!! To see the real workings and setups are greatly appreciated ❤
Are you using an ordinary domestic sewing machine withou out any fancy extras?
Omg they should pay you! I've been debating whether it would be worth it to buy this frame and you showed me what it would look like to do a big quilt. THANK YOU! I think this is going to save my shoulders and neck! Thank you!!!
Would it be possible to use the curved quilting pin?
@@sdcgren6301 I’m not sure what you mean. Like the curved safety pins? Sure I don’t see why not. Just harder to take out than straight pins
Thank you for your reply, I’ll try both ways when I get my quilting frame.
What kind of sewing machine do you use? Is it a special one? It doesn’t look like a domestic machine.
@@sdcgren6301 it is a Qnique 19 longarm. However domestic machines can be used on the Cutie as well.
I feel you have touched on a lot of important tips that others, that are really experienced, do not think to address. Thank you for this video. I am struggling smooth moves on my cutie
I love watching you work when you were showing the whole part I had to laugh I got to watch in your mouth I could almost tell when you were going to change directions by the way you move your mouth if I could sit and watch it longer I could probably figure it out exactly I don't know when you see this do you get a chance watch your video and watch your mouth you probably don't even realize you're doing it😂😂
I am so glad I watched you I have a cutie frame I'm learning to quilt I have a Q unique 16x Elite I haven't had it for very long the quote on making about a queen size or bigger 15 8 inch squares of Christ 14 down I cut squares with two different material colored material and I cut that in half and sew them together but for some reason I could not get all the lines to line up straight I took it apart I put it together I took it apart I put it together to the point to where it's that's it and I am so glad to see you using the cutie frame now I know how much easier way to lay out my quilting and everything thank you so much
WOW. this was a great video.
I am so happy to have found this video! You have done a wonderful job of instructing and you’ve alleviated my fright to BEGIN on my new Little Rebel and Cutie Breeze set. I made a beautiful queen quilt top a few months ago and I was so afraid I’d mess it up that simply FROZE and have been so scared to move on to the FMQ. You’ve truly inspired me and calmed my fears. Thank you 😊
@@BBsummers I’m so happy the video helped you! I hope you’ve been quilting!
Thank you for the great video I just got my machine and frame less than a week ago and was freaking out about leader cloths and do I need the or not You make so much sense to me and it seems easier
Thank you so so much. You explained everything so well. Glad to see that went off line a little in basting....that would me!! It's good to see the steps in the process. Where others might only give a little info. you were pretty thorough. I just got a Q'nique myself and I have the cutie but only used it once with my regular machine. Thank you for your video I saved it so I can watch again. 😊😊😊
This is a great video. Thanks
Okay, I can see already that you have something attached to the frame that doesn't come with the frame. To camera right, there are two blue bars. To camera left she is adding clamps that are not part of the Cutie Frame package. I'm seeing the need for additional clamps in all the videos I have viewed so far. Off to Harbor Freight for clamps. I'm regretting more and more my haste to purchase a Cutie Frame. And now, they've upgraded the frame. What's with the blue painter's tape? And the rubber bands? The frame is easy enough to assemble. I don't think there are adequate warnings about the adjustments necessary to fit the machine onto the frame. The videos make it all look so easy. I'm going to be taking lessons on a long arm at a local quilting store.
The clamps on the left side just hold that side taut while quilting. Grace sells bungee clips to accomplish that purpose, but I did a DIY to save money. You could eliminate the need for clips altogether by pinning extra fabric on the sides of the quilt and using the blue clamps that came with the frame. That's a completely $0 cost solution. The blue tape on my clamps just give me a visual of how far to the side I can quilt. I'm not sure what rubber bands you are referring to? I'm also not sure what you mean about the "adjustments necessary to fit the machine onto the frame"....what machine are you using and what adjustments are you finding necessary? I'm sorry to hear you are regretting purchasing your Cutie. I really love mine. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help you learn to love your Cutie.
You are doing a great job. I can watch you learn and not want to pull my hair out because you talk to much. Thanks ❤
Great video. I've had this same frame and machine for about 6 months but it's good to see how other people do things. Learned a better way to do a few things. Thank you!
My cutie frame is supposed to be delivered today and this video is invaluable as a learning tool for beginners! I really enjoyed watching g the whole thing! Thank you for sharing!
Great instructional video on using the cutie. You do an excellent job of explaining the steps. I’ll rewatch when I get my frame and begin to quilt. Thanks for taking the time to explain everything so clearly. Way better than the Grace Company video.
Hi Christie- I love what you did on this panel! What needle would you use with minky or cuddle backing fabric?
I’ve never used minky or cuddle. I think there was a video about it on Lorena’s Quilting channel in the last couple weeks…. 🤔

Great information and instruction. I like your process. So helpful. Thank you.
This is the best video I've seen walking through all the steps. Thanks so much!
Glad it was helpful!
I agree! I'm so glad to find you!
Thank you so much for the video. I’m thinking about getting one
Loved your video. Could you please share a link to the side clamps and toggle cords you use? They look so much easier than what I’ve been using. You make a big quilt seem do-able without all the hassle of basting. One more question. Do you ever use pantographs? And how would this change how you load your quilt. Maybe you have a video on this? Thanks in advance.
I just used stuff I already had. The toggles are these: joann.app.link/bEnbLC5MNBb (probably available on amazon too), the cord is elastic cording, and the clips I had from a photo backdrop set but they are similar to these Heavy Duty Muslin Clamps 4 1/2 inch 6 Pack a.co/d/4ybPsVs Hope this helps!
I don't do pantographs but I think the only thing I would do differently is take the time to make sure the quilt was as perfectly straight in the hoop. Then when shifting the quilt, I would drop the needle and use channel locks to make sure it stays straight. Grace now sells channel locks for the Cutie but you can also use Handiquilter's channel locks (you can see one hanging in the handle of my Q'nique.) Moving to the next row would be a little more challenging because you'd have to move just the right amount forward and also make sure you hoop the quilt straight. Also depending on the pantograph pattern you may want to do all the rows left to right instead of alternating between left to right and right to left. To me, having to hoop that carefully is not worth it. I prefer to freehand and use rulers and do what's called "custom quilting" rather than pantographs or edge to edge designs. Stitched by Susan is a good channel to watch for learning how to freehand edge to edge designs. Angela Walters is great for learning how to freehand more custom style. Hope this helps!

Christie, you have helped me so very much..mentally more than anything! I’m new to my Cutie and have been quilting using my embroidery module and edge to edge quilting up till now on my Bernina. I’ve been so consumed that the quilt had to be so perfectly straight on the hoop. You’ve given me the understanding that if I don’t do a panto or E2E I can either free motion or custom quilt without that much stress!!! Hallelujah! So many of your little side comments have been so eye opening to me. Thank you for the clamp links and all the help!!
@@cmarks101010 so glad I could help! I also have a bernina and have tried quilting with the embroidery module but it was soo not for me. 😂 Too much stress trying to get it all lined up. I call myself a lazy quilter… I prefer to get good results with the least effort. 😉
Love this video, helped make me comfortable to get started. I actually bought the Husqvarna Designer Fabric Frame second hand (and an Artistic Quilter 18-made by Janome but just like the Tin Lizzie) rather than the Cutie-is on a stand, and what I could find for what I wanted to spend. I was still intimidated after reading how to load and such but actually watching someone do it makes me feel confident about it. Plus I only had planned to do baby or throw size but now I’m sure I will be able to finish my already made larger quilt tops-made over the years but never finished. Thanks so much for taking the time to walk us through everything; best class ever. God bless!
I believe we have talked on the FB group. So glad the video was helpful for you. Can’t wait to see some of your photos of your finished quilts!
Thank you so much. I have had my cutie for a year and had only completed small projects. Baby quilts. Nothing I had to move. I am a visual learning and your video gave me the confidence! I am very pleased with the outcome and looking forward to completing more!!
This looks just like my cutie frame 😮 I have a juki machine, having trouble with free motion quilting my sewing machine won't grab the bottom thread it sews perfect with the feeddogs in place 😔
Hmmm. I don’t know much about Juki machines. Are you trying to pull up the bobbin thread to start quilting, or is it not forming stitches?
I have a Cutie frame, and a Baby Lock Jazz II. So far I have been struggling with getting my first quilt set up on the frame. I have succeeded in making a very comfortable hammock for my cats! Videos by actual users are so helpful.
Are you a member of the Cutie Quilters facebook group? There are many experienced members there who may be able to help you.

Thanks for taking the time to do this!
Hi again. Because of health reasons I had to wait to order the Husky workbench that you are using,. Is your bench the 52” or 62” size? Also is there room on the table to use a pantograph?
I have the 52" because that's all that will fit in my space. Either size should work. You just need a tabletop no smaller than 24x48". Because pantographs will go within the base of the frame, any table that fits the Cutie frame should work with pantographs.
Which way do you load the quilt on the frame
@@christiespeich6537 How do you load a quilt 65 By 80 on the frame ?
@@marywright9617 around the 19 minute mark of the video I show loading the quilt on the frame. Because the Cutie is a hooping frame, it doesn't really matter what size the quilt is. The excess just hangs off the edge.
Great ruler!!
I love that it has both curves and straight edges!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. You have helped me a lot. Judith
You are so welcome
I see that you use the Grace Q’nique 19. I found one for $4900. Recertified. I have the cutie frame. I am torn between such a good price or buying the Q’nique 19X or 19x elite. If you were buying a machine today which would you buy? I am not a professional quilter and will use it for quilting personal quilts, etc. Thank you for your advice.
I just looked up the prices on the 19x and elite and holy cow! I also bought my Q19 recertified and have had no trouble with it. No regrets at all. It doesn’t have the bobbin estimator or the edge detector but I’ve been fine without those features. Nice to have, sure, but not necessary. If I were buying a machine right now, I’d buy the recertified Q19 because I don’t feel the new features are worth such a huge price difference. Recertified machines go fast and aren’t always available so you might want to jump on that deal. On the other hand, Grace’s spring fling is next month and they will have sales… but who knows what the sales will be. Often they bundle several items with the machine for free. I’m not a professional quilter either, and I love my Q19 and would buy it again in a heartbeat.
I have a cutie frame also. I called the grace co and ordered a second set of the small side clamps . They are very inexpensive and help pull my quilt evenly . I love them! Thank you for this video!
Can you share where you get those big panels?
