A wedding photographer and educator from the UK.
I've been photographing weddings for the last decade, shooting all over Europe, from here in the UK to Italy, France, Spain, Denmark, and even internationally. I'm also hugely passionate about helping other photographers build better businesses by improving their work, identifying their style and approach, or by helping them navigate the world of branding or marketing.
On this channel you'll find a mix of wedding photography advice and help, from the kit and gear I use, through to behind the scenes content of running a studio, and I'll be sharing the experiences and insights I've had from 10 years of business as a wedding photographer.

Está bien . Lo de la cortina trasera yo también vi que mejor no cambiar
If you're finding you can't focus in the dark, some speed lights come with a front facing led light, switch that on.
i should start to call it frame instead of image. sounds a lot fancier.
great explanations, thank you!! is f8 a must or does it also work wide open f1.4 for example?
So helpful! Can't wait to try this tomorrow 😄 Thank you!
Hi Sam, just wanted to let you know how brilliant these videos are! Thank you so much for your ethos, style, and positive community-over-competition attitude! I was up late binge watching and know I will be rewatching for al these great tips.Thank You! Looking forward to seeing more from you!
Great video Sam, I have been a photographer for 30 years and you have some great information in this video!
Good post! Question: so.. 🤔 do we have to move the camera...? I don't think that was stated in the lists of main points... Ok thanks! cheers!
Yes, take shot, flash fires at start of frame, move/wiggle camera, and if the lights are static, they'll be blurry!!
This was good. Thank you!
Great video
Thanks!!
I like watching your videos. They are informative and it’s like just listening to a mate sharing useful tips. Thanks for the effort
Thanks mate, really appreciate that.
Does it matter if IBIS or Image Stabilization is on or off? Thank you.
Nope, shouldn't make any difference.
@@SamDocker Thanks Sam!
Great information, thank you!
Absolute pleasure!
Amazing explanation !! Gonna practice this week at a ferstival! But There is something I didn't get it correctly I think. Should we set up the sync flash in rear or front mode ?
Always on front, you want the flash to fire first, that way you capture the moment first, rather than having to wait for the rear!
my question is how do you get the person in frame when you're waving the camera around all over the place?
You aim the camera in the direction of the subject, stand close but on a wide lens, and then when you fire the shutter, then you move it slightly!! It works!!!
Glad to be a new subbie ❤
Have you ever tried the modeling light on the V1 instead of a light panel?
I had issues at the airport with.1 Cam + 2 lenses because it was to heavy. Whats the weight of all yours together? But great, that you cheat here ;)
Love, love, love this video, thank you
Thank you so much that was very informative and helpful!
So these are all very helpful. We're doing our first destination wedding in Italy in 2025, and want to know how is best to legally shoot a wedding there. There are 2 of us, so would be double the kit, and I'm not sure I like the we're just on holiday line. Is the a working holiday visa or something? We're from the UK
most comprehensive and helpful video I've seen on this technique! thank you
Thank so much!!
Nice one 👍
Thanks sir
Brilliant thank you for doing this Sam, now a regular subscriber
Hi Sam, I am currently using canon r6 just experiment and I noticed when I open the pictures in lightroom I can see a lot of iso spots. The higher iso I have ever used is 3200. Is the settings that does that and ruin my pictures?
All I can say is that I will regularly shoot at 6400 with no problems, sometimes 12800 if there's candle light. You're always going to get some noise, but it's far more useable than any cameras that have gone before!
Thanks again for this video. I watched two videos and both of it helped me learn something new. Thanks 🙏
Did this New Year’s Eve with my Fuji x100v and when it works, the pictures look amazing. Thanks 👍👍👍
The best way to re-center the focus box in push down in the centre on the joystick (I'm sure you know joystick is also a push-down button), as your thumb finger is already there to move the box. The DoF button I use it to switch from One-Shot to Servo, while direct AF method switch (I have only two, single point and multi/face, so its basically a direct toggle between the two) is on MfN button, so with the index finger I move from shutter button to MfN button to toggle AF method, while with the ring finger I toggle One-Shot and Servo. With those two buttons you completely alter the AF of your camera. When in single point AF, the box is moved with the joystick, and re-centered pushing down on the joystick itself. Touchscreen was fully disabled the day camera come out of the purchase box, it's not needed to control the camera in any way, and just make your screen filthy and greasy. Touch screens on pro cameras are a disgrace. ISO is on the top dial (Tv is on front dial, Av is on rear dial, typical Canon scheme for me since my film Eos 33 20yrs ago), so all the exposure triangle is set on the camera dials; the control ring alters the exposure compensation, needed when I (rarely) use autoISO, so it's basically not working 95% of the times. My backup RP, having just two body dials, has a slightly different setup: Av is on top dial, and ISO is on a push button + front dial. Unfortunately the RP firmware sucks, and you can't set ISO on the top dial as you can do on the R6. Exposure simulation is also disabled; I come from film days, so I prefer to use the EVF as it was an OVF, with an constant and balanced view of the reality. So I use the R6 as it was a DSLR basically, I find I can work better that way.
I love your step by step style covering this technique. Thank you so much. One question: How can you be sure your autofocus is getting the focus desired when the camera is above your head and you're not looking at the viewfinder or LCD panel? Or are you sort of just having faith that the camera's going to get something in the right vicinity? I understand putting on manual focus with F10, but autofocus puzzles me when you're not confirming the camera is hitting the right subject.
I am beginner in photography. I bought a used Sony A7s2. New 24-70 2.8 lens. How much power flash would be enough to shoot outdoors? I would want to take this flash with me easily and during travelling. Should I go for on camera flash or off camera flash This would be 1st flash that I would buy. What are your suggestions for flash? Also suggest soft box and tripod (either camera or flash would be tripod as I can hold only 1 thing) for travelling.
Loving seeing this not going to lie
Should I take my magmod off for this?
Is it a bounce/diffuser? You want the light to be directed, so unless it's a grid add on that stops light spill, then yes, I'd take it off.
Fantastic video - thank you
The NEYE technique
That’s what I’ve done 12 years ago when I was photographing in nightlife. The inspiration came from Ambrel who had done that in NY back then… You don’t need to keep that flash on the camera. I like it actually more when it’s off camera. If someone wants to practice: hit the club.
would it be better to set your focus to like 2 metres. manual. but like f9 or something on 24mm so you get everything?
You absolutely can do this, it's a great option!
Brilliant vid Sam! Would love you commentating over the top of the wedding footage with your thoughts in different situations/ lighting situations
Great shout, I'll do this to a future video for sure!!
We miss your videos Sam!! Hope your making new content soon!
Big Big plans for next year, don't worry, I'm still here!!!
Such a helpful video. 👏🏻
Love this video.
Mate! Just come across your channel and f'king brilliant! Several legit lol's out of me. Get over all the cringe US content on yt, yours is 🔥
No panic for high ISO ! I always have my AutoISO on 100-50000 (Sony a7 IV). Yes of course you can see noise if you zoom in. But better than unsharp or missed shot. Of course if I see the camera really choose 50000 I try to chanhe my aperture and shutter speed to use lower ISO.
*good job*
Jawdropping! Wtf
Great video! Just found your channel and have found it so helpful!
Great vid. Enjoyed that. Glad you mentioned the zine focus. Why people try and focus at f8 I don’t know. 👍🏻😁
thanks
This a treasure trove of information. THANK YOU!!!
