Boxill-Harris, I have another interesting idea for most of you Class 507, Class 508, Class 313, and Class 314 and that also includes those interesting Class 315 Fans out there, rather than scrapping most of those Class 507, Class 508, Class 313's Class 314 including the Class 315's maybe you guys can convert them. Including the refurbishment into the Volvo TD102KF Engine, Leyland 680 Engine, Volvo B10M Engine, Scania N112 Engine, Cummins M11 Engine, Gardner LG1200 Engine, Gardner 6LXB Engine, Gardner 8LXB Engine, Class 507, Class 508, Class 313's, Class 314's and the Class 315's and convert all of them into a 2 Carriages and Three Carriages of the Class 313's, Class 314's and that is including those Class 315's for most of us Class 314 and Class 315 Diesel Train Fans Pretty PLEASE. Are you still going to do this interesting type of Project for all of us out there Please?

One word... "Asbestos". I looked into a sheds once and saw smashed sheets everywhere - inside and out. I would say, with an educated guess, that thats the reason the sheds are still standing. Enjoying the video a lot.👍

Fantastic video, haven't seen the inside of the factory in over 25 years! Chettles was part of a UK wide animal waste group called Prosper De Mulder. Ditchford produced Feather meal which was used as an animal feed before it was banned in 2001. Thats when the site was shut down by Prosper De Mulder. The site also stored animal by products like offal which was then transported to Chettles in Nottingham which processed this waste. Other waste was transported to Prosper De Mulder in Nuneaton and Widnes. The large part of the factory you went into first was the feather storage area, and next to it was where the cookers were which produced the feather meal. The building out the back with the low roof near the odour towers stored waste water which was then sent through to a couple of settling lakes which now look massively overgrown (I'm guessing they have gone) before entering the river right at the back of the site near the weir. The old mill used to be the fitters workshop. There was a door in there which opened into the mill and you could see the water going through. I can't belive what a mess it looks down there now. We kept the grass cut all the way down to the weir, it was actually a nice walk down to the weir and then back along the backwater! The footpath was never an issue in the 1990's, even with the lorries and tractors driving around, the footpath was fully open and people just walked through.

Thanks for posting, an important historical record for the future. Shame the buildings are too far gone and cannot be re-purposed like those at the old gasworks site on the other side of the railway. I remember the old water tower here, a Wellingborough beacon. I am sure the tank was painted yellow for a time before the British Leyland livery was applied.

I enjoyed that tour and a pity they have to come down as im sure they would still make good workshops or storage for old trucks or buses etc. I love the rails in the floor.

My father was the foreman there in the 1950s and I recall his office being directly over the furnace which exploded underneath. He was in his office and heard a strange noise and was making his way out of the door to investigate when the explosion happened and destroyed his office causing him to be thrown breaking his little finger on his right hand, but he avoided the worst as he had just left his desk.

I remember the barn that used to cover the concrete slab which is the last piece of Hemmingwell farm, we found a dead horse in there in the very early 70's......

They got rid of the pond because people would always dump their rubbish in there, made it into a stinking eyesore!!! Used to catch newts there in the 1970's, when it was pretty decent.... Lived in Thrush lane for 40 years, 2 doors up from Ray Stewart, before he moved out, funnily enough.... Nice one for the pond photo, purple, brought back some memories 👍👍

Must have been noisy for the locals living near but nice to take the children for the time. Glad that we care better now about animals welfare. 😃
