Exploring walks and trails. Advising on layout, terrain, difficulty, required gear and facilities for Irish walking routes.
Cuilcagh via Ben Beg
Explore this 13.7-km out-and-back trail near Dunmakeever / Derrynananta, County Cavan. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 3 h 19 min to complete. This is a popular trail for hiking, running, and walking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The best times to visit this trail are March through May.
This is a brilliant route up Cuilcagh which first takes you over Ben Beg mountain. Tends to be much quieter than the main boardwalk. Parking is available at the side of the R200. The zigzagged gravel track gradually gets steeper towards the signal tower where you will then meet a lightly trampled track to the top of Ben Beg. From here the track becomes more visible. It’s then a long C-shaped ridge walk to the summit of Cuilcagh. The views from the top of the peak make it well worth it the effort

Navan to Wilkinstown Greenwway

The walk was ok for a walk, its 7.7k of nothing, it took us 2hours out and 2hours back, its ok for bikes and runners as their finished in half the time, but for people walking the route ,with or without dogs or kids, there's no signs to tell you how far you have come or what you have left, there's no bins or benches to stop at for bite to eat.you have to walk 7k before you see a bench. still a ...

This walk was a great find, good for all types of walkers ,great for dogs also, kids will love the adventure part of the walk including trying to find the lost village the waterfalls are beautiful, and the trees make you dizzy when you look up. the echo part of the walk is 10k which begins on a slow incline through the forest onto a road then into a side track gradually reaching the top, this r...
Inchavore valley to lough Dan, Wicklow, Ireland.
Переглядів 5328 місяців тому
Lough Dan is a gorgeous hidden lake tucked away in Wicklow Mountain National Park. With not many visitors compared to the nearby loughs, Dan Lake is a serene place to hike, go for a dip or just enjoy a picnic in the sun if you’re lucky. Although, there isn’t a lot of information about Lough Dan walk online, and the reason is that back in 2020, during the COVID pandemic, the owner of the estate ...

At times, this walk was very challenging , the first hill out of puente la Reina was tough, after that and through out the walk you will come across some short but steep climbs which will have you out of breath but should be no problem to you after getting this far, at this point fatigue will be setting in, take your breaks drink your water sit down and chat with your fellow camino"s then up an...
Day 4 Pamplona to Puente la Reina
Переглядів 2679 місяців тому
A plesent day at times, the walk from Pamplona to the outskirts brings you through a few urban areas until you get to jacob's way then the journey begins.we were very suprised when we got to the top of Alto Del Perdon, because we were expecting a steeper climb according to the map so not as steep as you think.
Zubiri to Pamploma Day 3
Переглядів 3419 місяців тому
This is a handy walk mainly down hill, leaving Zubiri at a height of 550 meters and arriving in pamploma at a height of 450 meters, a nice walk were you will enter the Basque country, were it is as green as Ireland, when it rains it can get a bit dangerous coming down the path ways. also remember to stop for something to eat and drink.
Roncevaux to Zubiri Day 2
Переглядів 5899 місяців тому
Roncevaux to Zubiri is a easy 22km walk going from a hight of 880 meters to 520 meters. The thing i would say about this walk is were boots or some form of ankle support because at times, actually the last quarter of the walk is very rocky and has razor sharp slates that could do you some damage, so watch out and go slow.bien Camino everybody.
St Jean Pied de port to Roncevaux Day 1
Переглядів 2,6 тис.10 місяців тому
St Jean Pied de port to Roncevaux took us just over 7 hours not including breaks, this is probably the hardest climb of the camino and a bit of training is needed for this, The trail tips along nicely with a few small hill nothing to worry about their, when you leave France and enter spain its a gradual incline from here ,mostly by road, this can get a bit monotonous so they then bring you off ...
Fraughan Glen Waterfall
Переглядів 20810 місяців тому
n my opinion this hike is dangerous for the inexperience hiker, because their is no trail to speak off, no signal, when the fog comes your visibility is down to zero, the ground is rough and rugged and your more likely to twist or even break you leg, the map that you download is liable to be inaccurate as in position and slow. i would avoid this route if possible.not for the inexperienced. If yo...
Fore Abbey

Fore Benedictine Abbey The Christian monastery at Fore was founded by St Feichin in 630AD. Prior to his death by yellow plague in the 660s, it is believed that there were as many as 300 monks and 2000 students in residence. Unfortunately, the only remaining pre-Norman building is St Feichin's Church, which was built in the 12th century, on the foundation of an earlier structure. Between 771 and...

Thanks for sharing the video.
Awesome!
I went up today the same route zero visibility and couldnt find the monument at the top is it far away from the waterfall?thanks.
@fm9187 when you get to the top of the waterfall, it's still a fair distance to the top it's a piece of stone can't miss it, then it's a further track to the edge , check out my video, might give you a better idea, sometimes the memory playes tricks.
@walkthewalkswithpaul8096 Thats where i went wrong i turned right as soon as i got to the top of the waterfall and walked for 30 mins in the fog it was treachorous, i got lost for 10 mins never again in the fog.I was never so happy to see the waterfall so i could get back down..
@fm9187 try the app alltrails. That's what we work off.
@@walkthewalkswithpaul8096 cheers it will save me getting lost👍
Did it back in August, it’s a hard slog up and back
Great video and hike👍
@stigfloberghagenphotography thanks man your videos are awesome 👌
the way i normally do this walk is start at the free overflow car park opposite Laragh GAA. walk under the arch at woollen mills gift shop. take next left at barrier and follow road uphill to the nest T junction with the logging road. take that right and follow the logging road to join the road at the top of the waterfall. Great views down on the round tower from above.
Lovely hike. Done it both ways. The deer can be aggressive as my young lad found out.
Class Paul!!!
@clientbounty thanks Dave might get u out next year 😁
a rope walk in the wood.. 👀 Interesting!
@JennyMong-gm1hw Actually, it was a great surprise, we just heard some music, christy moore, and this guy appeared definitely a first.
Omg those autumnal colours are just fantastic ! Well done all , keep them coming 😊
I did djouce woods not too long ago (but didn't know you can get to the waterfall) and went up the mountain from another carpark and seen hundreds of sheep Your video reminds me why I'm put off hiking, no marking etc and then good luck to using your phone for navigation (I know can't control weather)
@jpgk82 Well, I hear what your saying, no marking got me lost in powerscourt for 4 hours, and I had no sat nav. That's why I started doing these videos. Now I carry map and compass as back up.
Well done
Thanks Paul. Keep after it. I enjoy watching the views of the Irish landscape.
@brendandolan2555 Hopefully, next time, we can get better views from the top of toneglee,
Hi Paul. That was a mucky and wet one 😢. But well worth it for the views of Lough Ouler. 👍
@Andrew......... yeah, a beautiful lough and views are spectacular but somehow think this one is for the summer.
There you go mate, I’m your 500th subscriber, cracking mate, from a fellow UA-camr 😉👍
Great to see you back
@alanwright9112 Thanks Alan great to be back 👍
Great to see a video showing Cuilcagh via Benbeg, this area is one of my training areas, I've been around every part of this mountain in all conditions and I still love it. awesome vid 😎
@paulmccabe3538 thanks Paul was actually thinking of doing this one again. I love the rough and ready landscape might bring the drone next time 🤔
All walkers, dogs, and kids can enjoy a scenic 10k hike. Thank you for sharing😍✨
Hi Paul. I hiked the Mournes this morning and climbed Donard, but absolutely nothing to see from the top, it was so cloudy and foggy at the summit the visibility was zero.My hope was to do both Donard and Commedagh once I got to the wall but we had a weather warning for today and even at this early stage of the morning the fog was just so thick that I came straight down from Donard and got back to Donard Park before the real bad weather hit. The views on the way up and on the way down were spectacular. I started out at 6am and altogether I was hiking for about 5 and a half hours. Thank you again for this video.
A most excellent job!
@@RC_Farm thanks dude
Paul thank you so much for uploading this, I will be hiking the Mournes in August and I've watched this video a couple of times already, and no doubt I'll be watching and studying it even more in the coming weeks. Very well done to you all by the way
Thanks jason a struggle at the end but worth it, plenty of water and breaks, it dosent matter how long it takes ,as long as you get their, enjoy it and remember to sit down and enjoy the beauty of the mourns, to many people these days trying to beat times and dont see the beauty thats around them.let me know how you get on.👍
@@walkthewalkswithpaul8096 You're absolutely right Paul, it's always best to do it at a comfortable pace and take in all of the surroundings..... people do try to go fast sometimes but if you try to break records you'll only end up breaking bones instead. I'll be setting out at 7am just to give myself plenty of time
just back from doing Slieve Donard, tough walk and we made it all the way to the top, approx 5hr round trip with a 15min break due to heavy rain

Thank you
Trojans! Well done yet again.
Another tough day. Good on you for walking all day in the rain. Hope you’ve got a rest day coming soon. You’ve certainly earned it. Buen camino.
Rest day in pamplona thank god, in fact the following day was sunny which gave us that holiday feeling 👍
I was trying to recall where Dogarea was. Then I worked out what it really said.😂😂😂 I’m enjoying your camino.
I did the Cuilcagh Mountain today Paul all the way to the top. A great climb and the boardwalk definitely did help, but the weather just didn't cooperate.....it got so bad at times the Stairway to Heaven felt more like the Highway to Hell (666 metres remember 😈) but there were some clearer intervals. I'd say it took me 2 hours up and 1 hour 50 mins down.
Ah the weather dont you just hate it, when it turns on you. Done this walk twice and the weather was bad, their is a better hike if ur interested from the opposite side of the Stairway its a bit rugged but more interesting its one of my videos call stairway to heaven via Ben Beg👍
Hi agree with everything you said, especially don't look up. 😮 was so glad to see the little white church. Tough hike but so glad i done it.
Was talking to a couple of guys yesterday and they said their is now some steps near the top but it makes the walk a little bit harder.😬
That looked like a very tough day. Thanks for another great video & for sharing your journey with us.
Anne that was a tough day in fact that climb was higher than the highest mountain in ireland, but what an achievement anne, the 2 girls done great as they haven't climbed that height before. And a well deserved rest and a pint.😅😅
Fantastic. Love the aerial shots as and small villages 👏 Enjoy the Camino.
Thanks arnie the drone is new to me just trying it out, it always looks different from a height and gives a different aspect.✊️
Amazing guys ! Great work

All the best jason once you get the first day over with its all downhill, done the first five as far as estella will put up the videos later to give you an idea, the reat would be easy to moderate. Bien camino
