Hi Fish People.
Im a fishkeeper and breeder living in an apartment in the middle of a highly Urbanized City.
I have limited space but i try to do the most of it. I really enjoy fish keeping and it never
gets old for me to see new life come from my breeding projects. Whether its a live bearer
giving birth to being able to trigger South american Cichlids to breed.

Thank u sir
Thanks for this information i will run my heater 24/7 now.
sir ask lang yung periha ko di sya nag lilight yung red ano pwede gawin?
saglit lang i try nyo daw na i full ang knob sa control. kung mag light ibig sabihin na un sayo na sa setting nyo na reach na nya at hanggan bumaba yan hindi talaga umilaw (mag on) balik hangang bumaba ang temp. So meaning wala sya nag consume ng kuryente. kung mainit ang panahon bihira mo yan makita umilaw talaga lalo nag nasa 27 to 28 kalang na setting.
Very very beautiful fishes❤!!!
Thank you
but how to create the culture from scratch?
i have never tried to gather grindal worms but i heard it can be done. suppose to be that a potato you cut in halve and scoop out the insides of both halves. then you bury it in a moist but not flooded area. about 3 to 4 inches deep. and then return to that in a week to 10 days and your suppose to have grindal worms. But i have not tried it myself.

absolutely love your diy system...i am using yours and it's working like charm...you deserve more followers than any youtubers with diy co2 system videos!! Btw am using diy co2 diffuser made of ceramic plate and syringe.
Thank you so much for the Kind words. Lately youtube has been indeed tough. I only gives you a small window of opportunity for exposure (less than an hour) and unless you show a particular amount of vies within that period your shoved to the back.
this is the perfect video of diy co2!!
mine doesnt work. i can shake it and see bubbles then nothing
it takes anywhere from 12 to 36 hours before there is enough built up. Did you already turn the vavle on during the build up process? (it should be off until the bottles are tight) what kind of diffuser are you using? Most diffusers designed for high pressure co2 will not work with this setup.
i keep some in a completely freshwater setup 😁 alive for 6 months so far, i feed decapsulated bbs and powdered food
DYI C02 with sugar & yeast is very little pressure. You can't even use a standard C02 diffuser as one would use with pressurized C02 tank. Bubbles way to big because such low pressure. Citric acid & baking soda more pressure but again no where like a pressurized C02 tank. Hot glue gun works very well & cost $2.99 at dollar store. Sure you can buy pre built DYI caps but no need if don't successfully.
How did u cure it
Sadly i did not save this fish and he passed away shortly after the video. There are no clear studies on pop eye disease and that some suggest like dropsy its only an underlying symptom and not the disease itself. So it could be anything internally. in this case it might have been internal hemorage since there was a pair laying eggs and they were aggressive to this particular angel
Would small twinstar diffuser be also not good for it? Not enough pressure to go through it? It is expensive diffuser , just asking
I dont have experience with the twinstar diffuser so i cant really say. but most of the commercially availabe diffusers have a lot of "resistance" since they are designed for use with high pressure co2 systems. these will still work but up to a point as pressure in the DIY co2 drops the bubbles also stop. thats why sometimes as you use these diffusers you can still feel the bottles to be tight with content but its just the pressure can no longer push thru said diffusers. Thats why i like the DIY bamboo diffuser better as it lets me totally deplete the DIY Co2 contents.
Awesome! I do have a question. Assuming someone makes the piping to go across the whole footprint of the tank, how many inches of substrate per 10 gallons of filtration for this system? How does someone know if they have enough filtration?
I usually go with an inch of gravel above the slot. so in that case i had to use over 2 inches total of gravel. in the video i had the trays so i had to go over 3 inches in the back to hide the trays of aquasoil. But say you dont have that and you faced the slots upside down then you could probably get away with just 1 inch or 1inch and a half.
As to how do you know if you have enough filtration. Well you need test the water to confirm that you have your tank cycled and monitor the amount of nitrates that rise in the course of a week. as long as its consistent and no ammonia and nitrite is present then your have enough filtration. But remember as you add livestock or make changes this will change so constant monitoring is needed as you do so.
@@guadaguppy4798 is there such a thing as too much substrate with this filter? Would 5 inches be a negative or not really worth going towards? I guess I'm concerned about having enough BB surface area compared to a sponge on a tank larger than 20 gallons. I really like the lava rock idea because it's porous, but not small enough to get shuffled with other substrate with a gravel vac like o-rings could.
@@eveningclicks7767 personally i have not tried any thicker with any of my UGF filters. But i do know that another twist to this is to make an anoxic filter setup. using a plenum. Dr. Novak i believe is the proponent and advocate user of this teaching people about anoxic setups. they are very thick substrates. I just do not have acces to laterite that whats hindering me from trying it out.

Bro how do you turn off the co2 at night?
Turn off? There is no turning off a chemical process when it's started. You need to let the co2 escape in the room at night.
I always mention in my videos that you need to know your water with this system. Because Co2 is carbonic acid and it will cause your PH to drop. In the Philippines we have exceptionaly high ph water. 8.4 to 8.6 with this system running 24/7 it will only drop the ph to 7.6 to 7.4 I have never seen that swing down any lower than that. but like i said you need to know your water. This system works well with high Ph and High Kh(buffering) But if you really want to turn the system off the best thing to do is run an airpump with an air stone on a timer. so the pump turns on as the lights turn off and i suggest the pump turn off 2 hours before the light period so that when the lights go on there is already co2 in the water.
@@Christian_Johansson i mean the DIY co2 tank
@@guadaguppy4798 thanks
@@johnlloydjuntilla9069 You cant turn off the co2 in the tank like i explained if you let it run during no light period the PH might drop to much specially if you already have low PH to prevent that from happening run and air stone 2 hours before the light turns to this will expell the co2 to control the PH drop. but if your PH is like mine 8 to 8.4 and have High Kh bufferingthen this will not be a problem.

sir how about using 300 watts in a 20 gallon tank, will the cost tripled too?
sir the detailed answer to this question is in the video. I explained in throughly by showing the watt meter consume power. No the 300 watt will not triple the consumption. In fact it can manage the temps better it heats up faster so it the thermostat shuts off sooner also. so in fact, less electricity is consumed. conversely if you use a smaller 50 watt it has to stay on for further longer periods of time and may result in even higher electricity cost. Remember as i show in the video. the heater does not stay on 100% of the time it is plugged in. it will vary from setup to setup but in general it stays on only less than 20% per hour. so no it will not run up your electricity bill.
but some days we can i tried
Cheers from my fish room channel in Chicago, where I'm delighted to be a subscriber :) You and I are on the same pace as far as raising these worms! Every time I open a culture it's like a mini unboxing video!
hellow stefan. weather has been warm here in my country and it seems to be affecting the cultures i have them nowntucked in an area that stays cooler that is if you consider 27 ++ cool hehehe. yes the heat is really beating down on the Philippines
I had thought - I will put dark sterbai on light sand to make them stand out! But this proves that it not a good plan.
If you can acquire fine black sand or any darker color fine sandthat would be the way to go. BTW i know Black Diamond Blasting media (used for sand blasting on industrial purposes) is available i dont think thats a good substrate as it is designed to be used as an industrial abrasive.
Wow they look so much prettier on the black sand! This video was really helpful!
Yes they truly had more stunning colors on black substrate. But i had to compromise as these guys love the finer substrate. They want to burrow there snouts in there to look for food. I could not get my hands on fine black sand at the time but actually now theres some available. Hmmmmm i might redo this again with the fine black sand to so that there colors lush up again.
hello from my fish room channel in Chicago! I really like the double layer of floss. Thank you for the tips!
hello Stefan. yup da 2 layers sure beat the mess. im experimenting with coco peat. the worms seem to multiply faster but it sure is a mess

Thanks for the feedback sir. and thanks for the compliments as well
@@guadaguppy4798 more videos of your balloon mollies please, they are so amazing, ang how do you take care of them...thanks
Okay, that looks like something I might want to try! 😂 Thank you for explaining it so well!
Definitely try it. Another thing i notice that i did not include in the video. Is that if you use tank water on the setup you end up with maggots. at first i was wondering how that happened any way they did not pose a threat to the succes of the culture and would eventually go away as the Grindal population ramps up. But the food you add will be consumed faster if they are present, So you need to constantly add food.
I agree. I have several walstad style Ecospheres which have no flow or water changes, however in walstad tanks i run a filter during the night simply for flow
Ive always thought that it is kinda weird to think of a natural environment without flow. unless its a stagnant environment. But in water systems there is almost always flow. But i guess the idea of a filterless system seem to appeal to alot of people.
@@guadaguppy4798 yes it appeals because it changes so much. Even the creatures in them behave differently. I think the idea is that if there is animal life in a body of water, there is an element of flow due to circulation caused by animal movement. Much the same as in a still pond 🙂
@@thelittlethingsinlife239 Indeed sir. Kinda like a ressurection Setup i guess.
@@guadaguppy4798 Yes very much so.. I think the plants are the most important thing along with a substrate which is initially nutrient rich until the environment starts to produce its own nutrients through animal waste and dead plant matter breaking down.

Murag there is a reason why dili sila ma dali og breed in captivity. kay mo rely man sa coming and going sa tide. So salinity changes sya. during rainy season more fresh water is flowing out to see so lesser ang salinity and this triggers them to breed. and as i understand the fry move out to see for a period of time and as to how long nobody knows and they return to brakish condition. So i think dili madali.
Also although small sila they really need a bigger tank para mas stable ang water condition. right now na maintain lang sya at 4ppt or 4000 ppm salinity which they are doing great. Di pud sila mo eat og prepare or dried food. I give them BBS.

So what ratio's do you use that will last 6 weeks? Can you please list your recipe?
use 500 to 700 ml water. 250 grams sugar. any kind is ok but brown is cheaper. i cannot tell you the exact amount of gelatine to use as each brand has different ways of solidifying. instead figure out the amount that will end up with a very soft jiggly consistency. If its hard gelo the yeast cant eat through it. then for the starter mix a cup of water and 4 teaspoons of sugar. and yeast around 1/4 teaspoon. even less. more yeast will start the reaction faster. But will also make it last shorter. so mine typically starts to build up at around 8 to 10 hours. also i never mentioned it before but you can check if there is a reaction by shaking the mixture bottle. and looking at the wash bottle it each time you shake bubbles should exit the mixture tube. 6 weeks is actually very conservative i have some now running way more than that.
Im also releasing this week a 4 part short on the DIY co2 mixture. I believe that this setup with my DIY co2 diffuser is the perfect combination. as you can really milk the mixture until its just dead flat.
I do not like when my jello jiggles
What's price of this

If an established plant is starting to turn brown, something is likely off in its environment, as Java ferns are very resistant to disease. Adjusting factors such as lighting, nutrient levels, or planting method, and removing any overgrowth of blue-green algae, should allow your plant to recover completely.
the 5 major reasons that can turn the leaves of your java fern into black- If they are having difficulty to adjust in the new condition If the tank light is too high intensity If they have been placed on the wrong side of the tank If the tank nutrients aren’t enough for them If they are invaded by the growth of blue-green algaes
