Wonderful work, so nice to see one of yours on SuperfastMatt's off-road Viper.
I am still loving my wooden knob, especially in the summer, no more hot sensations off of the aluminium part, that was originally in my car. Nice work, thanks! 👍💪✌
Pretty bad ass.
This is awesome. Glad Matt sent us your way to see it!
That was superfast!
Haha but is it good enough 😅
@@builtbybasil8515 it is indeed! Lol
;)
Just ordered mine for my R53 and can't wait
Fantastic 👍👌
I know how to remove the old gear lever, but how does one remove the boot? It looks like it is held on by 4 plastic screws or some other kind of fixing. Obviously I don’t want to break anything. Cheers Marcus
Hi Marcus, Could you take a photo of the screw you are refering to and email it to me at simon@builtbybasil.com then I can advise from there. Cheers, Simon
Nice one, how did you make them so shiny? Clear coat? Epoxy? Oil?
I'd like to order one of these for my 69 Beetle, are they still being made?
Sure are man you can find them on my website builtbybasil.com or you can email me what you are looking for
Love this, how do I order.
Thanks for still making these! Gonna pick one up soon!
wow! great video and great machines.
Deserves far mor than 400subs with the editing. No music n creativity
Hey Simon , nice work.would you be interested in doing one for a tiptronic 996 C4S , it’s savanagh interior and I’ll do a nice customer fit video for ya as well.
Simon - you're just a serial glue-sniffer with an excuse to practice your passion - bon continuation : genius ! :-)
You selling these ???
More videos 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Outstanding video and product!!
Can you do other styles - thinking about the longer handle for a column shift manual.
Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing!
Car Throttle :D
Niceeeeee! Love it!
Can you try do some with CNC machining be awesome to see some of automatic gear knob handle
Whats that shaping bit you had on the lathe? I've been trying to find those for making spheres.
The part with a big curved edge is a file that has been going into a turning tool
Good
4:48 scared the shit outta me. LOL
I love repurposing old used things. This is great! I bet they would make a beautiful bowl, or vase as well. 🥰👍
Do you sell those ?
Sure do man. Builtbybasil.com
Nice.☺️That clamping jig? Do you have drawing or video of making it?
No video but it is 4 lengths of 16mm box section and 3 pieces of 10x20mm solid. Drill and thread holes through in one of the pieces of solid drill holes in another to keep the end of the threaded bar. The rest of it it weld the lower part together with holes to accept the bolts
the one with the metal is fuckin sick
cool vid
BASIL, Nice Job!
Where can I get that metal rack that you used to keep the pieces of the board straight when clamping??
Vincent Cipri I made it out of 20x20 box section and 20x10 solid steel
Thank you!!
Oh wow!
What is the name of the metal piece you inserted in the bottom?
It is a aluminium insert I have machined for me.
Really incredible job dude
Excellent craftsmanship !
Wow! What an awesome finished product. That final show is unreal!
Absolutely Love it. Really custom made.
Ever thought of selling some I would love to have one for my honda
Justin Crossland I do sell the haha, link to my etsy is in the description
where did you get the metal piece?
Errol Elli I made it on a metal lathe.
Great work, I like these color.
What is the black Material between the wood and the metal? This shift knobs look very nice. Good job!
Nice! I wanted a white knob so made one out of a Nissan wheelnut (Lug Nut?) a cupboard door knob and construction adhesive. worked great! When I saw the one in the Diresta video I thought it was made out of "Detroit Agate", didn't think to use plywood for something like this, will have to give it a go.
honest have never seen a video with over 1000 views have 0 dislikes this is amazing
That looks amazing..love it
I like my walk on part at the end, but why do I have to clean up!
what kind of glue are you using? . nothing ive tried holds up
Tyler Drayer polyurethane based wood glue the brand I use is soudal. works a treat
awesome I will look it up
Really nice gear knobs! Just one thought though - wouldn't it be easier to drill the final hole and cut the threads before chucking it up in the lathe and cutting the final shape?
Andrew (DadofTriplets) yes that would be easier but then I can't give people the choice of any gear knob because there are many different types of threads
fair enough - I didn't realise there were many different thread types for different manufacturers (not a driver so I wouldn't know)
