Best documentary I have ever seen. You can feel the love between Yachiyo and Michiko as well as the love, admiration and respect they have for Kyomai and the desire they have to pass it on to the next generation. It is their calling and their destiny.

Art dance🌹

This is my all time favorite documentary. It touches the depths of your heart. You can feel the passing of the baton, and the love of a grandmother for her granddaughter, and a granddaughter for her grandmother. You can feel the extraordinary bond they share. You can almost see the precious legacy being passed from generation to generation. You can almost see Michiko squaring her shoulders and accepting the mantle of leadership. You can almost see Michiko slowly come to terms with the painful realization that her beloved grandmother wasn't going to live forever, and can feel her determination to hold onto every precious second she has left with her. And you can feel Yachio IV's reluctance to leave this world without performing one last beloved dance.

７：３８あたりからお稽古つけてる曲、姫三社だ～。この前踊ったんで分かった。舞は流派が違うから違うけど。 I recognize the dance they are practicing around 7:38! It's Himesanja. I just danced it, though the choreography was different because I learn from a different school.

京舞井上流井上八千代に成るには虫の音舞を踊れ無かったら家元に成れません。五世は孫に成るので、若くても教えな御身足が、藤生でも舞の時は杖も無く背筋を伸ばしておいどおとし舞う四世家元は虫の音を若い孫に早くから教えて舞え無かった家元井上八千代に成れませんが、覚えて現家元井上流井上八千代に成ってます。若くて人間国宝成り娘も師範に次の家元は決まっていますので、都をどりは永遠に成ると思います。

This was somehow a very touching documentary... Beautiful and fascinating.

Oh how happy I am to find this documentary, I love kyomai and the geisha culture so much I can never get enough of it. It's truly fascinating... I give my greatest respects to Inoue Yachiyo...

She was 100 years old? Absolutely amazing! So this docu is from about the early 2000's? Looks like the 80's for some reason.

i like that yachiyo IV's real name is Aiko which is the name of the grand daughter of the empress of Japan while Yachiyo V's real name is Michiko which is the name of the empress of Japan, both grand mothers and grand daughters have the opposite names

LOVE!!!!! This video I also remembered the miyako odori when I was in Kyoto as an x-change student inouye-San is a truly great artist. And deserved the title of national living treasure
