Ephesians 4:22-24 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitudes of your minds; and to put on righteousness and holiness. When the Bible tells us to take something off; -That means we don’t slip it into a drawer because we might want to wear that occasionally; -It doesn’t mean we box it up as a memory to look back on It means we are DONE WITH IT! But girls, if we are living in the fullness of Christ as mature believers, we get a brand new wardrobe, from a DIVINE DESIGNER that lasts for eternity. 😊 We’re going to look good in that color. Then in vs 25-32 Paul helps us get started. Take a peek at that chart. Any of those we need to “put off” (unwholesome talk, bitterness)? Jesus doesn’t leave us naked, He gives us His righteousness to “put on” & Paul lays out some practical ways to showcase that through the power of the Holy Spirit. Put Off Put On Falsehood Speak truthfully In anger do not sin, do not let the devil get a foothold Don’t steal Work Do something useful with your own hands, to share with those in need Unwholesome talk coming out of your mouths The talk coming out of mouth should be helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may be a benefit of those that listen Do not grieve the Holy Spirit Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger brawling and slander, every form of malice Be king and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you The more we mature in our spiritual walk with Jesus, the more we recognize how much room we still have to grow. The mature Christian embraces this growth with the hope that we will love & trust Jesus more tomorrow than we did today. The Christian that is mature stays on Mission with the Message, ministering to other believers to help them mature in Christ to deliver the message that by God’s grace through faith in Jesus we are saved. Truth: A mature Christian in Jesus, matures others for Jesus. Believers, when we 1. Hear THE Word 2. When we understand THE Word 3. We are to go tell THE Word. Whether that be someone that needs to know the forgiveness, redemption & love of Jesus. Or Another believer, that needs us to come along side of them reminding them who they are in Christ, encouraging, teaching & supporting them. If we, as believers, were to write a mission statement for our lives; Would it look anything like the Mission Statement Jesus wrote for us? How we live our lives reflects the mission statement we believe in. One of the stories they told us on the Alcatraz tour was that the prison went silent on New Year’s Eve. The windows were open bars and on New Year’s Eve they could hear music, the laughter of women’s voices and the party in general that happened on the docks just across the bay. The New Year party gave hope of a new life for them when they got out of prison. Does the way we live our life as a Christian, as a church, give hope to those in the prison of sin? If you are not on Mission with the Message, what is holding you back? May it not be a well crafted lie Satan has given us in the form of an Excuse.
