Minecraft Vanilla Survival - Episode 03 - Deserted Success!
I love the old skool yootoob asthetic... But I can't finish 25 minutes of talking head.
I started on DOS 5.0 ... I once ran CorelLinux and OS/2 Warp. Quit Windblows at 98. Now I hate Macs too. Four+ years on Linux, Mint>major hopping>Arcolinux running i3. No turning back. Welcome to GNU/Linux.
Annoying
Hearing when I was a tween and got windows 8, is just crazy. I remember awaiting win 3.11 ive read about in a magazine. Back when you bought a magazine. Spent a week coding on a zx81 to get Pong and 3 days of syntax errors
Updates to an unsupported OS like Windows 7 are not the problem. The problem is with drivers. Trying to get drivers for Windows 7, for instance, is a complete nightmare.
Linux has a backdoor no thanks
If any want to install W11 on old hardware, burn the image with Rufus, and end of hardware limitations.
Another option: get a USB Drive and load a live Linux distro on that. Boot to it and play. When you are done playing shutdown and remove the USB and go back to your existing Windows
Linux for any online interactions. Win10 for my offline gaming needs. MS can kiss my grits!
Bless you. I switched to Mint 11 years ago and wont change since.
If you prefer one video editing software but it doesn't have a .mp4 save option, then you could use it and save it in some other format. Then when you've finished, load the saved video in to the program you don't like and saved it as a .mp4.
With the setup for what ever they replace Win 10 with when it goes out of service and the hijack operation they run on users I plan to buy or build a Linux PC.
Fantastic commentary on the Windows versus Linux question. You didn't address the work around that people can do to put Windows 11 on a Windows 10 system that is also an option. Let us know if you have any thoughts on that.
It was Windows 98 upgraded from Windows 95
Answer: You're a reasonable person. Jokes aside I'll watch the remainder of this video during my bike ride. 🚲 🐢
Windows 11 did it for me. I've been writing windows software since windows 1.0 and im now done. done done. Backed up my drive and hit that "if you do this it will erase all your data" button on the Mint install and I have zero regrets. Microsoft forgot about the customer.
why you are using a 10 year old camera
It might be older than 10 years, I'm not actually sure. Either way, I do it because I like how it looks :D
I should have made a video 25 years ago entitled, "Why I switched from Windows 98 to Linux". Welcome to Team Tux, where you can upgrade the operating system whenever YOU like, and it doesn't spy on you.
I have intalled windows 11 on both my old laptops that do not meet the requirements set by microsft . It was quite easy and so far they work fine ,but time will tell if was a good idea . I have used mint and it works fine for most of what I do but there are 2 windows programs that I use that I could not get to run with wine so I whent back to windows . Maybe I just need to try harder to get them to run .
Great episode please keep the great content, i love your pc videos keep it up!!!
Would you consider doing a video on how you got your Mint to look like Windows 7?
I went to Mint as well. I'm running a 7th gen i5 and as someone who understands cybersecurity, I do not trust EOL computers to be on the internet. Welcome to Linux, Casey!
I recently did as you did and intalled Linux Mint on to my laptop, I was pleased with it and did my preferences and up dated stuff. So I decided to build a PC from parts I had and I added a 1tb SSD and installed Linus Mint on that too, but then I had a problem, no internet, I had a wifi dongle insterted but no joy, then searching online lots more had the same issue. I go on UA-cam only to find lots of videos of how to resolve it but none worked, I found an old wifi dongle and for some reason that worked so I got Internet and was able to upgrade etc. Then again for some reason my PC didn't recognise the SSD, I edited the bios only to make things worse, after spending nearly all day I gave up, so now I'm looking for a different distro rather than Mint, shame really coz I did like it.
I'd LOVE to go back to the sheer speed and usability of XP and Win7. I don't give a shit about security updates. I've got more chance of winning the lottery than getting haxxed. But the ultimate showstopper with those previous versions is the lack of support for newer hardware, software, drivers, codecs, etc. You'll quickly hit a brick wall. The GUI for Win10/Win11 is horrible and it's a chore to use. There's no enjoyment in using today's Windows, it's just something you put up with.
I just switched permanently.
Linux Mint is great. If you absolutely must use Windows, use Windows 10 IoT LTSC. No BS, and supported until 2032 or something.
Amazing channel!! Did you try KVM to make a Windows virtual machine for your specific devices?
Mint is the best distro in recent times. Even better than Ubuntu which has telemetry and a ton of bloatware.
I have recently done a, board up, upgrade into my old case (i love my old corsair case and i will use it until nothing fits in it). As a builder from the Jurassic age of PC's, there is still no better feeling than picking parts, building with your own hands and then the finale of the, will it post, power button press. There is ALWAYS an amount of gravitas reserved for that first power on and that feeling never goes away.
I will jump to Linux the day Gimp and inkscape can use CMYK colors. I need it to work. Until them, I will stick with win10 and adobe
I want to break out of the microsoft prison and live in the free world of Linux. Too much talk about 11 spying on people.
Nice 🐧
think of how bad things will get by 2030
I use strawberry to manage my music library. It can do tag editing probably bigger application than you need
I have been using Linux Mint Cinnamon, since the end of support for Windows 7
I'm also considering a switch too linux. starting with having it on a seperate drive until it get it fully set up. I do not approve of the forced AI systems Microsoft is forcing on my pc
welcome to linux :3
You all who switching to Linux, what work do you do on the PC/laptops? No one telling what work they do. All just compare Windows with Linux, but I don't work with windows, I work with the programs I put in Windows... so what programs do people with Linux have?
What kind of app do you have in mind?
@@RenceAsANoob I use Autocad and other programs for control CNC machines
I love this vid, and yes, I am *slightly* older than you, I grew up on UNIX at bell labs, and like your opinion on Windoz, I ran everything from DOS to win3 to 95/98/2000 and they all were pigs. OK XP ran nice, Now running some of my machines on Ubuntu, some on Mint, but yes, I prefer the MATE desktop. Sleek small and frugal, Hey isn't that how the computer is supposed to be?
I switched from Linux Mint to Dos. 😊
why do all this linux channels do the weird hello hand thing at the start
I switched to Linux Mint earlier today, just prior to your video, and regarding art, I can confirm that Windows-based software can be run on Linux mostly ok through Wine / Bottles. I managed to get Cinema 4D running (3D software), Paint Tool SAI (Drawing software), and Krita (Drawing software), the last of witch came up in the Linux version of the app store, though all software there is free. Some issues did arise, like Cinema 4D's viewport appearing as 16bit-ish, due to missing OpenGL, and Paint Tool SAI not registering pen pressure on the tablet due to missing (and linux-incompatible Wacom driver) , but it seems there are ways around those problems. Tomorrow i'll be looking into getting OpenGL, and the pen pressure thing was fixed through tweaking settings in Bottles. Despite not knowing a thing about Linux's command system, I'm glad I could get the essential software I need running as a backup option, and rest assured that Linux won't forcibly mess it up for me through random updates. I hate how Win11 looks and how Microsoft is forcing AI and their invasive data leaching nonsense down everyone's throats.
Nice video, I watched it in full and didn't even skip a second. Very interesting topic why some people transition. Even if I understand the reasoning behind the transition I also understand people who fear the jump. I on the other hand have no problem navigating all kinds of operating systems, but would enjoy if more people went together and left MS and Apple etc in a more significant move. Anyways, you could run a script to remove that config file when you shut your machine off or reboot it, so you do not need to think about it, although I have no idea why you have that issue with that particular software. Keep up the good work! Best regards
Are you a chick or dude?
I did the same thing two years ago and it's been the best thing I've ever done computing. I use Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop.
I kinda couldn't get my games and programs to run right cause my laptop uses amd graphics , my game creating software did not work and my games did not work, the few that did had bad performance issues laggy as hell which on windows was running smooth
I'm still using Windows 7 in my laptop w.o. any issues. After 7 most of updates brought useless features and worse looking windows. Give me back user first age... everything is going to crap!
Dude do you know anything about creating apps? Super random i know but ive seen some of ur other videos and wanted to ask??? 😊
I don't know anything about creating apps.
Linux Mint seems to be the go to for most people that arent power users. I really like Linux Mint myself.
Windows is Malware.
