I lost my CD of The Unfairground. Nevernid, I didn't like it much, to be honest.
He was such a great talent
Kevin never sold out , and i respect him for that . He had the looks , voice and song writing skills, that could have made him more famous and rich. Very talented. ❤
The Kevin Ayers catalog was a big part of my musical upbringing from Joy of the Toy onward. An eclectic mix of eccentric English songs almost like a musical trip through alice in wonderland with a ever so strange banana obsession!!!! I got to see him live in 1975 at the Astoria in London with Andy Summers & Zoot Money just before the punk thing kicked off & just about when Summers met Stingo & Copeland to do their pretend punk band. As a musician myself I recorded a cover version of May I for my brothers funeral as he was a big fan. Ayers songwriting was always very amusing and he even got quite poppy in his later material. He never quite broke out commercially partly, I think because he was so laid back himself. He was always surrounded by a group of very talented musicians from Oldfield, Summers, Coxhill, Bedford, Wyatt etc. Whatevershebringswesing and Confessions of Dr Dream albums are stamped in my head from a young age. He was a one off with music full of vision and humour but possibly fuelled by the occasional substance, mainly red wine. A bit mad but a memorable talent. Too old to die young!
A true gem of a recording : crystal-clear sound, perfect balance between vocals and instruments, original performance, Kevin and Marvin in top shape. Thanks a million for uploading.👍👍👍
The Perfect music for in between Dead shows
you probably mean the Grateful dead
Amen
Canterbury// Deadheads unite
@@autistichead8137 You ever read Books written by Gurdjeff ?
@@gratefulkm no I haven’t, but I did have Kevin live on my radio show in the 90s
Superb ....a different Kevin song and great guitar from Marvin . I think we should get another album of lost treasures of Kevin out.....there`s a few that have escaped mainstream issue, (Get in touch M and I`ll tell you my ideas)
⚡️💙⚡️
Awesome!
Thank you for uploading these! Always nice to hear a Kevin show I hadn't heard before.
Fucking A. Love this man's work. 😇
MS: Wonderful interview, the depth of Kevin's voice was like an instrument. Please, KA speaks of recording 10 songs in 4 days, with you, Falling Up only had 8 songs. Could you tell us the date of this interview, which Lp is KA talking about and did you collaborate as KA said, on any more tunes? Thank you for unearthing part of your experience with Kevin🥰
The interview is part of the promo tour for my album that Kevin produced, it took place in April 1985. We had to drop 4 songs cause of lack of time, and were promissed a second go. But as soon as Kevin left I was sacked, cause they couldn't take it, they actually never listened to the music. One of the songs later landed on Falling up, another rolling stone. After Ollie died I toured with Kevin and recorded the demos for the Unfairground, but that's all erased by his manager, who wanted an idyllic picture for his cannon. It's all very secret, I don't know if I'm allowed to talk about this, I'm sorry
@@cadillaca Wonder now if the circumstances have changed, being 10 years down the road, and 38 years since Kevin produced your EP?
@@CapUfomojo sorry late reply - times have changed and are re-arranging, but most wonderful songs remain the same, and their grip too. The circumstances have never been so favorite to row and bow, we will be on stage this summer, definitely more daring than ever before, another time!
exactly how it was back then, I emigrated nearly twenty years ago, the pub on a Sunday...pub only open for two hours at lunch time open 12 o'clock last orders 2pm ten mins drink up time.. evening 7pm to 10/30 again 10mins drink up time. ...in the back for a late one... Utopia? Dystopian? either or.
Was that the total show ?
almost, supersalesman was incomplete
Astoria, I saw the Beatles here and much later Santana
He did an awful lot of touring for someone who lived a "reclusive life" according to every obituary that came out in the wake of his death.
that was all made up by his manager, infact he had been working his ass off between '94 and 2004
@@cadillaca I have two officially released live albums recorded during the time he was "a recluse" :)
Probably Turn the lights down ('95) and Live in California (2000)
@@cadillaca 1993 in fact
He was and still is wonderful
Thank Dear All Mighty God
THanks Marvin ...That`s with Ollie too isn`t it ?
I'm sorry to say but in '97 Ollie was already 5 years gone, it's unfortunately me on guitar. But it's impossible to replace Ollie, I try to honour him as much as I can and hope he won't get forgotten!
@@cadillaca Sorry Marvin Of course ! But that shows you what a good job on guitar you did here...................I wrote a little note to Galen suggesting an album of lost treasures by Kevin that never appeared on an album before ...but she didn`t reply . Did you ever play " A shed /shared experience" with Kevin ?? Do you have a better connection with her to get an issue like that going ? Best wishes MARTIN
Wow, he sounds just like Nick Drake - if Nick Drake spoke openly.
Similarly rich timbres and quietly reflective ways of thinking and speaking. Treasures.one had to seek out because neither was inclined toward self-promotion.
I'm so happy that I saw him once live on the stage - wonderful musician and wonderful music!
I'd bet Dylan had never even heard of Ayers.
1985 was a dire time for music and his comment about techno pop indicates he felt so too.
He sounded lonely and alone
❤
Excellent, insightful. Great to hear.
I love this song
Such an excellent song. Glad to see a live performance!
Thanks. So good to hear Kevin. Sad that I never met him.
No wonder I've never heard his music before. Similar to tom Waits
Kevin ,50 years old and still good.
Praise the lord.
